Performance clutch and fly wheel installed, should it be slipping??

Hi peeps, had my clutch installed (APR STAGE 3 ENDURANCE WITH DXD SINGLEMASS FLYWHEEL) I understand there is bedding in procedure, so no aggressive launches or harsh gear changes and keep it below 4000 rpm. So I've been driving it like a granny. The engagement is smooth and direct. No juddering etc. but I overtook a grandad doing 30 in a 60, and broke the 4000 rpm mark. I then noticed it over revving like the clutch was slipping. Is this normal with a performance clutch or should I be contacting APR. Do I have a faulty clutch? Or will it be ok once I've bedded it in? It's fine in 1st and 2nd. But 3rd,4th,5th and 6th just slips if its in the torque range. Needless to say I've not taken it past 4000 rpm or give it full throttle since it slipped. Been a very steady 150 miles so far and everything else about it is positive. I can hear the gear box a lot more now and it's not as smooth and has quite a heavy pedal, but I expected that. Any help would be amazing.

I have a helix smf and fast road clutch, gave it a good 500 miles of grandad driving to bed in, was very snatchy and stalled it a few times, but mine never slipped at all...

from what I've read on other forums, the southbend plate takes 1500 miles to bed in. It never slips when driving like a grandad. Everything is perfect, until I went past the 4000 rpm mark. But they say not to take it past that coz it will glaze it and then take longer to bed in. So looks like its gonna be a steady month or 2 lol. Will be worth the wait tho,

This clutch bedding in business sounds like BS to me. It either works or it doesn't. Taking it easy will do nothing but put you past any warranty window.

from what I've been reading today it's normal. Some guy on another forum said the same, after 1500 miles it was fine. But I could easily be the unlucky 1. I'm gonna ring APR tomorrow.

Spoke to APR today and they confirmed that I must not exceed 4000 rpm and make quick gear changes. I have been told if I do exceed 4000 rpm, it will slip until it beds in (hence yesterday's experience). Only round town driving will help this and motorway driving is no good, although it won't do no harm if all of the above is followed. Town driving for a minimum of 500 miles and all will be well. I will confirm this in 500 miles. Thanks for any helpful input

I've been a vehicle technician for 40 years, never heard so much crap in all my life, no clutch needs bedding in, never had clutch slip, with new components even in a cossy rs500.

well to be honest mate, your 40 years experience can't hold upto much coz I've now done 400 miles and went over the 4000 rpm limit just to test it. And no slip whatsoever, tried in every gear and sound. So there must be an eliment of truth in it. These guys are the pro's and I did what they "told" me to do. I'm still gonna take it steady until the Kevlar seats abut better with the flywheel. But I'm 100% happy with my investment. But thanks for your input

yeah they did say motorway driving would take considerably longer. The APR kit is a southbend clutch plate and flywheel, with a Sachs pressure plate and thrust bearing, so probably a similar kit to yours. I've gotta say, what an unbelievable difference!! Yeah it's not as comfortable, but who cares lol! It revs up so much quicker and I haven't even put it to the test yet! Seriously can't wait t get my hybrid k04 back! It's impressive as standard! (Obviously after having a nice steady bedding in session)

plus all the stage 2 3 clutch kits iv had yes they do need bedding in

ask companys like JBS statler APR southbend to name a few

i doubt they were useing the kinda clutch kits 40 years ago

When I bedded mine in recently (loba/sachs smf) I didn't even let it boost slightly, really gentle pulling away, even by grandad standards I drove steady, after 500 miles I started to drive normally- again no boost and gentle driving, more 'mum' than 'grandad'.

Then after 1k miles I slowly started to open it up, and attempted a launch after 2k miles. It has never slipped

I'm using a southbend stage3 inc light weight SMFW, I didn't really follow the bed in procedure to the T but I can say that its NEVER slipped

That's good to know really. I have followed it the best I can for the recommended mileage and I'm pleased to say that it hasn't slipped since my first incident at 10 miles. This is something I should of asked before I had it fitted really lol. But yeah it's spot on now. Gonna add the installation pics to my k04 thread. Thanks for all your comments, they've definitely put my mind at ease
