Hi all just recently bought a 2000 s3 in Ming blue.
Standard other than panel filter recirc valve n a (smooth map).

thinking of getting
exhaust system, been looking at full milltek systems any advise ? Better value for the money ?
Fmic noticed there's a company doing them on here for £379 plus pipe work ? Any good.
also some pipe work : tip etc
Anyone got these mods and tell me what gains ?
been told to change turbo but if I can get 300 on standard ill be happy.
also anyone done a clutch ? They much of a ball ache never done a s3 before , Think ill need to do one soon.

cheers guys

Hi buddy thanks yea just read through was handy was just a bit more interested in personal experiences with parts , fitting and gains noticed a lot of people changing Rods ? They a weak part on these you know ? Thanks con

Try the bar on the top right, think it says search?

Those FAQ's and stickies are all written by owners and forum members so.they are totally personal and unbiased opinions.

Rods on 1.8t are not weak by design, but once you start ramping up the torque and power they become a concern. It is all down to pot luck, what you want from the car and internal factors which nobody could tell.

Hi and welcome to ASN...

As said, you should have a look through the FAQs thread in the stickies as this has links to a load of threads discussing the sorts of things you are after...

...but in summary...
Exhaust system won't give much in the way of gains as such as its not much bigger than OE... better off looking at a 3" DP and sports cat for actual gains... OE DP and cats are restrictive and can create high EGTs hurting performance...

The FMIC you are on about is the AH Fabs V2 and is an excellent FMIC... is running on 400+ hp cars and easy to fit... there is a FMIC thread in the stickies, I would advise you to read it :)

The best TIP on the market is the Badger 5 80mm TIP... has been proven to give up to 18hp gains as a bolt on some cars...

As for 300hp on a std K04... this has been done but... and its a big but... its hugely subject to supporting mods and condition of engine/turbo etc... Westy (search his user name and read his thread) has achieved this but he had a new turbo and all the bolt on mods (including a large port head) you can get... Badger 5 recently had an S3 in that produced 295hp using a std K04, AH Fabs V2 FMIC, Relentless exhaust manifold and B5 TIP...

You would also need to consider injecters as OE ones max out around the 280/290 mark... this level of power is not achieved by the turbo alone, timing advance plays a key part in this level of power as the K04 will not flow best part of 300hp alone...

If you want an easy 300hp then get a hybrid...

You will also need to get a proper custom map... generic ones will not cut it

Thanks for all your help guys , I did read about the cooler and power just looked at down pipes n de-cats there not cheap for these ay ! Been thinking its look either bassicly go all out ie turbo, injectors , full system , tip , custom map n fmic or don't bother.
been thinking might go a diff route just get a cat back so it sounds a bit better then just do visual parts ie wheels , possibly tints , spray a few bits.
Would you recommend the badger 5 tip is worth just putting on as I read its common for original to collapse under pressure even with just stage 1 mine this would shorley only help and maybe have minimal gains.
Thanks again Connor

+ rods... (and everything else that will need replacing like fuel pumps, coil packs, various other hoses! lol

Everyone recommends putting a larger TIP on - especially a B5. Not to sure where you saw/heard it will give you minimal gains? The amount of R&D does not suggest this at all....

As mentioned in the first post by Gops above, have a little read through here about specific stuff you want to do -

http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-...info-stickies-please-read-before-posting.html

Then if your finding that long winded use the search bar in the top right...l.

Oh and welcome to the money pit :rockwoot:

Mean minimal gains if I'm not doing other supporting mods mate ie ill just have : cat back - panel filter - recirc valve - tip - stage 1 map,
dont suppose any of you guys know anyone selling a cat back system ? Looking at milltek ones non resonated not expecting many gains really if any as obviously the cats and dp are the main restriction just want it to sound better , also I know slightly off topic any of you guys know what fog light bulbs ill need currently in Greece and can't check but wanted to order some cheers again

I reckon you will get more gains from a B5 TIP open cone filter with heat shield, than just a Milltek cat back exhaust (non res). Both resulted in glorious sounds though :)

TIP gains have been talked to death on here- have a search and read up...yes you will see gains by just changing the OEM TIP to a B5 one without any other mods....yes you can run it without being mapped....and yes the best thing to do is get a TIP on first and then stage 1 custom remap....

There is a classified section in here you can look through to see if anyone is selling a Milltek.....as they are regarded as the best cat back system for our cars then they don't hang about for long and usually go for good money.

Hi buddy yea It all ready has a stage 1 remap was done by previous owner so would ideally map again and cheers just messaged a company regarding tip be gettin next week hopefully and I have looked and as you say cat backs are hard to get let alone cheap might just get a new one no faffing about then cheers for your help mate

Yea good to be on a forum where everyone actually helps everyone out and yea I have a place just near me (amd) I did look I'm a mechanic so I'd fit my self noticed they do either 10%off or free fitting so that will save me approx 55 going to ask them about there map as my current map was done by c g remaps not a company I am familiar with drives smooth so going to put tip and exhaust then prob get amd to rolling road it then if there map will make a difference I will buy that think best way to do it is go up and have a chat with them cheers con
If enough people interested in cat back's could maybe try a deal with them I know it's 10% off but £1600-1700 pounds of exhaust must have a little more negotiating :)

nice little thread.

I bought a badger5 tip with filter and heat shield. Made the car respond a lot better, as well as making it a lot louder. Great buy! highly recommended.
I've been looking into a milltek exhaust and this seems like a great deal. Shame they don't have a base in Jersey for the fitting and then potential rolling road!

What filter did you get buddy ? Been looking and aparenatly a panel filter gives best gains which I have was going to smooth air box to assist this but yea just looked again and getting an intake hose next week so hopefully see gains then :) I see the air filter and heat shield you mean it's approx extra £100 would you say would be worth it ? Just thought that's 5th price towards exhaust and in past open air filters normally have caused a further lag point to my vehicles you noticed this on your s3 ? Thanks mate

Alright mate, I got the JR air filter. I am a newbee here too. But when scrolling through all the previous posts etc its well argued that a cone filter gives the best results. They all talk about an OE S2000 one being the best. To make it easy for me, I just got the one that Badger5 sells. Everyone rates him on here and he seems to know his stuff, if you read his comments etc that he leaves.

Im sure like any mod, there will be positives and negatives. So far i am very happy with it. My car seemed to have more of a lag with the OE system. It definitely pulls a bit harder now, but it also sounds a lot louder. Including wind up and let off. My OE DV makes a lot of noise now, where it was very silent before. Bottom end you can hear the usual purr of a cone filter, which is nice.

If anything everyone suggests it as your first mod, and cars upto and beyond 300bhp seem to have one of these TIPS.
I will eventually put a car thread up!! with vids on.

Yea well I'm going to get the tip fit that then I think ill get exhaust and prob end up with the filter after exhaust , been looking more and more at front mounts as a lot of people on here saying they are not man enough really after remap and any mods , in a big debate alone of talk of ah fab ones also there is a kit on eBay for universal intercoolers (think they have one in classified ads) was gonna see if anyone had got an eBay one if so how rated

Hi guys,
the front mount intercooler you want is the 'wellycooler'. This is available on eBay, made by toyosport. It measures 600x300x76. Hope this helps

Have you got any personal knowledge on this cooler buddy ? And is that the £375 one ? Thanks Connor

Iv noticed all except forge which comes with adapted slam panel needs the slam panel grinding away slightly for fitment so didn't wanna go through any hassle to then get a pants cooler if ya get what I'm saying mate thanks

Yes, you need to cut the crash bar. I've just fitted mine. The link below doesn't come with hoses and pipe work but if you do a search in the stickies for the 'fmic' thread it will tell you exactly what's needed. The cheapest place to order pipe work and hoses from is 'ash' (auto silicone hoses) which are also on eBay. http://bit.ly/R75y6P

Oh that's cheap ! How much did your hose and clip kit cost as the kit I was looking at was £375 complete also you noticed difference from the cooler mate ? What other mods do you have and also how do they fit under bumper not in a funny way but do they look pants because of the slam panel being slightly modded or once there tucked up look oaky ? Cheers

They look fine. You need to have a read through the stickies at the fmic thread and it will tell you everything you need to know. I will post the link in a minute. Do plenty of research and you'll be fine

My phone won't let me copy the link to here! Either give me your e-mail address and I will send that way or use the search bar at the top

Cheers mate ill save yu hassle and go through the fmic threads , cheers for all your help

right, i see alot of deliberating, wild claims and terms like 'lag' used for filters and tips lol, and is it really worth it over an exhaust.

To clarify, a cat back exhaust will net you absolutely 0bhp, and 0 extra smiles. Dare i say it, it will prob sound not much greater than stock if you have the oem cats and downpipe system on there, that is the restriction, that is the part of the exhaust that offers the most 'bang for buck'. Id seriously advise against adding a miltek if you are looking for extra sound and power.

Basic bolt ons, in order of their 'bang for buck' are as follows:

A B5/80mm TIP with a cone filter OR panel filter. The filter is preference but you WILL see more powerz with a large cone.
3'inch downpipe and decat/sports cat - oe system is stupid, seriously restrictive, and on mapped cars that are driven hard, will see high egts and sap power.
Last Is a fmic (intercooler) - same reasons as the downpipe, better heat management, more available power/response.

/end

"fitting and gains noticed a lot of people changing Rods ? "

Hi

No need for new rods or anything else really.

A Milltek will last and last and makes quite a noticeable difference. I went for a resonated system, so it is not too loud until it is nice and warm and over 3500 rpm

I have been running a Jan 2003 S3 since 2005 with stage 2 tune, Milltek, Forge DV with no problems and the power is not far shy of 300bhp (or wasn't when we did all the work 70,000 miles ago :) )

No problems at all with engine or drivetrain until this MAF packed in recently not linked to tuning)

The only thing i did to improve longevity was to make sure it has a service every 10,000 miles rather than the variable service routine

Been driven hard too )

Hi so you got forge valve - full milltek - map yea who did your map buddy I keep looking on eBay trying to see if any cheap de cat's n down pipes are going here are a lot of cheaper ones not sure weather to get a 3" cheaper one the cat back milltek or get a milltek de cat back then wait for a down pipe to come up and get a stage 2 as l will have the badger 5 tip then aswell and hopefully a fmic still I. Big debate which one to get :/ cheers con and has your been rolling roaded , bit of topic was surprised how good they are on top end mine as stated just has panel forge valve n map n I had 150 n was still goin for a Quattro I was quite surprised to be honest (obviously on private land) :)

330968108633 found this down pipe and de-cat on eBay anyone used one before ? Thinking this to a milltek cat back ?

261155508934 that was the cooler I was looking at and a lot have been bought so now either that or the one above that Matt said about

My post was ignored, and you opted to listen to a guy who had his car 'tuned' back in the 18th century who thinks he has a stage 2 with only a miltek 007p and 300hp.

Good luck...

I'd be suprised if you netted 250 on proper rollers. This is the best thread I have read in ages!

All I'd say is that if your constantly looking for everything to be cheap then you seriously have the wrong car, it all costs more than a lot of comparative cars and if your going to do it, do it once and do it right. Go big or go home and all that ;)

Yea I noticed proper parts are not cheap aha , I will properly end up gettin proper stuff just thought no harm in looking and if some kits / parts do the same job it's a win win situation save a bit and still gain some stuff iv just gone straight to proper parts eg tip but as there are so many different fmic and exhaust systems I was just see what is to offer really sorry if anyone getting annoyed for any reason but way I look at it this forum is for people to help each other so if someone saying would this be good if someone only uses branded parts then that's up to them. As said I am very pleased for all inputs there all helpfull and I'm air either user's scroll through and I'f maybe they can get for example a fmic kit for £350 ish that's as good as a £800+ forge then that's just saved £500 so that's how I look at stuff . DON'T KNOW UNTILL YOU ASK ! But thanks again everyone :)

That's one car I wanna go in -westy's! Love to see the difference! I thought mine was quick, that must be pretty mental!
