2006 avant brake disc sizes

Hi all
Been emailing Mtec regarding a new set of discs a pads for my 2006 2.0 TDI Avant. They are telling me there are two sizes of discs 288mm and 312mm before I remove the wheel to measure (which Mtec suggested) do anyone know which diameter is the correct one for the mentioned car?,

Hi.your best bet is to take wheel of and measure the discs to be honest.
or try to give call to your local Audi dealership with your chassis number,maybe they can tell you which of the two sizes mentioned is Yours.

If its the 140bhp one you have, it'll most likely be the 288mm disc. Suspect the 312 is for the Quattro or the 170 perhaps.

You're probably best to check to be sure though cos i'm only talking from my experience of my car.

You get a similar headache with the rears in that it could be a few sizes for those too!!

Mine is the 170.. So you'd say it's best to remove the wheel a measure to be sure?

Yeah mate, i'd reckon so - best to make sure.

Whap a wheel off and check. Its not necessarily the easiest thing to measure accurately while its on the car, but you should be able to tell close enough whether its 288 or 312.

I found it easiest with the help of a mate - we held a couple of bits of welding rod across the top and bottom of the disc and measured the distance between the two rods. That way the centre of the disc doesnt get in the way

I had the same issue but measured my 170 discs whilst I had the chance when fitting my coils and they were indeed 312mm

There should be a data sticker either in your spare wheel well or in your service log book ...

For instance my car has a PR code of 1LG for front and 1KD for rear ...

Next post your PR code and I'll tell you size or you go on say eurocarparts site and enter number plate and cross ref the PR code in the suggested disc's and you will have your size from the specs there ...

Will the 170 312 front discs and calipers be ok to use on a 140 2005 a4? without having to fit anything else.
I have 19's and the 288 looks slightly small lol....

Tuffy - i had 312mm discs on mine before the upgrade. The disc bells had vent holes in them. Running 321mm set up with allow calipers and greenstuff pads, MUCH better stopping power now

288mm system have PR code 1LB , 1LE is by ATE
312mm system have PR code 1LT , 1LF is by ATE

So they share same tandem brake master cylinder, brake servo , regardless of engine ...
