Lumpy tick over & smoking on Idle....Please help!!!

Hi All,
Any help here would be greatly appreciated!
I have the above problems with my A4 170TDI SE S Line Avant,& im totally at my wits end!!!!
Basically the car is lumpy on tick over & is fairly smoky too,its been in to a local garage (Lexus) who said they changed the MAF sensor & please see below what Teesside Audi have done,but i went to pick up the car from the Lexus garage & its still the same!!
I now have the paperwork from Independent garage,who sent the car to Teesside Audi....basically they have changed the EGR valve & put in a new intake manifold vacuum unit....they then ran up the engine road tested & checked it & stated it was ok.
I went to pick up the car from the garage who sent it to Audi & basically it is just the same!!...very rich smell & quite smoky like the first video thats in this thread.....surely you would think Audi technicians would have noticed this on tick over!.....very lumpy at just under 1000rpm & smoking like it is!!!...like i said im totally at my wits end now,Independent garage have dropped car back off with Teesside Audi & im going in first thing in the morning to basically start it up in front of Audi technicians & see what they say about it & basically ask ''can they rectify it or not'' & hopefully get it sorted!....i will be mentioning re coding the injectors & checking the cam belt alignment like it suggests in this thread,but if anyone has any more suggestions i can ask them to check,then please help.

I had the same issue, changed the coolant temp sensor and fingers crossed it seems to have cured it, but time will tell.

Scott kindly ran a diagnostic yesterday at AITP for me and found the CTS faulty, but I'm guessing that because it was reset after changing it though, but defo seems to have cured it. Good luck fella hope it works .

Hi Again all,
Just got back from Audi & sods law couldnt replicate the lumy tick over & excess exhaust smoke & fumes!!!!...car seemed to be running ok,went for a test drive with Audi Technician.
Explained to him about the Cooling temp sensor & in a way he did agree with me about it,as it was absolutely boiling hot weather when i went to pick the car up & it was smoking & juddering like it was on saturday,obviously todays temp is nowhere near as warm & windy too,but they are going to try & keep checking while the ambient temperature changes,but as stated above there is a good chance its the Coolant temp sensor operating out of range intermittently.......Ive asked them to change it anyway as the car is still under the sales warranty.....I will keep the post updated as i go.

They are also going to check to see if Lexus did change the MAF sensor as well as,i didnt recieve any sort of paperwork that they had done this....Im hoping it is the CTS though & at least i can get my car back....its been in the garage more than ive actually drove the ****** thing!

Your not wrong there Mac!!...its my 4th Audi over the last 15 years,
Ive previously owned 2 A2s...1 petrol & 1 diesel
& another A4 1.9Tdi saloon on a 54plate....Im taking that was a B6 then,to be honest all 3 previous cars over the years only had tyres changed!!..not one problem with them,thats why i went back to chose another Audi!!!!...but i will keep the post updated,as im sure there is someone out there who will at some point have the same problems both you & I have experienced,& will do anything to help anyone out if i can.....Im just hoping it is the CTS Mac.
