Car maintenance is my number one priority although every year this comes and ruins my life.

Here's previous problems:
oil leaks (which as explained to the garage was my recently cleaned engine dripping)
none adjustable lights (must of thought they were HID's as they had brighter bulbs and were cleaned both outside and inside, fully functioning adjuster on the dash too of course)

Had other problems but they all burn down to the car failing so garages can cash in on nothing, just wanted to know if anyone could recommend a no bullsh*t garage or test it themselves.

I always take mine to Martek in Oldbury, they are BMW and Audi specialists.

Always very fair and willing to discuss issues.

I use den caney in weoley castle. There is no re test fee and he doesnt do any mech work on cars so it is of no benefit to him to fail a car, so it only fails if its bad.

I used to use bartley green garage on jiggins lane...they always failed me for some silly little reason. They do it for the retest fee..£40 plus £20 retest fee if they dont do the work

Birmingham is the home of MOT, where are you taking your car? Lol
Local backdoor cowboys haha just used ones closest; KM Services and Regal Service Station, even the names sound like an instant fail looking back.

Sounds good, always better when they actually consult people about problems rather than write up a bill, not sure about having it checked by a specialist though might seek them out for other work.

Thought everywhere did free retests that's crazy, won't touch them now, cheers. Den Caney might be decent if they have no motivation to fail people. Was considering a council run MOT test station as they have no motivation to fail cars as they work on buses etc so any car work would have to be done elsewhere.

I always use College Autos in Stourbridge they aren't the cheapest garage around but genuine and very knowledgeable. Always have a few options from them if you want them to source recon parts etc. MOTs are fair they won't create problems that aren't but obviously won't pass you if it's not roadworthy!

Just had mine done at Audi Halesowen could not fault them

I have used many garages over the years and for a few years took my B reg Astra 1.6SR to the local Halfrauds.
Two years on the trot the car failed on headlamp alignment and I watched them both times and it took less than a minute, I am not even sure anything was altered. But it meant the car passed and that was all I was concerned with. The third year it failed on exhaust emissions. They adjusted it and it passed, big suprise.
Anyway took it home and had a look, The car had a carburettor and the only mixture adjustment was covered by a red plastic plug that was factory sealed. You had to break it to adjust the carb and guess what it was still 100% intact.
After that for many years took the car to the local Midland Red bus depot, they didn't do any repairs, just the MOT so weren't interested in getting extra work.
Now I take my car to Hawks Green MOT Test Centre - MOT & Servicing Cannock A dedicated MOT centre doing very little in the way of repairs £29.95 with a free retest and you can book on line. In the last 4-5 years I have taken my car and the wifes there and not had a fail on anything. One or two advisories on tyres and brakes but I already knew about these things.

Karl.
