New Audi A3: Glacier White or Daytona Grey?

It's interesting to see age playing such a big part in colour choice. I'm 28 and my previous A3 was metallic dark grey, this time went for Glacier White as I felt it worked better on the car. Next time I might go for black, with the black grill / styling pack as I think that's quite a distinctive look too.

With regards cleaning, my friend's phantom black car is actually harder to keep clean than my GW, as it shows every single bit of road dust and takes forever to clean properly in order to avoid swirling the clearcoat. My GW on the other hand doesn't show any dust, but does show mud etc, but at this time of year that's not such a problem. I was unsure about GW when I ordered, until i saw it and then i knew it was the right choice for me :)

I don't think you can go far wrong with either colour. I have Daytona Grey and thought about glacier.
I think in white it really shows the vents and lines well on the S-Line, join that with tinted windows and glass roof and it will look badass!
Daytona though I think looks a little more conservative but classy. The colour is a lot more than just grey, it reflects slightly different colours and shades in different angles so shows the angular lines really well. It is also a really deep rich colour, I am so happy with my choice

Thank you for the views. The Daytona Grey really looks nice in the post above...

Ahh I've been pondering over the colour since the start of last week and it literally is a tie between the both. This is actually my second car ever, coming from a VW Polo 1.4 TDI MK IV which was a midnight blue. This decision has even actually got me depressed I feel to do nothing!

I just turned 24 last month, truth is the first color I chose when picking the car was the Glacier White, it was only when I started to see the Daytona Grey that it made my decision difficult.

My intuitive gut tells me to go enjoy the white whilst at 24 and experience the thrill of having a car that optically stands out. Where as my brain tells me to go for the sleek understated conservative look, you know the guy who pulls up like he's an assasin without getting noticed much.

Ha I've gone mad!!!

Each to their own, but personally I generally dislike white cars...

To me, depending on the car, they often can look too blingy (footballers, MTV cribs, rappers, middle-eastern oil billionaires, wannabes, look-at-me, all spring to mind), or even sometimes chavvy (e.g. a white Range Rover).

However, I'm not for a second suggesting all white car drivers fall in to one of the above categories, and I think probably Apple's popularity has a large part to play in it too.

I do sometimes see a white car that I think looks okay, or even good (Audis are generally better at pulling it off than say, a Vauxhall Astra), but generally I think it's an over-popular fashion, that can make it look like you're following the crowd, even if you have a genuine liking for it.

I admit that, when choosing my colour, I was primarily interested in not looking like a show-off boy racer (an Orange Focus RS would be the last thing on my list), and wanted something a little more Q-car, but still intesting/good-looking - I chose Estoril Blue BTW after some agonising.

Re-reading this post before I hit send, I hope this doesn't sound like a rant, and I really hope it doesn't offend anyone; I'm just trying to articulate, for the first time 'out-loud', my opinion as requested by the OP; I completely agree with everyone that's already stated taste is very subjective/personal.

P.S. it's entirely possible I'm just getting old (nearly 33) :)

I think assasins tend to be a bit more decisive :)

My opinion would be neither :p White is too common and chavvy a lot of the time, grey is too dull (though Daytona is a nice shade of it compared to some...)

Well if having a glacier white car makes me a chav, I'm proud to be one ha ha! Love my car and love the colour!!!!

Ha, knew it would be controversial, but everyone is allowed their own opinion, right? :p

Ruthus, If it makes any difference I have seen a glacier white, s line, with pano and privacy glass close up and wow, it looked class.
I had wanted a Red Audi for years and Loved Misano Red so had to get it out of my system, otherwise it would have been my choice.

Some of the other colours only look good under bright lighting in a showroom or when amazingly clean on a sunny day, and then are a bit flat when you see them driving down the road in normal use. Audi use Misano Red, Glacier White and Ice silver to show off the car in adverts to its best for a reason (shame silver is so common as saw a ice silver yesterday and looked really good)
Daytona excluded as is S Line exclusive, so obviously as would be misleading in adverts if not everyone could get it.
I think that says a lot.

Dany Garand, the A3 designer himself who I spoke to personally said that the Glacier White and Daytona Grey are the best colors on offer on the Audi. It's crazy how a colour can mean so much!

It's all opinion though, his or anyone's. I think the scuba blue is a fantastic colour (obviously :p) and everyone who has seen my car comments on it too.

Go with whichever you like the best, and don't be so concerned so much with what other people think of it!

Bang on camerson.

I always base my decisions on what I want not how others will perceive it!

People always seem to think that you buy a car as a status symbol, but I've bought my car because I just love cars and the way they make you, as an owner, feel! The thought of climbing into my shiny new audi everyday makes me happy, not the envious looks I get as I drive past.

Exactly. I bought the car because it's a good car that's very economical, still with a decent amount of performance, high quality, lots of gadgets and looks good - not just because it's an Audi! And I like blue cars, so scuba blue was the only choice for me :p

Yawn, I can't believe this is still running !!! :gaehn:

White, grey or any colour looks good on an Audi. The end !!!

Agreed. I think any new A3 has an understated classy look. When it comes to the performance models I love the subtelty of the differentiation, although the four exhausts of the S3 maybe a bit much, a debadged M135i has to be the ultimate Q car with the S3 not too far behind. If I want to shout "look at my sporty car" both Audi and BMW have plenty of alternatives. I am not sure everyone really gets that Audi and BMW don't want these models to look like in your face hot hatches that Ford, Vauxhall, Renault etc. churn out.

Hi Osman,

I got my Audi 31st May, I thought for quite a while about Daytona Grey and Glacier white but being 23 and loving the White Trend i went for glacier white, I haven't regretted it! I do think the Daytona grey looks slick and professional but the white is just much 'cooler'. I don't regret my choice. it stands out so well especially in late summer evenings with the Xenon lights, they match the colour of the car and you haev the black grill to seperate them which makes it look like a BEAST!

Go for the 'charcoal grey' colour for your next car when your older and less fun. ;)

Now go get Glacier white, roll the windows down and look like a badass rolling round town! hahaha.

Great choice in my opinion, and white is a surprisingly easy colour to keep looking clean. Sure you will love it, enjoy.

Good thread as well, colour always strikes up a good debate as is such a personal thing, as it doesn't come down to numbers.
Most Audi standard colours are pretty good, if a little safe, but I suppose it goes with the understated appeal of the A3, which is why we are all attracted to it in the first place.

A Colleague has just had her Scuba Blue S Line SB delivered this morning. Jealous that its here now, and also what a cracking colour!!
First one i have seen in the flesh, they look so agressive with the DRLs on!!

Its a good article, I really like glacier white especially, but it seams the popularity for white has already peaked. No reason not buy it as is great colour, but shows quickly how fads come and go. I quite like avoiding treads too much and just go for what I like. But I suppose if you see really nice looking white cars around then your more like to want the same. Not many people pick a colour without seeing on the car they want, so the more a particular colour is around at the dealers, the more people will pick it.

HELP!! I still can't decide which colour? Daytona or glacier??

Any pics would really help!! Thanks everyone

I find the choice of colours that Audi have a bit conservative really. I like to have a car that stands out from the rest, my previous colour was Tango and my present is Candy Red and I'm looking for something similar without having the go to the extra cost of either the Audi exclusive or the customised. I was interested in the Misano red but it looks awful in the flesh. It maybe that I have to finally ditch my conceptions that white gets dirty easily and choose Glacier White, as one of my options is for the privacy glass. Although the pearl effect Daytona Grey looks interesting in the pictures.

Dave is yours the S-Line version of the paint?

yes, Daytona is s-line exclusive. Pics were taken last week when weather was overcast all day, and Daytona looks good even in those conditions and even better in the sunlight when you get the full pearlescent effect.

If they'd have done Daytona on the s3 that would have been my first choice. Monsoon was a bit too silvery for my liking.

Daytona is a fantastic colour and suits the A3 so well!
It really shows the sharp lines of the car so nicely reflecting different shades of grey. Approx 50 of them ;). Then when the sun hits it it really pops with metal flake that a 70's beach buggy would be envious of!

I'm not saying glacier isn't a nice colour, but rule out Daytona by seeing it on the wrong shape Audi.

I haven't seen many 8V A3's out there so far, but the ones I have seen have ALL been glacier white, and I STILL strongly dislike it! For me, white just doesn't do the car any favours at all. If I only had the choice of those 2 colours it would be Daytona all the way.

Thanks guys, sounds like Daytona Grey could be the choice when I eventually get around to ordering my saloon, months off yet. I like a colour that changes according to the light...

I didn't realise how nice the colour was until I had finished washing it in the bright sun... It really does have a metal flake affect in it. Good choice! :)

Wow so Daytona seems everyone's favourite I guess! I do think it still has a look of dolphin grey and remands me of my old A3....such a difficult choice. I think I will hold off ordering for a while hmmm

what about Lotus Grey? It's a saloon-only colour so not many pics around.

Its a possibility but I would have to see one first, which might be difficult....

Wow just passed a glacier white s line....it looked the dogs 🐶🐶
