Scientist banned from revealing codes used to start luxury cars

tbh the algorithm for this is already available online pretty freely.

"Volkswagen had asked the scientists to publish a redacted version of their paper – Dismantling Megamos Crypto: Wirelessly Lockpicking a Vehicle Immobiliser – without the codes, but they declined."

firstly, who pays scientists to come up w/ pointless, contentious cac like this? what next, a paper on how to hack through the NORAD nuclear launch codes?
secondly, WHY would they decline to redact the codes themselves if they're "responsible, legitimate academics"?

"They argued that "the public have a right to see weaknesses in security on which they rely exposed"." - oh yeah, very clever : a weakness that will be blasted open by publishing the codes.

bunch of *** morons.
