Finally took delivery of my car yesterday and managed to avoid the thunderstorms, thank goodness. Spent the rest of the day reading the manuals and trying to get to grips with all the vehicle systems. Long gone are the days when all that was necessary was to find the right seat position and set the mirrors! Lots of fun lies ahead getting to know to the car and today I have a 200 mile round trip to look forward too. Now which drive select programme do I want ..... choices, choices.

For all those waiting - the day will come, eventually. Have fun when it does but do allow time to read those manauls and play with the vehicle systems to ensure you are to ready to get the best out of the car. There are an amazing number of settings/options which can be tweaked.

I'm spending more time these days on this forum and other A3 related sites just to get my fix before the car arrives. It's driving me mad this waiting game.

Not sure I will be as patient as you and spend the whole day reading the manuals, I will go for the hare around for a couple of days with unoptimised settings then read the manual (typical bloke).

That said I do wish AUDI/VAG would make the manual available on line so I could read up at my leisure, really don't understand why they don't as its minimal effort of there part for a high level of customer satisfaction.

Any current owners with enough time to spend the couple of hours PDF'ing their manauls and sharing!!!!!!!!!!

I've already read the manual, before I ordered even (Borrowed one from the dealer out of a demo car - I'm sad), but I'll be reading it again on delivery day! It only had the basic MMI manual, not the tech pack one as well, so still plenty to learn for me I'll probably have forgotten it all anyway - heh. I only borrowed the manual to get a good idea of which options were worth going for and which not.

Now that is a good idea, wish I had thought of that! Wish Audi would put them online too.

Dave, I think MiT scanned a manual or possibly only sections of the manual and uploaded onto the site. Not sure where.

SLW, I think it was just a coupe of pages from a section, if I rememer correctly MiT said in that thread that if he got bored and was looking for something to do he might consider doing the whole manual, will let MiT confirm one way or the other

I did make this point to my dealer as part of my feedback. I was able to do this with my last car - a Mercedes.

Anyway having completed my round trip I am now even more seriously impressed with just how good the A3 is. As part of my route I crossed the Marlborough Downs on a minor road which is a joy to drive with its twists and turns as it sweeps across the Downs between Marlborough and Broad Hinton. Although short it offers a chance to appreciate a cars handling. Without wishing to ignite another round of discussion on the merits of the three suspension options I found for me the standard SE suspension together with the 'dynamic' Drive Select program was just perfect when making swift progress without causing discomfort to my passenger and when taking time to 'enjoy the view' the 'comfort' setting literally took the edge off any broken road surfaces reducing any jarring/vibration reaching the cabin.

I found the ACC a little unnerving at first as it caught up and then adjusted the speed to suit slower moving traffic. I felt that even the largest gap could have been greater but maybe this was more to do with my confidence in the system, as lack of confidence is usually translates into greater caution in my case! Hopefully greater familiarity will enable me to feel more relaxed in time. The real party trick with the ACC and S tronic is the Stop/Go function for slow moving traffic - only used it briefly but I got to appreciate it's benefits and also the potential for things going seriously wrong if full attention is not maintained!

Not sure I truly understood what criteria the car uses for deciding when to Stop/Start and when not to. I believe the way one brakes may influence the system but also I guess as it was a hot day maybe the demands of Climate Control prevented the engine stopping at times. Anyway in due course I guess it will become clearer particularly as I have never experienced Stop/Start before and have nothing to compare.

Finally the Adaptive Headlights are spooky in their movement from side to side as the car negotiates bends. So much better though than just the little pool of light cast by turning individual fog lights on and off which some 'corning light' systems fitted to other cars do.

All in all a great car .... but then I guess as we are here we know that already!! I am very happy to say that my expectations have been exceeded in all all areas. Hopefully those still waiting will find the same too when their turn comes.

I think you'll soon learn to place more trust in the ACC, but you're right you still have to give your full attention to what's going on. I instinctively hit the brakes today when coming up fairly fast behind some slow moving traffic. The road had been clear until that point so the ACC was driving at its set speed. Would the car have stopped itself? I'll never know, but I thought it best to take over.

And regards stop/start - yes the temperature inside the cars compared with that set on the climate control is definitely one criterion for not going in to stop/start. Others include the state of the battery charge etc. You'll find that releasing brake pressure slightly when coming to a halt should keep the engine running if that's what you want. The ACC holds the brakes on hard enough to go into stop/start though, other factors permitting.
