So whose going to go down the 1/4 miles in their car?

I plan to go down at least once, hopefully with our resident mod Voorhees for £20 to our chose charity. :racer:

Anyone else going down?

I'm going to have another bash at it this year :)

last year i was scared. I had a standard clutch plate, a totally dead 1st gear, and I chose to use semi slick tyres thinking they'd be better, when they were infact worse than the road tyres I drove up on!

What an epic fail that was. Ran a 14.2 on my second run, tried a 3rd run and missed 3rd gear, then gave up and went to the handling course.

Determined to do slightly better this year, new engine, paddle clutch, appropriate tyres etc etc, and a decent strip.

I'm no drag man at all. So long as I get a 13.xx pass of some sort I'll be more than happy.

can you imagine the uproar if you mananged to run a 12 second 1/4 on a stock ko4! can't be THAT far off can it?

He`ll do it with enough man foot. If not i`ll take the fcn car off him and do it myself

I'm gonna pick my nose before racing for extra weight reducing :/

I assume they rent helmets on site? Also I've heard passengers aren't allowed. Is this correct?
Yes they do,I asked Mr Birkitt for a definite answer on the passenger question.

No bare arms or legs allowed either on the strip

No one must run with passengers really then as the last times I've been to shakey on normal days I've never once seem someone go with a passenger. I think its pointless anyway. But yeah they're hot on arms and legs being covered also chin straps on helmets must be done up. I got stopped for that last time

No passengers allowed

also " Incidentally, some people reckon that the extra weight of carrying a passenger slows the car down, but I've spoken to quite a few drivers who reckon they post faster times with a passenger on board – which might be due to the better distribution of weight / traction, or the psychology of showing-off "

They are indeed Jason,I went a few years back and never went down the strip because it was a baking hot day and I only had a fleece in the boot...

...also there were v8 powered mk2 Escorts embarrassing faster cars than mine :ninja:

Everytime I seem to go its been the hottest day of the year. Last time was early October 2011 and it was 32deg iirc. Sitting in a car when its that hot, trousers and a long sleeve top on along with a helmet was insane!

Judging by the lack of posts I presume you were all crap! :lmfao:

I couldn't do it because i didn't know i had to have my arms and legs covered up and i brought my crash helmet and licence and everything !!
Coincidently i bumped into the winner in the grey Scirocco at Stafford Services.
I couldn't believe that i travelled 100 mile down the motorway and i was still seeing the cars which have the writing on the rear window from the sprint !
All in all it was a fantastic day though :)

iPhoney video of said Scirocco..

As a weight saving suggestion for next year, give me the keys and I'll gun it down the strip for you Jo. That'll knock at least 0.2 off the time and save you the hassle of removing more of the interior!

13.6 was my better one of the two,I did have unlimited runs but having a jacket and lid on in a car when its 29 outside is no fun

More importantly, he was in 1st gear (not reverse...) when the light went green. Very good technique for a good time.

Unlike someone else...
