2013 Audi S3

Amazing really - the car has the same physical parts and trims but instead of the shiny bits to replace with the black (which with the right paint will look good) they charge you extra! surely it should be a no cost option!

You are quite right - why should they cost more, it 'should' be a no cost option.

But as noted, Audi know we will pay for this option.

I opted for the black edition on my '5' order in the end as I preferred the black over the chrome, particularly on the window surrounds.

Great color choice! :hi:

Cheers bjorngra! It was your and mhoutman's photos which confirmed I was making the right decision.

Not easy ordering a new car without ever having seen one in the colour I wanted...

Monsoon is certainly a unique & rarer colour.

Ok mine is ordered and i'm delighted, can't wait for it.

I ordered it in Estoril blue and manual, pretty much full option minus the sunroof and the magnetic ride.

Will get it in January '14.

Looks like Audi are gonna need a lot of estoril blue paint

I've gone for estoril blue too ...... we all have such good taste ...... and its a superb new colour and 'S' exclusive !

I'll be part of the Estoril blue club as well come November

S3 Sportback manual confirmed build week 39. Fingers crossed for no slippage on dates. It apparently will be the first 8V S3 SB for Wimbledon Audi so they seem pretty keen to make sure it turns up on time as well!

Went through BetterCarDeal as recommended by forum users (Cheers all!) and ended up pulling the trigger with 7% off list. Managed to avoid ticking everything on the options list, but still have a healthy spec.

Is it too soon to begin a countdown now?

So with all this talk of build weeks changing (for the better and the worse it seems), I emailed my dealer in Nottingham and got a reply today saying I'm now on for week 39; which is 2 weeks better than previously quoted! :D

Who are you dealing with at Nottingham? I'm getting mine through them as well. My build week hasn't changed though :(

Dealing with a young lady called Mair Price. Sent her an email yesterday to check if it was still on for week 41, and was pleasantly surprised by today's reply!

When'd you order your s3? Mine was 24 June I think...

Mines an A3 - ordered on 18th May from Sajid Mian

ahh, you threw me by posting in the S3 thread! :) Maybe I should actually have read your signature!

I think this change of build date seems to be something specific to the S3; a lot of people got build week 41 moved to 39, which is still a 4/5 month wait from original order time for a lot of people - I think you'll have yours a long time before me!

Doesn't your signature say you had week 36 moved to week 33 already?

Yeh, that was a while ago though :p

I'm happy to say my s3 has been built :) it's sat all alone in Germany though. Hope they are looking after it well ;)

Congrats!!! We'll be awaiting your feelings about the car and pix of the car once you get it :).

Does anybody have any advice for long term performance Audi ownership?

My advice would be to ensure you get the extended warranty. They're pretty expensive when they go wrong!

That's one of the first I think. We like to see the pictures. When do you expect the car in your own garage? :eyebrows: Which color?

Nice to hear! I doubted between Gletscher white and Misano red. It's almost the same as the one I photographed. Except the super sportseats, panoroof en privacy glass and of course LED headlights.

What's the build week of your car? Mine is pushed forward 1 week to week 40.

Interesting write up... So Mr. Barry from Car Magazine would take a performance pack Golf GTI over an S3 mostly based on price (£3740 difference) and it being a bit more agile due to lower weight. But he would miss the torque, interior quality and the engine sound track.

Compared to previous S3's and maybe even the RS3, it seems the gap to the GTI has narrowed. Now if only Audi changed the S-Tronic to not automatically up/down shift in dynamic mode and gave a bit more feel around the straight ahead in the steering, it would apparently be top of the pile. I guess the next RS3 has something to aim for...

To be honest it is most likely looking like 1st September. The dealer is saying it should be shipped this week but I think I should put my sensible hat on and wait for the new plate.

Wish i never stumbled into this part of the forums now, im seriously considering ordering a new s3 sportback instead of an s5 now. Really liking the look of them and after watching a couple of videos on youtube i think im in love.

Obviously its too early to really tell but do you think the engine will be more open to tuning than the 3.0v6 in the s5, im thinking with a map this new s3 will be close if not quicker than the current rs3 no?

Have to wait for the fully fledged black edition though, anyone hazard a guess how long that will be?

I was edging towards misano (or brilliant) red. Glacier white looks amazing but is becoming very common on Audis and I had a white car which was a nightmare to keep clean!

Expecting last week in September whichever build week that is...awaiting an update in two weeks (fingers crossed).

Anyone ordering their S3 without Mag ride, and just sticking with Passive dampers?

Would be nice to have a review on which is best. I have Mag ride on my R8, but the new R8 V10 Plus has passive only. I think I honestly prefer a passive set-up. Too much selection.

if it is anything like the mag ride on my TTS you are better off without it IMO !

Had regular suspension on my 2008 TT with 19" rims and that rode just right.

Same 19" wheels with the TTS and the ride is rock hard, even in standard.
I have selected sports mode a handful of times, as it makes the car beyond rigid and just way too jittery.
Absolutely useless for UK roads - I am sure it would be amazing / perfect for track driving or going round the Nurburgring.
But I don't ever do that, so it is always left im standard mode.
Thankfully, it was included in the price of the TTS so no big deal.
If I had lashed out £1,000 which is what Audi wanted for it to be fitted to the standard TT, I would have been gutted.

I will always stick with regular sports suspension now - having sampled mag ride for 3 years first hand.

Diito that re mag ride - have it on my RS and don't like it one bit. The handling is inconsistent and on a damp (not totally wet) road, the car feels quite twitchy. Then you put it in sport mode and all that does is make the car uncomfortable! It doesn't corner any better - I had a track day with it and proved that one!

DO NOT agree about the 19" wheels. Got them on my TT and the ride is just fine if left out of sport mode. Plenty of similar feedback on the TT Forum if you visit that site.

I need to change my battlewagon early next year and an S3 Sportback looks like where I will put my money. Already got a Porsche Cayman S on order to replace my TT RS - Imola Yellow - just thinking about it gives me a semi! LOL! I'm still a bit unsure about the S3 as having now driven one, there were a few issues, especially the lack of thigh support in the bucket seats. Maybe the standard sports seats will be better? I've talked my local Audi dealer to let me have their S3 demonstrator for an extended test drive, when it arrives in a few weeks. Not happy that some of the better S3 colours are not available either. The new car looks even more plain than the last one! I previously had an S3 sportback, ibis white, black alloys, privacy glass and black styling pack - now that did look the biz. Sorry chaps but I do get why a lot of you want the S3 as it doesn't shout about itself, but if I spending nearly £38k on a performance car, I do at least want something that stands out from a base model with an S line package...

19" rims with mag ride in standard mode imo is on the limit of what is acceptable.
I have speed humps on my estate and I was surprised how much firmer the TTS ride is.
Didn't mean to suggest the ride is not ok with 19's and mag - merely to say that is mag ride sport mode it IS not suited to general road use and it is NOT something that I would pay £1k for over regular lowered sports suspension.
I have driven a TTS with 18" alloys and you can tell the difference- it was a bit more supple / compliant over bumps and bad roads but I just like the look of 19" rims so am prepared to go for a 'slightly' compromised ride vs enhanced looks / stance.

I never knew the base s-line had quad exhaust pipes an aluminium s3 style front grill and s3 style alloys?

I does stand out, maybe not enough to you but as you said it's enough for most people that have actually ordered the car, such as myself.

Having ordered it and been to look at the car I ordered ready to pick up next week I can say it is exactly what I want in a car, it stands out enough without being over the top. I'm truly excited and have not been disappointed in any way and I know I won't be after I collect it.

Do you have any pics of the car?

Unfortunately not, it was still all wrapped up so it's going to have to wait until I get it during the week.

Ive managed to get a good deal on a new S3 but just a little worried having not driven one or seen one in the flesh

Yer I was too, I kinda took the gamble of I like the look of the a3, then looking at pics to see the changes they have made.

I'd driven the old s3 a few times so surely they can only make it better (I hope) plus reviews are good

So I don't think there is too much to worry about. Ill let you know next week if it ever comes!

Good to hear that you got a discount, doesn't sound like there is many deals out there.

S3 Sportback, Estoril Blue, Aluminium grill, Chrome window surrounds, Black of Aluminium roof rails...i'm thinking black for the subtle look or as many google images of the red sportback which wears the aluminium rails? any thoughts?

great pics Bjorn! what is your opinion then on what colour rails to have with the aluminium grill and chrome window surrounds?

Bjorn and I have seen the same car: chrome definitely :)

btw Estoril is a fascinating color. The influence of light is amazing !
