2013 Audi S3

The car was an S-Tronic with, as far as I could tell, all of the toys.

If you listen carefully to the video, you might be able to hear quite a pronounced noise - it certainly wasn't silent.

Ok thanks for that ! :)

Opinions wanted...

IF i went with Sepang Blue, should i also spec Privacy Glass?

TBH i'm not sure i can justify the £1500 extra-over Misano Red, as it buys a lot of other equipment.

The privacy glass looks great, against sepang it would look

Thanks Snake - like a lot of others i'm tryinng to stay within a budget, so the options do add up, may have to leave this on and drop front parking sensors...

Does anyone think the Silver Leather would look good in combination with the Sepang Blue? What Seat options are people generally spec'ing?

further observations of the new S3, apologies if already mentioned in the previous 16 pages, no black styling pack option, no big accelerator pedal, no bucket seats. Perhaps Audi are trying to further the gap between S models and RS models? This S3 seems more like a S line, any thoughts anyone?

Black styling pack was available on 8P S-Line but not at launch. I bought my 8P S3 in January 2008 and don't remember it being in the option list. I think this will follow. The BE was closer to the S3 than the current S-Line is. Accelerator is different in all 8V cars. My guess is that the seats may also make an entrance further down the line.

Audi have always trickled things in rather than offering everything at launch. It keeps people interested and also makes people feel they've got something different to the guy who ordered his 6 months ago!

In terms of the S-Line and S3 being very similar, that's the whole point. It's a sporty alternative for those who don't want the 'full fat' experience. A bit like the Golf GTi and GTD. Lots of people like the look, but don't need 300ps or the fuel consumption that goes with it.

Only got to look at the success of the M-Sport BMWs. Every sales rep is a wannabe M3 racer!

I like the whole subtle look thing and I am very happy with the way that the S3 blends into the range.

My previous car was an Alfa 147GTa - a car with a full body kit, aggressive looks and flared wheel arches - and in Alfa Red.
Every grotty youth with a maxed-out Clio or Corsa would drive about three inches from my bumper or try to have a race at the lights - very boring after a while (I was 35 when I sold it).

I have not had any such problem with my current S3 which is far more subtle - bliss!
The 8V S3 looks like continuing this trend which makes me happy - especially with the lack of front fog lights - a signature of a performance car since the '80s. Of course, people 'in the know' know and people that don't are probably going to be surprised.

buckets were available from initial launch of the 8P S3 back in 2006 if i recall? Super sports seats at half the price of the buckets would seem more of a justifiable option to potential buyers perhaps? Also, why get rid of the fogs? to me they give the whole front more presence.

Good point - hadn't noticed lack of fogs. However, I'd be happy to lose them on all cars. I haven't used them in years and get sick of flashing the 'max power' boys who think it looks cool in clear conditions.

I think you're right on the buckets. I seem to remember them being obscenely expensive. As I said, I reckon seat options will make an appearance a bit later to keep buyers happy.

I'm not sure 'presence' is what Audi wanted to achieve though. That'd be the VXR or ST range. I think the S3 is more about stealth. A case of "Oops, you thought I was a standard s-line... You missed it... I'm gone"

I know the buckets are expensive hittchy....i have them in my 62 plate S3 Sportback in Racing Blue Mica, black styling pack, BOSE, CD changer, electric door mirrors, etc etc, one of the last off the 8P production line so it came with the free RNSE with piano surround and piano b-pillars. Only done 600 miles since October....Sunday car.

could of waited but someone told me that there will always be new cars coming out and unless you have a lot of spare cash to facilitate always having the latest model i might as well buy when i can?

That is a stunning car. I love the colour. You're absolutely right - there's always something newer/shinier around the corner.

My S3 was probably my favourite car to date. The only reason I sold up was that 3 doors were playing havoc with my back as my toddler started gaining weight! It should have gone after 6 months but I held on for 18 months.

Now that said toddler is 7 years old, he wants another S3 or RS3. In two years when my 8V will be due a change it should be mature enough to have all options available and reasonable discounts.

Okay, as the title suggests, I'm having a, 'have I done the right thing', moment with regards to my colour choice.

Ordered the Estoril Blue, but have always liked the Daytona Grey, and having seen a few pics of SBs in this colour recently, am doubting myself.

First question; given that I have been quoted build week 41, do you think Audi would have a problem changing my order (if it comes to it), and do you think it would delay/change my order?

Secondly, what are people's opinions? :)

Planning on popping along to the dealer tomorrow with the missus, as I believe they have an 2012 S3 in Estoril, and an A5 in Daytona.

David

EDIT: meant to say that a large part of the appeal of the S3 is the non-showy nature (compared to a lot of performance cars), and wouldn't want to undermine that by getting too lairy a colour (not that I think Estoril is of course)

Silver leather looks great. I had it once but had to sit on a towel if I wore jeans to prevent dye transfer! It needs a lot more care than a darker colour.

Shouldn't be a problem to change in the next few weeks. It could affect build week, but could conceivably bring it forward. Doubt it will have a big effect in either direction though.

Secondly, what are people's opinions? :)

I think the Estoril is a bit more of an attention grabbing colour - although obviously not as much as say orange! Estoril is probably more demanding to keep it clean too, but when it is clean looks very nice. I don't think there is a wrong choice - except Beluga brown :p

There will not be an issue at all in changing your spec / colour if build week is 41 as that is ages away @ 7th October !

Estoril / Daytona and Misano were my top 3 colours and ALL look superb IMO.

Daytona is a superb colour and looks sharp and classy and is less 'showy' for sure, but still looks cool.

Estoril for sure has an element of 'flash' about it but again with it edging on being dark blue it is not ott.

Misano is probably the most 'look at me' with it standing out the most but looks so good and is a fantastic pearl red.

So yeah, daytona is certainly the most 'stealthy' if that is the look you are wanting, but it a great pearl grey for sure.

Audi do have some of the best colour choices IMO.
I say this as looking at the Merc A45 AMG recently their colour palette was absolutely diabolical and boring as **** !
Seriously, the Merc colours are terrible, bland and boring.

Thanks for that.....I was convinced I would order Estoril.....but Monsoon Grey looks awesome. I'm currently holding out for the S3 saloon/sedan but I'm fighting myself to justify the cost. I've tended to keep my cars for long 7 years / 3 years / 8 years / 3 years / and current car at 7 years.....never had anything upmarket....but the S3 Saloon ticks all my boxes and the justification would be that I keep it for 8 years.

Does anybody have any advice for long term performance Audi ownership?

My first post here :)

That movie was posted on YouTube by somebody I meet at the Dutch VAG importer Pon last saturday. The monsoon grey S3 just came in the day before from Germany and also had German specs.

It was not that busy so the Pon employees drove the S3 outside and we were able to see it in daylight. We also had the chance to drive it on the importer's area. It was awesome but of course it was too short.

I currently drive a Golf R but last week bought an Audi A3 Sportback 1.8 TFSI in night blue (Exclusive) and with almost all options. It will be built in week 45 and delivery will be next january. The S3 was also on my short list but due to my bad experience with "hot cars" I went for the 1.8. TFSI only.

PS as written previously, this particular S3 was in Monsoon grey with the S3 rims which are grey too. Well to my taste too dull, but I love these rims under Estoril :)

Gents,

Firstly, thanks a lot for everyone's input, it really gave me some good food for thought.

Went to see Audi yesterday afternoon to (hopefully) see the colours in the 'flesh', thinking I'd probably be changing it for Daytona to be honest, but was slightly disappointed on a few fronts...

To start with, they didn't have the 2012 Estoril S3 that I'd test driven a month back, or any others in that colour in stock, so the missus still hasn't seen it except for pictures, which is kind of a shame.

Secondly, and most surprisingly, they told me that Daytona Grey is not an option on the S3! They're not really sure why, but the sales man checked with his manager, and he agreed that it was not available. The configurator on Audi's sites (checked UK and DE) seem to agree with this; no Daytona option. I guess it's an S line only colour.

I guess that kinda makes my decision for me! Although I really like the Monsoon Grey in the videos that were posted, in person it's a little too pale/silvery for my taste.

BTW, they agreed that it would be no bother/delay if I were to change options/colours at this stage.

David

I am in the Netherlands but Daytona gray is a S-line exclusive color only. Yet you can always chose Daytona as part of the Audi exclusive paint program. Yet that will be expensive.

Probably, most S-lines are world wide sold in Daytona and as I wanted a special paint I ordered Nacht Blau (night blue). Just to remind you, exclusive colors will take another 4 more weeks production.

As I saw the Monsoon S3 with the grey S3 rims live, I felt the color itself is very nice indeed but the overall impression of the car became a bit too dull with the same colored rims. So here's a vote for the standard S3 (S line s parallel spoke rims).

But hey, what the heck, some people told me Night blue is dull too ;)

My only concern with a grey S3 would be the titanium grill and rear diffuser would blend into one. Would need to see decent pictures to see if it could work.

I have these and can send them too you or post them here. Please let me know what is convenient :)

Hi man, i think it makes more sense to post them all here.

We'd all like to benefit from any pictures or information we can. As a matter of fact that was the point of opening this thread in the first place. I'm sure everyone would agree.

Here you go Audi S3 Monsoon grey, German specs car at the Dutch VAG importer Pon

I think the monsoon grey with the S3 grill are a very good match. I was not fond of the mosoon car with the grey S3 rims: just too much grey which make the car IMHO too dull. I really prefer the all alloy silver S-line rims here :)

I upped the steering wheel picture to show the S3 exclusive steering wheel paddles. As I understand the S-line paddles are also in MY 2014 all black. What is bad about the S3 steering wheel is that it misses the perforation as in the s-line package and RS models. Non perforated steering wheels remain S exclusive :(

First post here goes...

Found this forum a couple of days ago during my 'order finalising' crisis. Interesting to see what others have ordered!

Had placed an order third week of June but wasn't totally fixed on spec. Called dealer today to finalise:

3-door manual in Monsoon Grey
5-parallel spoke alloys
Audi sound system
cruise control
mono.pur
hold assist
super sports seats
tech pack
through-load facility
interior light pack

Was wavering over the LEDs, but saw them in the flesh on a sedan yesterday and actually prefer the look of the xenons (controversial I know).

Comes to £34k and a bit all in. No massive discount as I ordered early on, but was happy with PX offered and still have option to sell privately. Build week late September apparently, so expecting car late October...

As well as the LED headlights the black styling pack is available on the UK configurator for £395. It includes:

- Radiator grille frame and radiator grille struts, window trims and console in the side grilles in high-gloss black
- Radiator grille, side air intake grilles and number plate holder in black matt
- Diffuser in platinum grey
- Door handles in body colour

Amazing really - the car has the same physical parts and trims but instead of the shiny bits to replace with the black (which with the right paint will look good) they charge you extra! surely it should be a no cost option!

Because they know people will pay for it, of course :p

The S3 I saw at Geneva Motor show had body coloured handles and scanning back through the pics on this thread - they too have have body coloured handles!

Yeh that confused me - pretty sure that applies across the range
