Reesy's Big Turbo A3

Nothing to report really, other then the fact that I finally got to take jay out for a blast in the car. Every time we meet the car seemed to be broken so at least that wasn't the case..

Managed to show him the LCR brembos work and to show him how much Quattro is a winner.

I agree it was finally good to see the car working as it should. Very quick pickup, with the boost surges its perfect for hill climb roads! Can't wait to see what it's like when mapped. Brakes weren't too shabby, smelt like burnt treacle haha... Tyre squeal ftw!

Met up with dan today and finally got a map on the car that feels like it might actually be made for it..

297 g/s at 6000rpm, with tr redline currently set at 6800 due to fuelling, or lack of it.. Car needs a fuel pump, so I'll get one end of next month I think, for now the adjustable map is set for about 23psi which seems to low enough for the car to fuel at the top end as it should. Still making over 330bhp which is adequate really..

Mani to turbo gasket needs changing as its rattling like mad, some time in a couple of weeks the mani will be held in using m10's rather then m8's to try and aid the issue its having.

Anti lag and no lift shift probably haven't helped, both of which are very loud and the latter one is very addictive.

another thanks to dan, and being able to use him emulator means that changed can be made out on the road which saves a lot of time...

Plus we tamed if not got rid of the nasty surge the eBay turbo seemed to like.. Needs a larger maf as well I think..

Awesome work. Be interested to see how she drives now Chris. Also when you change the fuel pump what sort of power do you think she will give?

Full of awesomeness.

Get a da-31 thrown inline for fueling.
Im putting m10s in my mani aswell. Need to ask you about the downpipe bolts aswell, will txt yow

Ok mate, I look forward to it..

Will you and the sportback be at Inters mr Rees?

Should be mate, assuming I haven't blown it up and / or crashed it.

Similar power, need to dyno it really but 370 bhp at 6000 rpm leaves some rpm to make a bit more...

Thread bump.

Car needs turbo - mani and turbo - downpipe gaskets. The plan is to change to M10 at the mani - turbo as the turbo keeps trying to break free, even at relatively low boost (20psi). I'll be ordering them this week, but in the mean time with the gasket rattling it sounds like an old 1.1 fiesta..

Got the car M.O.T'd yesterday and all was good, stuck a cat on it as the various avenues I tried came up with nothing, and it flew through which is always nice.
Went to the South East meet last night, good to meet up with some familiar faces and some new ones, even if they do attract the police.. Sprung a fairly hefty cooland leak as we pulled up at the meet that was going on after the Audi one, luckily after a Jane Fonda along looking at the cars and the pier, Ben was on hand to fix the issue.. Pipe had split, but luckily there was enough excess to slide it further up the metal joiner and get me home.

Couple of video's of flames and popping at the end of the night. Quite exciting for a 5 door!

Got to love a bit of flame action- the sound of your anti-lag was crazy.

Nice to meet you and see the king of mods as well! So many mods the coolant pipe split! Haha

Sooo, not much to report really. Ben changed out the gasket about 10 hours before I needed to set off for inters, this is what we found:

Put it all back together and the car was so much quieter..

Plodded up to inters, more then a handful of trips up to over 100 but mainly sat between 70 and 80 returned this:

So I was reasonably happy..

Took Karl out in it, just a shame it wasn't at full power, and he giggled like a child.

Downside to a weekend of anti-lag and NLS? The broken gasket situation reared it's ugly head again. Doesn't seem to have got much worse since, so i think it's just the two that are causing the issue.

Got convinced to stay at inters, here was my uber comfy bed:

Drove back with Stacey and made decent time, until I got to the M25. 30+ degrees, stationary traffic and no air con meant I was not too comfortable.

Coolant pipe went that evening, but at the other end. It's been replaced and will be replaced by a braided piece at some point soon. Left a nice stain in the tesco car park that's still showing proudly.

Replaced the front speakers with some upgraded ones on Saturday, sounds better already but need to fit the rears and some sort of stealthy sub/amp at some point.. Hoping that a better sound system for my crunkin' beats will slow me down.

You drive fast so that people only see a blur of denim blue! Now if you slow down you will need to wash it more often

Have to say this car certainly does shift and sounded lovely when you went past on the way back from inters :)

Sorry about some of poor direction skills my satnav hasnt benn updated for years and kept spakking out lol

Cheers Stacey. I thought it did, we definitely went the wrong way out of there but not to worry. I was nls from 5th to 6th at one point when I went past you, I don't think you'd have heard it over the wind noise though..

Gaskets still f**ked. I have an assortment on order that I'll change this weekend. Also have a look at some sort of support bracket for the turbo.

In my boot I have a few bits:

Poly trailing arm bushes
An Amp
5mm spacers
Maddie
15mm spacers
rear speaker adapters
Engine mounts
Double din head unit

This arrived today

Thanks Scott:thumbsup:. It'll require a fair amount of chopping to get it to fit, but at least then I can retire the MP3 tape setup I have at the minute.

Photo from the other day, around 1300 bhp here:

Also hit a pigeon a couple of mornings ago. I was doing around 90 km/h and it attempted to fly the same way I was driving, at a lot less then 90, bounced off the bonnet and onto the windscreen.

Not a problem mate. Free's up some space in my shed. :)

3 estates.
I might have put to much thought in to this but to me, going by the colour, its like a pair of jeans, t-shirt and flat cap............I need to get out more.

:lmfao: @ Maddie...

Most people buy a luggage net to stop everything getting thrown about in the boot

lmao 'maddie'

have you tapped the mani for m10 studs yet lad?

p.s.... when can i have her back?

Nope. I need the car at the moment so can't really justify the time to do it..

Never, she's mine now. I paid you £5 for her..

It was cheaper for Reesy to take Maddie home and keep her in the boot.

Yeah, you should see her smile when I use the NLS.

I prefer the green to the blue.

Jason, you're accepting car colour complements from a man with a burgundy Audi 80.

Go gasketless dude... I have been ever since the first failure I had of one of these....

That's something I might look into if this happens again.. Going to attach some sort of support bracket in the next week or so and see if that makes a difference, as well as stopping the anti lag and no lift shift which seems to do the most damage..

Gasketless means one less thing to go wrong I guess.

M10 studs ftw. With copper nuts. Then punch the threads above the nut.
Give it a windmill to finish it all off

Sticking with what i've got plus loctite and a support bracket.

In hindsight M10 was the way forward.

daft question, but what's involved in going gasketless?

Literally just bolt it all up without a gasket? or some sort of surface matching to make it work?

I'd imagine that machining to make sure both surfaces are flat would be a minimum. I can't see the eBay turbo being spot on personally..

1 week, 2 NLS's and a couple of slightly loose bolts. Bracket yet to be made, but the gasket holds up a lot better when it's only subjected to boost.

All this gasket changing sounds like a major pain! Good job you don't have to change it each time :ninja:

I still don't have a support bracket for my K04.... well, I do, but it wouldn't fit so it's sitting on a shelf in my garage. When I need to fit a new mani I'll make sure the thing gets fitted.

only subjected to boost.
this is boring though
