18" alloy to 19" alloy... Uprate tyre size question

Hi guys.....

I'm looking to raise the size of the alloys on my s3 from the standard 18" to 19"

i've got my eyes on a set just now and want to find out some facts from people in the know

right... Here goes!

The tyre size on my car at the moment is the 225/40 r18... Et56... 7.5j width... Just the standard s3 alloys... The new alloys that i'm eyeballing at the moment are r19 width 9j et33 .... The recommended tyre sizes for these are 255/35 r19

will these fit on a s3? I know the poke is increased by 42mm but the inset decreases by 4mm... I'll need to measure that poke against the old alloys to see if they're goin to stick out too far....


has anyone fitted these to a s3? Are there any clearance issues? What is the maximum suggested width for a s3? Can you safely put 225/35 r19 tyres onto an alloy 9j wide?

Right guys, decided to answer this myself after a good bit of digging and its always good info to pass on to anyone...

19" alloys... Looks like 8.5 is the maximum width with an ET43 offset.. This adds an additional 26mm to the poke of the alloy and measuring against my car, it looks as if 30mm out from the standard alloy poke is all you'll get away with.... Tyre size for this should be 235/35 r19.....

The hunt is on.... Need to investigate more... Anybody think these figures or wrong, please feel free to correct me, so I can get it right

225/35R19 is a bit safer, and remove screws to avoid rubbing with load and so on.

I was thinking bout the 225 tyres, but would these fit on a 8.5" wheel ok?

Yup, I had 225/35s on my 8.5x19s, running at ET44 with no rubbing. It's a bit of a stretch, so you sacrifice some of the sidewall protection from kerbing and potholes but 235s will rub on a wheel that far out. Maybe if it was ET48 you could sneak a 235, but I'd probably still say stick with 225/35R19
