MIGGZ's A3 1.8t - The all rounder build thread

Hi Miggz, awesome thread. I am pretty much the same, a complete D.I.Y person. Did the Single mass flywheel make a major difference in the transfer of power characterstic of the car?

Hi guy! Thanks my bud.
it does feel more responsive and like it can handle a bit more then the oem setup launching the car hard off the line has improved even when dragging the clutch out for more traction

Oh cool, i am looking for that more direct feel, after reading in various forums people had just merely spoken abt the vr6 flywheel system, never really had any feedback from someone that had swopped out the DMF for a SMF. When are you crossing over to the ko4 World? :D I had my Ko3s max out at 176 wkw and 352Nm(FMIC/DP/MBC/CAI), here at the coast. Before coming across a written of s3 where i borrow a few parts from:p

VALEO make a kit for our cars at goldwagen very easy and simple and direct bolt on!
im not to sure yet on when im going the k04 route as of yet had some issues with my car this weekend will post up just now

so had an awesome weekend...... not so much!

had a auto cross event on sunday and on thursday i started to prep my car!

Put my semis on the spare rims i got and the tyre place did not tell me how screwed up they were. Took the car out and boom, vibrations for days! jacked the car up and the rims are buckled badly so that was how it started and went all down hill from there.....

Changed my wheels back to the 18s, on friday morning on the way to work my car started acting up, i can hear a hissing noise which sounds like a boost leak and my car went into limp mode twice.

these were the codes:

16825 - evap emission cont sys - incorrect flow
P0411

16622 - manifold pressure / boost sensor (G31) signal too high
P0238 intermittent

16490 - manifold / barometric pressure sensor (G71) / (F96) implausible signal
P0106

ran vaccume log and could see there was a issue. looked at evap an the pipe had broken off so fixed that.
then my mate Rory had a spare map sensor so picked that up from him saturday night ( thanks dude)

Went to the auto cross event anyway on sunday as i was doing the le mans go-kart event, but what a stuff up to drive there had to pull off 4 times on the highway to reset my car and eventually just unplugged maf and limped to the track!

Ash then helped me strip off the bumper and help change the MAP sensor quick, car felt better and did not go into limp mode but still sounds like im losing boost and under powered. (thanks for helping dude)

so tonight iv decided im going to replace all the vac lines and stip off all the boost pipes and go thru them and the silicone hoses to.

unlucky mate, guess it sort of runined the event for you. nevermind.

once these little annoying bit are sorted you be back full boosting in no time!

yeah dude was lank upset! but i did pretty well with the le mans go karting, 1st time on a track with a go kart and 1st time on that track and i was doing 1:01.273 min constant on a lap and a professional go - kart racer does 1min flat in those karts so that was my highlight lol

also i might be having a sump compression issue to top it off lol

Really hope you manage to come right dude! my favourite 8l needs to be tip top again soon.

Ps. Im glad that the map sensor helped!

Bad luck bud... Doesn't sound too major just a lot of effort changing all the vac pipes out and inspecting the boost pipes... Hope you get it sorted soon bud! Also hope the sump compression isn't anything major either...

All the best in getting it all 100% again!

thanks my boy!!!!

Car is sorted now, found a leak by map sensor and boost pipe by turbo was not fitted properly.

removed all the boost pipes, cleaned them checked and resealed them all, then replaced all the vac lines with new silicone ones and what a difference this car feels stronger then before! boosting 1.7bar again and holding just over 1bar till 6000rpm. G/S has also increased by nearly 8g/s over last log and feels amazing

You do know why it takes so long hey!

Each worker at the post office needs to inspect each parcel, to see if there is anything he needs or can sell. They also work at the airport as a second job "inspecting" baggage :)

some nice cracks in that turbine housing...
just the one that goes from turbine, to wastegate, and can be seen right round into the wastegate aperture.

That turbo saw 150k miles, at no more than 1bar boost.
No original housing is 100% crack free.
It was sold as in need of bearings, so price reflected that, then i found the crack, and it was made clear with miggz before any money was handed over, at an even more reduced price.

That is 100% true karl did tell me about the crack and sent a picture then asked if I was sure I wanted it. Karl was very honest and I appreciated that a lot!
