Going to do my gearbox oil tomorrow, has anyone got a picture of the drain out plug and fill plug. Can't find them anywhereon the net. Cheers

That's brilliant man thanks, hopefully it solves my slightly sloppy changes. If not could be the linkages or the gear selector.

Assuming you have an S3 (from your username) then don't forget the transfer box drain plug which is to the rear of the transfer box as you look at the inner CV joint...

Early 02M boxes use a 17mm 'allen key' plug rather than the multi-point security type... before draining the oil check you can undo the fill plug first... have seen fill plugs round off after draining the oil...

Gearbox oil also needs to be GL-4 spec too as GL-5 spec can damage syncros

Did my gearbox oil yesterday including the Bevel Box (magnetic plug was just like in the link above)

car feels a lot better and gear changes a lot smoother :)

Did you box feel slightly notchy before you changed the oil ? I still haven't done my yet, my power steering cooler pipe started leaking so had to find the tiny pin hole and patch it up. Good as new now.

Gearbox oil is the worst lol... hangs at the back of your throat and you can taste it for ages after... lol

haha I know, my mate has an MR2 and is always blowing driveshafts so the smell of gearbox oil sticks with me all week. Horrid stuff.

Yes it did and sometimes felt I needed to be a bit more forceful in some gear changes... all good now :D

My mechanic didn’t believe me when I said about the Bevel box... when he drained it and looked at the magnetic plug he couldn’t believe it... especially as its not on Audi’s service maintenance...
