MOT time soon and i Know i got a couple of joints/bushes gone...... so i thought, what the hell! lets give the front suspension a complete overhall!

Just out of interest, what brand would you use, short of just going to the audi parts dept?

Meyle, lemforder, and febi are the big three brands as far as I am aware

As above, Lemforder is the OEM manufacturer, Meyle HD are ok but not as good as the Lemforder, Febi are considered 2nd grade in mainland Europe...

Lemforder ones are OEM, lemforder just grind the audi part number and the logo off. I've got a set of Meyle on my B5 at the moment they have done 60K miles and been on for just over 2 years (fitted July 2011) Car passed it's MOT last week no problems. Will look to change them in the next couple of years and put another set of meyle on.

yeah, i used the meyle brand, admit, not best quality, but its only for now as i a had a couple of bushes gone, so made sense to change the whole lot....... as far as doing it, was maybe the easiest job i have ever done on my car! took me about an hour per side (without track ends as garage is going to do them). After taking my wheels off, i realised just how bad the bushes were, both front tyres had wear, one was very uneven on side wall and the other side wall was bald! tyres are only 5-6 months old :-(

lend me the money and ill buy some poly bushes ha ha, besides how can i spoil the ride? i replaced broken bushes with new ones, which inturn makes the ride better? Admit, those arms aint going to improve going round a corner at 110mph or improve drifting round a round a bout, i dont do none of those anyway so i dont need expensive arms, my car is built mainly for stance and looks (maybe a bit of power) but not for racing around

Did the pinch bolts on upper arms cause any grief?, how did you get them out? just interested as I'll be facing these sometime and the pinch bolts on the track rod ends were a b4stard

About 7-8 years ago i used a cheap set of "no name" suspension arms on my b5 audi quattro, i done the job just before going abroad for the summer holiday trip. Luckily i kept the old arms with me and when i got there i swapped the old arms back- the ride was that bad on the cheap arms ! Returned to GSF for a full refund as they could not get Lemforder in time ! Since then i never skimp on brakes and suspension ! Having a fast saloon with some pedigree and fitting £100 suspension kit is worse than driving on the old arms ! Why ? Because when you hear knocks you slow down, with cheap arms you drive faster then the bush rips off the housing or the balljoint pops out especially when doing 70-80 Mph round a bend ! Very few people pay for quality nowadays !

yeah was really easy, they been off loads of times to be fair as i fitted coilovers a while back, but basically, undo the 16mm nut up to the last few threads and give it a tap with a bit of wood and a hammer until it starts to move,, then remove nut and tap out the rest of the bolt with a long screw drive or similar. then drive a chisel or something like that in the gaps to open the cups up a bit and arms should just lift out if not just tap them upwards....... to be honest if i had to say what the hardest part was, it would have been the front bottom arms as the ball joints were seized and took a beeting to get them out lol

I know what you mean, but if they only last me 12 months, then its only £100 but yes in the long run i will be upgrading the bushes, going to go for top camber adjust arms and as you know they are not cheap alone!
