Hi All

After abit of help/advice. Ive got my map booked in for a Revo stage 2 map and really excited to get it done, just a little bit worried i might be disappointed as people are saying they think my car is already mapped.

As they say it pulls alot harder then a standard S3/smooth drive and no EML light from the exhaust.

Mods i have:

Revo air intake
Milltek TBE
Loba stage 2 clutch
Forge Quick shifter
shifter bushes

Could this be the case or could the mods mention above factor in the way my car is acting.

Any advice would be great :)

Cheers Jonse

if someone else has put those mods on....then it's bound to be mapped!

when i fitted milltek TBE i already had intake but didn't have remap. there was no EML lights or whatsoever. the car felt slightly better with those parts.

Got to agree.

With that parts list, there would be no point in having them if it wasn't mapped, and you've basically confirmed it by saying it goes a lot better than a stock car.

I would be inclined to agree also that the car is also mapped if those mods are in place- who did you buy it from?

Also, Stage 2 map is a waste of time IMO. At that level of tuning you need the high pressure fuel pump and Revo will recommend the RS4 fuel valve regulator (£40 or so) to go to Stage 2+.

If you stay at stage 2, the car will miss fire, you will go through coil packs and you will not be getting the full benefit of the mods.

Get the car tested on a live run on vagcom/VCDS to see what results you get.

Ive never seen a misfire in 20k, never had a coil pack and I run decent proven power reliably, without so much of a thought about my cam follower exploding and ruining cams and fuel pumps.

Almost a death wish going stage 2+ these days with the unreliability of Autotech internals.

So many horror stories it's scary! A new cam follower doesn't mean you're safe AT ALL.

Yes some get away with it for a long time, in time you may be running the end of the Autotech internals on the cam and it'll be sharp as a knife!

Seen it first hand 3 times now.

To be fair to Autotech it's not their fault actually, it's the poor cam followers that can't hack the job.

Hi Guys

Sorry i didnt state in the first comment.

I have fitted all the mods to my car. Since buying it last November. I would go stage 2+ but dont have an extra £400 right now to get the internals.

Just do a boost log then.

I think it's around 14 psi for standard and around 23psi (for me) at stage 1/2.

Then to be fair,it's not Autotech as you've said,it's the cam followers.

So the solution lies not with them, but the quality of the followers......

Being fair,I've used an Autotech pump for around 40 000 miles, and whilst I may be one of the lucky ones by your inference,it's down to regular cam follower changes.

One might expect the HPFP and follower in mine to be under rather more load than a Stg2+ car......there is also an alternative in the form of the Loba and APR pumps,if people are that worried about Autotech.

Yes exactly Alex, it's the cam followers at fault.

In my opinion, Autotech should supply an uprated follower when buying their internals. I mean it's a tiny little dish for god sake, surely there's gotta be a hardcore mean version.

Potentially turns going stage2+ into a very expensive game otherwise.

In northern Ireland we only have 97 ron fuel so maybe that was the reason for the missfires at stage 2.

I have had my autotech internals in for 2 years without a hint of bother - I change my cam follower every other oil change to be on the safe side but none so far have shown any signs of wear.

Some work great, some don't, so it would suggest tolerances are quite fine, maybe the severity of the map doesn't help, or the unclinical area of which the pump was built in perhaps.

Eitherway, I'm a little apprehensive about going next step.

Go look at the Loba's fuel pump - they sell a complete unit along with a cam follower.

As long as you change the follower every 8-10k or even 5k if you are fussy, there should be no issues to be concerned with.

There are a couple of followers around and the general rule is to inspect every 5000-10 000 miles to be sure.

It's not an Autotech issue its the companies making the followers.

Would the mods i have help the guy drive and pull better?

Is there an easy way to tell if it was mapped or do i just have to wait until its dyno'd?

Thanks

If you have any friends with vagcom you can roughly workout the BHP by monitoring the air flow then multiplying it by 1.2 which will give you an estimated bhp but I am unsure what gateway is to be used for this.

Best sticking it on the dyno and just see what you have.

If the car isn't mapped, you may have around 280bhp.

If the car is mapped then you would have anything from 310 - 340 depending on what stage the map is.

I'm a little concerned about all this talk of followers... My car's standard, going Stage 1 today, will the follower cause me grief soon then?!

For the sake of approx a 25 quid part I would change it.

i've heard of even stock engines failing due to cam follower wear.
it's not autotech's fauls, it's a fuel pump after all same as loba and apr. it's a bad fueling system design. change the cam follower as it was said every 10 000km's and you'll be safe. nobody at audi garage does it, and they don't even mention to owners about cam follower wear and issues caused by that, and that's really not ok from them.

there are kmd uprated followers but they cost like 4 oem ones and i doubt they last 40000 km's.

h2sports seems to make a solution. cam follower roller :D
H2Sport Fuel Pump Upgrade. A life-time solution to follower, cam and fuel-pump damage caused by lobe wear.

On stage one I wouldn't be too worried about the cam follower - plenty of stage 1 owners on here and everywhere wouldn't be able to tell you what they are lol

It seems only when you change the HPFP or just the internals that they can give bother but as said, for the sake of £25-30, change it every oil service! It is a 15 minute job.

My car's a 12-plate, 9k miles, and on a PCP with Audi. So I'll have a think about how to approach it!

hmmm just noticed this stuff about cam follower, ive done over 12k miles in a year in my car and got it remapped last week so interested in this now, reckon i should change mine (everything in bad is stock) and is it a job you could easily do at home?

Must say that i have been in Jonse's S3 and it is quite interesting how well it performs and pulls against an Audi S5 (especially on corners ;) )

In regards to the S3 taking on the TDi - i think i had him......until the black smoke cleared :)

Cannot wait for the Stage 2+ Jonse! Make me proud.....and happy birthday Tuesday MATE!

it's incredible how stage 2+ s3 goes against most cars, and even "supercars"...

It is....and quite frustrating for owners of those.
