Just got a phone call from the garage, they said when they dropped the gearbox to get at the clutch and dual mass (what its in for), they drained the oil and found a lot of copper and metal in it from the synchro - seeing as the oil was only changed 3 weeks ago this isn't good news :(.

Anyone got any advice on what to do - recondition or new gearbox?

I have warrantydirect and this is going to go through in one big claim to them, at the moment it's Dual Mass, Crankshaft sensor and now Gearbox....

Synchro and selector wear are apparently known problems and were replaced on mine plus uprated bearings for around £800.

Basically a gearbox rebuild.

Where did you take yours, the garage don't want to do the rebuild as it's not there forte! This car is costing me more and more money :(

On the upside, I can get the uprated SACH clutch kit + Dual Mass Flywheel for £460 inc vat which seems very reasonable!

The clutch price seems unusually cheap, but if it's genuine.....

For information on mine, you'd have to call AMDTuning, who arranged the rebuild.

Eurocarparts - they have deals on at the moment!

A little update, my gearbox has been dropped and is being sent to milton keynes to a specialist there, hopefully paid for by warranty (as they're organising it)

Good news on both fronts then!

Well i'm waiting on a 100% confirmation but if all goes to plan they're footing a DMF + Clutch, Cranshaft Sensor and Rebuilt gearbox + labour!

So yeah, could be very good news

Fingers crossed then.....that's a lot of work, and if you can get it all covered it's a very good result.
