Audi and Radio Codes

I popped into my local Audi about 2 weeks ago to ask for some radio codes.
They said not a problem, asked for the serial number, VIN number, my contact details and said they will phone me back in a couple of day with the codes.

By the end of this week it would have been 3 weeks, 4 phone calls, a visit and still no radio code.
How the hell can it take them 3 weeks to get me a radio code?
I'm not sure on their procedure but it seems like its all dealt with one guy called Darren who's been on holiday.

I've had a couple of issues with my local Audi dealer which caused a total lack of faith but 2 weeks ago I thought I'd give them ago again cause I really needed the part and I had to get it from the dealer.
The parts never turned up when they said they would but the next dealer up (That I was semi passing) had the part in, so I started to drive up, then they rang me back and said they found the parts, they've just been delivered.
I drove back, collected my parts and they gave me a discount as they messed me around, happy days I thought. Till I found out 1 out of the 2 parts was wrong. ***!!!! but I never needed the parts in the end and it was only a couple of pound, so I kept them as stock. This was them slowly redeeming themselves but now they have gone right back down on my list again. Back to using the local VW garage for my parts.

Went to them on saturday with a mate who was thinking about buying a A1. Seen one salesman who had to cut the selling bit early cause his appointment turned up, fair enough and he went off to find another salesman for her. Bout 10-15mins later no one turned up, I'm still waiting for parts people to see me and they ended up having to get the receptionist to open a couple of the A1s and A3s up for her to look at cause I don't think there was any sales staff around.
There was several people in suits walking around looking like they are not doing anything. ahhhhhhhhhhhh I'm starting to hate this branch more and more. I'm half tempted to drive an hour of the road to the other main dealer.

Part of me always thinks its the fact that I turn up in a 14 year old A4 and they treat me according to my car.
Either way, its crap and they are ****e!!

seriously though why not invest in some tools and decode yourself with the amount of work your doing on them, just a thought.

Have thought about it but I want this lot gone and then I'll move on to something else.
Just need the codes.

Codes can be retrieved by any techy but are usually chargeable, so the one guy answer is BS, I know how its done & seen it myself, guess they're one of the anal dealers around that just want to make life hard for simple things, but going to a dealer for codes to 4 radio's may raise eyebrows regardless if its legit or not lol.

Going by the manual Audi giving out radio codes is a free service.
When I asked they was happy enough offer me the codes for free, wish they told me it could take up to or over 3 weeks.

The eyebrows was raised, questioned and answered. They seemed happy with the answer, if they not comfortable with giving me 4 codes they should have said and given me one.

So a guy walks into your garage, says give me 4 radio codes please for radio's not fitted to my car & all for free, guess after 3-4 weeks of nothing, you got your answer lol.

Come on Scott, to quote that from the manual is easy, but the supplying of radio code, using common sense, would apply to certain scenario's, like the radio that's actually fitted in the car that doesn't work with the code that's written in the manual/service book, to expect them to spend there time for free in this scenario is wrong imho, you wouldn't do such a thing for just some guy that walks in of the street & doesn't know you from Adam, that's not to say any one of us wouldn't help a person like this, but it would certainly make me think, where did those radio's come from, maybe some fellow forum members etc etc before I helped, 1 radio maybe, but 4.

Me: Hi, are you able to supply radio codes for Audi standard radios?
Audi: Hi sir, yeah not a problem. Do you have the serial code and VIN number?
Me: Yeah, I got both of them. I have 4/5 radio codes. Is that a problem? I understand it might look a bit dodgy having 4 but they are radios that was given to me and faulty units that I fixed.
Audi: That's not a problem at all. I'll take a copy of the codes and VIN number and we'll contact you when we have the codes.
Me: Brilliant thank you. Is there any charge for that?
Audi: No its all free. Would you like a coffee or a cup of tea?
Me: No thanks but I would like to talk to parts as well.
Audi: I'll get someone from parts and we will give you a ring when the codes are ready.
Me: thank you very much.

If a guy walked into my garage and asked for four radio codes I would have told them to go to main dealer as there is nothing I can do.
If I was main dealer and a guy walked in asking for radio codes and its a service I offer, I would have given him radio codes.
Who are they to judge me for what I have or where I got it?
They offer a free service, I expect them to do that free service. If they wanted money to do it thats fine. tell me and if I'm happy to pay it I would pay it.

Why is it wrong?
Its a service that they offer. Its in print. If they don't want to supply radio keys don't offer the service and don't write it down. If they wanted the radios fitted to the car they could have said and I would have fitted each radio to the car.

Why does it matter if they know me?
Its a garage open to the public. You expect them to know each and everyone personally that walks in to the garage before they serve them or offer their services?

that's not to say any one of us wouldn't help a person like this, but it would certainly make me think, where did those radio's come from, maybe some fellow forum members etc etc before I helped, 1 radio maybe, but 4.

If they had a problem with the amount of codes they could have said, "Sorry sir but we can only do one code at a time." Fine I'll give you one code a week or something that we can agree on. I've bought enough parts from this garage to be at least one step up from random joe bloggs off the street.

Try doncaster audi, they said they would charge 20 and can take vin and serial over the phone, then try another audi, do each one at a different shop. when they all ring back with codes say 'thanks, that other garage wouldnt do it, nice one'

you can buy software for 100-200$ to actually decode those radios and change the codes.

Its only a one time thing. I'm not spending that one something that I'd use for a day and not use again.

Haha, I'll just phone ever other Audi dealer up in the UK and see who can give me a radio code for free. lol

Plymouth dealership? I had the same problem, only the head technician can get the code blah blah blah, took a fortnight to get it. Thankfully they gave it to me for free the 2nd time (I managed to lose the receipt they wrote it down on. Now it's written under the engine cover.

The crux of it is Scott, you want to flog the radio's & make as much money as possible, so outlaying £20 per radio isn't good for you, which I totally understand that logic, completely.

However, its a free service, so if it takes you 6 months to get or not then no loss is it, then what can you whinge about, if you don't get them or cant wait any longer, then go somewhere else, but lets be honest, you wont, unless its for free & because its free you will push it with them, not allot more too it really, as I could sit here & spill logic, common sense, bs whatever, you still wont accept scenario's may be accepted & some wont, but because its in print from a manual from 1787 and you've got you want that service still. (be quite funny if a manual from 2013 also stated this, but still I think logic of the radio that came with the car applies, not your haul in your garage from a night of dogging

I'm not trying to make as much money as I can. I'm not that greedy. I just want to sell the units to get them out of my way, cover my costs and time.

Free service or not its still taking too long.
If you put your car in to audi and they offered you a free health check, you accept it and that took 2 weeks. Would you happily sit and go "its ok, its a free service. I'll wait"?

I understand what you're saying but its not just the radios, its bit bug bare at the moment but on top of all the other crap I've delt with them.

They charged me when I got my code from them, and I had to wait the 2 weeks.

I got my radio code from local Audi Dealers FOC and without hassle..they even commented on how nice it was to see an old S4.
