My S3 Thread

Do you live in Redfern? haha

Im under 25 man ... and pay far less than that! but probably lower agree value.

But insurance companies are stupid. My missus got her renewal from NRMA and it had increased $300 over the previous years premium, an online quote with much cheaper than the renewal notice but more than previous year. Then signed up with RACQ for $600 cheaper than the renewal notice...

What is the spec of your wheels? width and offset (including spacers)?

Im on the hunt for wheels and finding it impossible to find something that will fill the guards in 5x100 PCD

Nah, I'm near Chatswood. Proper family-ville, nothing ever happens. A neighbour threats to cark it every now and then so an ambulance comes, that's about all the excitement for the neighbourhood.

I do need to shop around but when I do, and I go through what I've done and the agreed value. Most either quote silly money or decline to insure me at all! I guess I'll need to drop the value at some point. Every year mine has gone up. ANZ wanted $300 more and I just moved companies and got it for about the same as previous year. I will shop around next year though since I'll be 30.

The wheels are 17x9" Pro Race 1.2 in ET40 but I run H&R DRA (the bolt on type) spacers - 25mm front (to clear 6 pots) and 20mm rear. So final ETs - ET15 front, ET20 rear. You can buy them in those offsets so you don't need spacers but they're not cheap here. I just came across a bargain.

Im trying to avoid spacers/adapters due to the polices attitude towards "hoons" here.

Im assuming ET20 would fit all round? I actually found a set a guy with a WRX is selling in ET20.

Alternativily If I do want to run spacers/adapters I have a set of 17x9 ET25 from my old Evo sitting in the shed... I would end up with an ET05 or 00 :gun2: not sure if its too much but lol

I ran ET5 with 8.5s with no issues (on the front) but am running 3 degrees camber and that was with a 225 tyre. I'm now running 245s and it's got about 5mm poke or so.

ET20 would be fine with stock brakes or even the LCR setup I'd bet.

So the stop gap after run pump I got....leaked and didn't seem to run at all. It had the wrong plug anyway and I kinda modified it to fit but even then... useless. I came out of work and was greeted by a small puddle as I reversed out of my spot. Great.

I got home and set about cannibalising the two pumps to make one good one. Since you can break them down, I used the "turbine housing" from the good pump and fitted it to my pump with the knackered housing, which worked fine before.

The end result:

And in...

IMG_3976.jpg

It still doesn't come on though :( Doesn't seem to be leaking in any way though so that's one good point. I'll see tomorrow but I think it's just ********. I always take it easy for last few kms before I shut it off anyway so it'll be fine till the new pump arrives. ****** thing.

I've only just pulled my pump apart as it would sporadically work, i'm surprised it even occasionally worked as it was a mess inside. I'm about to order a replacement from ECS if your keen I can get 2?

As for Rego, CTP and full comp you are dreaming if you think turning 30 will make it cheaper. for me coming up in two weeks, Rego $330, CTP $ 563, Comprehensive $2820! I assume my comp is high as I have ALL my mods included and agreed value is $22k but still turning 30 made NO real difference to premiums.

Cheers for the offer but I got a Bosch one from the states for $100 delivered. Looks to have all the right bits:
Mopar Electric Auxiliary Water Pump 2007 2009 SRT4 Dodge Caliber 05047003AB | eBay
A few of the others on here have used Vauxhall/Holden pumps too. It seems they are shared among loads of models.

Blimey, that's mad for fully comp! My agreed is 20k with AAMI. I can't believe how much of a rip off it is here for insurance (and everything else for that matter).

I forgot to ask, how did you go with the servicing and clutch fit etc? Was that cable any good?

Tial MVS 44mm wastegate arrived today:

Haha, well the clutch change is still in progress, but I won't bore you with details. The rest of the gear/servicing was easy.
The cable worked great, but it is cursed I think. It tells me I need new coil packs, both oxygen sensors are dead/dying and my central locking pump is on its way out, good times :p

You need to photo ALL of your gear before it goes on, the pile must be getting pretty epic!

Ah, I used to get that error about the central locking pump but it went and never came back. I think it was just a low battery. Wouldn't like to be changing the O2 sensors though. I bet they are a pain.

Yeah I should get a pic of the pile of all the bits. My spare room is filling up!

Just realised it's an MV-R wastegate. The MV-S is 38mm whereas mine is 44mm and because I was bored, another pic of it:

TSR are taking their time sending the manifold out but it's not as if I'm waiting for it!

So it turns out my "new" pump does work it's just way quieter than the old one! Should do the trick until I fit the new engine then. I guess cleaning out the gunk from the "turbine" housing done the trick to make it quieter.

Yeah, according to this:
TiAL Sport - MV-R

The MV-R 44mm wastegate is more compact than any current 44 or 46mm wastegate on the market. You get two top air ports and three bottom air ports for easy install. This unit is a direct bolt on for our V44. The MV-R has an optional extreme high temp casting available for Motorsport applications

****** TSR still haven't sent the manifold and they said it'd go on Tuesday. I hate when companies are slow to send items without any particular reason given. It's not as if they're cheap either!

Id expect it to turn up on its own truck, with a velvet lined box, a ribbon, and a gift card lettered with gold leaf. Maybe thats just me.
Was gonna ask what you paid for the mvr but prices wont exactly be comparible, sometimes i forget yiure the other side of the world.

I feel like a whinging ***** if I call up and ask what's going on but I'd be happier if they just told me why it's late...

I paid $400 which is a good deal. Some jokers want $500+ for em. There's a few fakes kicking about though mind you. Tial posted a vid on YouTube of one dying after 6,200 cycles...

Cool vid! That rig is weird.
My mate bought a cheap wastegate from demon motorsport for his 200sx, so far so good at 430hp.
Only gripes he has with it is that when the engine/wastegate is relatively cold it spikes 1or 2psi more than it should.
Once its warm though it performs faultlessly

B7 S4 MAF purchased. I just need to work out how I'm going to transition between 90mm and 100mm. Probably just get some 90mm silicon and hope it's thick enough to clamp 100mm over the top of it?

Yeah pretty crazy isn't it.

What brand did he get? Doesn't sound too bad at all. Demon Tweeks wouldn't sell "wing pong ting" sorta brands though would they?

It was demom motorsport not demon tweeks, just sold as their own branded wastegate, although looks identical to cheap chinese ones.
Demon one comes with a warranty tho

Ah fair enough, if it works, it works! Wonder how long for...

It would appear my manifold/downpipe/lines have left TSR and are in Germany :) Should be here on Thursday.

They said they did a kit but as you've found out, it's not listed on their site. I also asked for some fire sleeve but not sure if that's included. We'll soon see. If not I'll just buy some. Need to get some heat shielding material anyway.

Manifold etc are in Sydney now. Mad  that's sub 24 hrs. I won't get it until Thursday though. Not that I am in a rush...

Enjoying catching up on this thread. Every time i see your car it makes me want pro race wheels....looks very smart! :salute:

Cheers Adam. I do miss the CHs sometimes. In black on yours, they look awesome!

So the manifold and downpipe just arrived from TSR but they forgot to include the turbo lines and also the EGT port is missing on the downpipe. Obviously I can get one welded in but it's kinda annoying that I'll have to go around, find someone to do it etc when it clearly features it on their website. I mean it's not as if it's a cheap manifold/downpipe...

I had some nylon rings turned up to fit over the ends... Is the B7 S4 tube the same diameter as the RS4?

I'll see if I can get something made up then. Yeah, apparently the same part.

Here's the lovely TSR manifold. I couldn't resist a quick mock up. Apart from the EGT probe issue, I'm happy as larry.

Not the best pics as I was holding parts with one hand and taking them one handed in crap lighting but yeah, you get the idea!

Just need to order a couple of vband clamps now. Proper Tial ones are mega money, of course. Found a dude selling them in the states but he's gone all quiet.

Only just came across this thread Sam - no idea why I've not seen it before. The S3 is looking epic and looking forward to seeing how it goes with the GTX strapped to it. Keep up the good work :icon_thumright:

Will have to arrange an OZ trip with Rob next year me thinks...

Did you have to request an get bung? Did it change the price? Almost 99% sure this is the road I'm going, sucks that they never fitted it for you!

sam i know youve waited a while, but youre not in a rush so id be asking for a replacement with egt. The money you pay you shouldnt have to go retrofitting one with a welder

Yeah it's a bit of a downer but they'll cover the costs and I'll make sure I find someone decent locally who can TIG weld. It's way too much hassle getting it sent back to the UK and another one sent here. I'm not too fussed really. Just as long as it doesn't look bad compared to the other welds!

Be fine dude... plus it will be wrapped anyway

If you get mega stuck I know Bill has these bosses on the shelf...

Sorry mate, totally missed this.

It'll probably be a little while before the engine goes in but we shall see.

You're definitely welcome to stay over here in my spare room if either or both of you come!

Looking good Sam -

Re insurance - I a bit older

but for $14k - RTA - $330, Greenslip - $567,

Cheers! Do you have any more pics of yours? I love that color. Wish mine was the same :( That's well cheap for insurance! Who are you with? Fully comp?

I just put a fairly decent order in with Summit Racing for odds and ends:

Screen%20Shot%202013-09-10%20at%2011.34.10%20am.png

At least with those bits we can get the engine built. IE crank pulley dowel kit, billet fuel rail, oem fuel line to AN6 on order plus a few other bits.

Getting closer....

Forge sump order cancelled. Forge, the jokers, wanted 79 quid to deliver it via UPS! In contrast, the TSR manifold and downpipe, a big parcel weighing 10kg, was 100 quid via UPS. I think Forge need to negotiate a better rate...

Quick search and I found an eBay seller, shipping for 20 quid. A bit more like it.

Yes mine full comprehensive insurance - in locked garage . Insurer Shannons

Will post some photos on my thread so as not to hijack your thread.

Ive noticed that some of the US suppliers appear to be making as much on freight as the items - just have to look at their local options - the last few orders I have had from the US I use a consolidator to receive and send the items to OZ - get free / low freight in the US then they send for minimal add ons - I have been using My USA , but their are a number of them

Awesome well then hopefully mine's not too far off. It's locked up at night and in the day (secure work parking) so that should help.

Cool I'll take a look.

Yeah, I had thought about doing that but then I'd have to wait longer. Usually I try and avoid getting bent over for postage. Some are ok like 034, IE etc. If they use USPS then it's less of a problem. It's when they use couriers and are probably getting bent over themselves...
