hi guys
I brought my facelift s3 about 2 months ago since then not even a 1 day joy owning it!!
car with revo stage 2 ,hpa competition controller, etc etc
already spend 3k try to solve the problems and now got worse!!
when I got the car the suspensions seems a bit floppy ! so, I got new set of bilsteins b8 with kw spring + 034 top mounts+ adjs drop link. Tyrol deadest kit . since then the car developed creaking sound on uneven road at low speed ,took the car to a vgsuk they suggest is lower arm bushing, so got some powerflex bushes lower front +back bushes fitted since last Thursday and its sound even worst then before!!it feel like i'm driving on a old mattress !!creaking badly on the left front!!
the worst thing carry on I went to do some shopping with wife today try to drive into a parking lot full lock to left turn I got like a rubbing/grinding noise !!!gods help

i'm sorry guys you might be a diehard audi fans , but i'm very disappointed with my audi!!
this is my 1st germen car before I have itr dc5 with Kpro ,evo tommi mak with 380bhp,sx 180,sx200,they all lovely drivers car (my opinion)
my thought or experience with the s3 is good quality cabins ,good looking ,but is straight line car not a driver car to me,too heavy for a small hatch back, under steer badly at limit and not agile, numb feedback of steering..i have hpa haldex competition comtroller fitted it settle the car a little at limit ,
this is only my personal opinion please don't shot me!!!

sorry to hear that! are you going to sell competition controller?

I'm sorry to hear it,but a lot of what you say is correct.

The stock suspension is floppy, and there is a complete lack of steering feel, thanks to the amount of assistance.

Correcting all of the understeer is both difficult and expensive, and I would estimate that my suspension efforts have cost a good few thousand pounds so far,but they have dialled out most of the problems you're having.

The only mistake or overspend you've made is with the Haldex controller, which really should be the last modification, after everything else has been done,as it makes a difference to traction, but not much else.

Mine has had:
kW v3 suspension and H&R ARBs followed by
Clubsport gear and adjustable topmounts:
Superpro bushes all round:
Supaloy TCA and Anti-lift kit
VWR engine mounts
and the Haldex controller.

At the end of the day though, you still have a 1500kg car, which is pretty heavy for it's class, and a lot for any suspension to control, and in any analysis, that's a lot of money to overcome a problem with understeer and body roll.

S3alex thanks for reply and similar comment to the s3.
I'm going to cut the lost and search for a real drivers car with out spending kkkk on
Suspension setup!
Now I just want to sorted creaking noise out and sell on!?hopefully I can sorted out it without

I hear what you're saying about the S3 not being a drivers car, i've said the same thing after coming from cars such as a Z4M, Evo and a Kpro'd CTR. In saying that the S3 has qualities those other cars don't have and visa versa. In my opinion the S3 is a good all rounder it's quick has a great interior, Quattro which is good for winter and wet driving and it's reliable.

All depends what you want from a car really. I personally think an Evo would make a good second or weekend car, i chopped mine because i was only using it for commuting which didn't make sense in terms of fuel cost, ride quality, interior quality and servicing costs etc.

No point in saying anything but the truth!

It needs a lot of work to make it really fast, and to handle well, but in fairness, this was not Audi's intention.

thanks gil for reply
I do agreed about the fuel costs on evo's.
if one garage say spend another 1k my car will run perfect or normal !!I think I will keep the car for little while!!!
but unfortunately after 3k spending on it problems got worst ..i'm really upset..
WHY this A3 suspension are so difficult and hard to diagnose the problems!!!!!

I wouldn't let the suspension put you off the car, sure it can be sorted.

It's a reflection of what the cars market is seen as,and its weight plus the wobbly stock suspension and weight bias.

The Evo has a totally different target market.

Id put the std top mounts back on, and fit HR roll bars, then maybe take off your adjustable drop links, see if the creaking stops. how low is the car.

Kw spring about 25mm around.thanks

That shouldn't be enough to make the car creak etc...mine is around 25mm or a bit more, and hasn't ever done that.

the best thing to do is take bits off one at a time, until the creaking stops. was all the poly bushes greased up properly, was the top mounts fitted right are they tight. i know some of these might seem daft questions but its the best way to fault find.
have you tried rocking/ bouncing the car and have a look where the noise roughly is.

Thanks for advice. The garage will come to take the car back to check again.
He mention the polybush could cause creaks. But not sure yet about the fulllock left turn noise!!
Hopefully they can sort it out! ?I might ask them to put oem bush and top mount.drop link to the car!
But really not sure worth risk to spending hundreds. IF not sorted after!!

Regrets to change bilstein b8 since changed problem keep on coming....
I think because the new strut is harder then oem one, it transfer impact energy
To weak area of the suspension thats why it cause creaking!!
now most of then are new bushing Still creaks! !?

i think you're right.
but as somebody did mention, did the garage grease the bushings properly because they are harder and when tightened might produce some noise ?

I had the exact same problem with mine for a few weeks, in the end It turned out to be a faulty driveshaft. I had a really bad creeking noise and on full lock knocking/rubbing really bad. Could be worth asking a local garage if they can have a quick check of your driveshaft!

Hope this helps

Is it expensive for driveshaft replace?

Not too expensive no. You can either purchase a brand new aftermarket driveshaft with cv joint for around £50 then take it too a garage to get fitted, its only a 30/45minute job so say roughly £20/£30 labour so £80 all in. Or purchase a genuine Audi driveshaft for around £130 then labour for fitting so say £160 all in.

Thats not too bad if this is the case.car at garage now will update once have it back!thanks

best of luck getting complete drive shaft for £130, I got quoted £120 inc vat for an outer cv joint :(

I have the same noise, also seem to come from the left front wheel. It started after fitting Bilstein B16 coilovers. Couldn't find yet the reason for this.
I've recently changed both cv joints, both bearings on the front, all 4 bushes on the lower arms (replaced the big ones with the S3 bushes), new OE drop links, new H&R sway bars. Still have the noise.

Its probably not them, but creaking can sometimes be caused by loose subframe bolts so check them when you can :)

whats the milage of this car in question.
