Retrofit ISOFIX B8 8K Audi

Hi All,

I have been searching the regular forums for the last few days and can't find the answer I am looking for.

Question: Can you retrofit ISOFIX to an Audi A4 B8 8K Avant?

What I know is that it can easily be done on the B6 and B7, I read a fair few posts on this and how it is simply attach a bracket and two bolts, job done. I read on one of the posts that with the B8, they have introduced smart looking mounting points with plastic trim brackets and cut outs in the seat to make it look nice (Because that is exactly what the consumer wants...). I found a new rear seat on ebay with the same trim, but including the cut-out locations and plastic trim brackets, I asked the seller if this comes with the ISO brackets, but the seller said currently not as they thought the ISOFIX bracket was welded to the chassis. This makes no sense to me, as it will limit Audi in there aftermarket sales and it would mean that if there is a defect in the ISOFIX itself, then there is no way of changing it.

So to elaborate on my previous question:

1. Can I do it?
2. If so, do I need to change the rear seat, or just buy the bracket and fixings (Even if it is from Audi)
3. If I need to change the seat, should the ISOFIX come with it, or have Audi really welded the ISOFIX to the chassis?

I am sure there are other people wondering the same thing.

Yes it can be done, i have done it myself.
No brackets are needed, they are allreday installed from factory.
All you need is to buy the plastic inserts and then you can cut holes in your seat for them.
Seems drastical but it is very easy. Just start small and work your way out until the plastic inserts fit.
All in all its an 45 min job.

It helps to use a piture as a reference where to cut. And use a really sharp knife!
I found cutting the hole in the shape of a H works best.

Thanks so much for the information and it's actually no problem with the German, as I am an ex-pat living in Germany anyway.

Just to confirm, are you saying that the isofix bars are there, but in effect inside the material?

I will read the German post now.

That's exactly the same the Cmax needed for my missus last year, seems manufacturers are burying isofix into seats now if not requested on build, should the retrofit be needed, instead of the additional metal bracket bolted in place, good idea, unless you cut in the wrong place lol.

ETKA doesn't show the isofix as a separate part so must be welded at factory, so just remove rear base & check for the bars, you could feel down the back probably.

Correct!

I was at two dealerships to ask what to do and they did not know anything about what takes to have it installed.
Just get the parts and install yourself. All i did was use a picture if a car with isofix as a reference and cut a small horisontal hole so you can put your finger in and feel the bar. Then continue to make the hole bigger and adjust. Dont make the hole to big I did not even remove the seat from the car.

Apologies for the late reply, I have not been on my e-mail for a while. No isofix is not standard on Audi cars any more. It is a free option, but if you don't choose it, then you don't get it.

A status update on my side. Well I can't get isofix on the back seats. I lifted the seats as stated above and found that there was nothing there (Sorry No Photo's available). I then went to an Audi dealer, who looked into my specific configuration and said that the isofix bars had not been welded in when the car was made. He said this does happen.

He said it can't be retrofitted either, as the TUV (German MOT people) would not accept it. I know they are way more stringent than the English MOT people, so maybe it is still possible in the UK???

He did say however that a front seat isofix point is possible (Bolt in one like the previous models) and quoted me 150 euros. I will probably take this as an option, as my wife would like to have it when I am not around i.e. at work.

Hopefully this information is useful to someone else in the same position. Note to anyone buying a new Audi in the future, please when buying, order the free isofix, make the next buyer happy

That's strange coz in my B6 S4 you could retrofit. It was a bar that bolted in place.

Rankzer, did you not remove the seat base cover to see the seat frame & if this has the bars included as that's what others have done.

Just off the phone, ordered a set of 4, £14.00. Where can you get them for £4-5 offpist?, I'll cancel order if I can get them cheaper elsewhere, especially with a tenner difference.
I ordered from local Audi dealer.

Yes I fully removed the seat base cover to reveal the seat frame. There is 100% definitely no ISOFIX bar fitted.

Prior to the B8 model, it was easy to retrofit an ISOFIX bar with as you stated a bolt in bar. This was changed for what ever reason on the B8, it is now welded to the chassis.
