what wax ??? yesterdays wash n brush up

yesterdays wash n brush up what wax are you guys using ? i have been using several including Autoglym high definition wax
until yesterday when i used a new wax with great results........ Harley wax definitely gets my thumbs up :thumbsup:

Looks great....tbh there is so much wax out there from the old established brands to the feck off, boutique expensive stuff.... I don't know what to choose from anymore. I have been using Meguiers as well as own label Swedish brands and I am still not totally happy with the way the go on and the results. Would love for once and for all for someone to recommend me a good car wash ( bucket and mitt ) and a easy to apply, wax on polish off which is preferably clear and you don't need to work too hard getting a result.....

many many many waxes to be had!
i use this Halfords | Simoniz Original Car Wax 150g

been around for years, my dad used to use it and i think it is great!
be warned though, it is very hard work! and does require karate kid wax on wax off technique!
if you want something easy to use this is NOT it!

i am wondering if there would be any vast improvement using a clay bar first, as of yet i have never used the clay, my normal routine is a wash and chamois, then a polish with some poorboy polish and then the new favorite Harley's wax id also like to get a electric buffer but Ive hear some on the market from your usual auto shops are grade 1 Cra# so think i will need to do a little more research first

Well, I bought the Meguiers clay bar kit with detailing spray a few years back and it is amazing how much crud comes of your bodywork using a clay bar. You get lots of tar spotting up here and using a clay bar and some grease remover ( anfättning spray they call it up here ) works wonders. If you run your bare hand over a car panel and you feel little tiny dots under you hand...then you need a clay bar. Dead easy to use and the difference is staggering. Funny up here, no one uses a clay bar....and I do get some strange looks from my neighbours when I start getting the Plasticine out!

Bilt Hamber Clay is good stuff, I bought some off eBay. £10 for a 200g bar and only need water to lubricate it.

+1 with A3 there.....you can use it on a panel just after you wash it and while it's still wet....you need to have a wet surface for the clay to move over the bodywork, or it just goes a sticky mess!...They try and flog you a clay detail spray but I am sure water would do the trick. I bought the clay / detailing kit from Megiuers a few years back for about 20 quid and am only half way through it in 2013....but I am a lazy barsteward! hahaha

Thanks Chez....yeagh the butter type, Carnauba wax certainly seems to be the weapon of choice for me. I remember using a Turtle liquid clear wax many years ago when I still lived in the Old Country. That stuff was ok and didn't leave all the "creamy yuck" in the crevices of the bodypanels...

The wax looks better when the paint is in good order. You can get really carried away with this, so if you are an OCD kind of person, beware

If you've never clayed the car certainly do this, and also use a good tar remover. Then you've 2 choices really, use a wax that will shine, or get busy with the paint correction (removing the swirls), then do the waxing. Iron-X is pretty cool too, as this dissolves contaminants on the paint; also great for wheels.

Although I've corrected my car the best I can, I prefer to use a product that contains fillers like Autoglym SRP + a wax. I highly recommend a sealant over a wax, although this is fairly subjective in the (sterile/glass) look it can give vs a (warm) wax look.

I've used Werkstatt Acrylic before and that was pretty good. Also worth a look is Meguire's Sealant #21. I dont think many people use it but I find it does a great job.

Contact brodster on here ask him about the Angel wax range of waxes.

I have used Guardian and its great to use do a panel leave for a minute then buff off absolutely effortless and the results are fantastic. Then when doing a maintenance wash finish with a coat of QED.

And the great stuff about it is it will not break the bank.

Dodo juice supernatural hybrid looks awesome on most colours, and on the reds I use klearcote machine glaze topped with vics concours for awesome results. Everyone has their favourite combos, you just need to find what's right for you. I'm using the cheap 3m clay from fleabay at the moment with dj born slippy lube. Works perfectly well, and it's dirt cheap, just order well in advance. And if you use iron-x it is brilliant, but wear something to cover your nose and mouth or you will gag spraying it on!

If you're keen you will start spotting swirls and marks everywhere, and then it's time for a da. Best purchase I made IMO.

OK so my clay bar arrived looks like i'm gonna be busy on Saturday . I Am also looking for a top quality sealant or is there no requirement for a sealant after using a good quality pure wax ??

One or other will do. If you want to use both then the correct order is sealant first followed by wax. If you do it the other way round and wax first, the sealant won't stick to the wax and you'll have wasted your time. You could go for a hybrid which would give you the best of both and you'd only have to put one thing on the paint. I noticed you mentioned Autoglym HD wax which is a hybrid. I have this and Dodo Blue Velvet Pro in my collection. They both work well on my dolphin grey A4.

completely agree with the above - i put it on my car once and it took some serious elbow greese to remove it! so much in fact i had to buy a DA DodoJuice Polisher!

i have accquired a few over the years my fav's are zymol glasur and carbon(dark) & vics conq for reds still have my original Angelwax wax as well.
