Just done the above (taken off rear box) but I haven't noticed a difference in tone, any advice?

When you say rear, which you mean middle rear or rear rear ??

as if you just removed back box then you need to get rid off the big *** middle box as thats what is most restrictive !!

Yeah, I just took the rear box off, I didn't see anyone mention the mid box. Let the fun begone again then lol thanks for the reply.

are you looking for noise or a bit extra torque?

if you're looking for a bit more torque I would put a decat pipe on or even take the inners out of your cat.
if you're looking for a nice noise... why did you buy a diesel

Both really, and I have seen someone do it to a tdi golf and it sounded fat. He only took the rear off tho.

buy a s/s system theres loads on eBay or you might get someone local to make a custom one.
depends if hes got a quattro. if he has then good luck finding a mid priced system,
i made my own for under £200

there's a local mob to me that ive used in the past and theve made me a custom s/s system cheaper than I could buy an OEM system
there's normally plenty of places like this about have a look in the yellow pages or google it

do you not think i did! i tried 6 companys with in resonable distance, the cheapest was via a friend at £300 and that wasnt inculding down pipe.

We must be lucky where we are. we got a full system made up for that for a BMW
my wee brother got a complete system made up for his honda accord type R for £290 and that was including a down pipe.

What does a stainless steel system do except for last longer, it's no different to mild steel is it?

Oh I wasn't aware of that, thanks for the input boost addict. Il stick with the mild for now, and if I like the tone, il go stainless.

I'm just using pipe from scrap exhausts for now. If I like it closer to mot, il go s/s also are the runner boxes any good? Or remap?

one of my old passats had a tuning box on it when I got it and to be honest I never noticed any difference in power when I removed it.
My A4 has been remapped and even the boy that done the MOT made comment on how it would leave his 130 A4 for dead.
he was well impressed with how it went for a 110 and said it felt livelier than his 130

Mmmmmm.................
And can I ask why you cant have a diesel with nice noise and plenty of torque ???

a 2.5 tdi v6 on the other hand!

any v6 be it petrol or diesel will have a nice note from it.
give it a good s/s system and you will have a better noise and a burble from it.
my mate has a v10 5.0 touareg which has been decated and does sound nice.
its not overly loud when driving normal but when it gets up the rev range it does sound good.

I just dont think the 4 pot diesel would have a super sound from it with a s/s system.

Im planning on a decat for mine and through time it possibly will get a s/s system but that's purely as I don't plan to part with it so when it needs a system I would rather put a long life system on

All I've done for now is take off the rear box, and already I can hear a deeper throatier sound. It's nothing like a Petrol, but still better than a tractor

Youve never heard a 4 pot diesel turbo with nothing after the turbo then :) !!!

Slap a non res exhaust system on and youve got a monster sounding diesel lol

Lol, should have Hurd my 1.8 focus then lol ImageUploadedByTapatalk1374011988933152

my last car was an E30 325i touring with a griffin motorsport 6 branch and a full scorpion system with the leemans style rear box I loved the sound it gave off.
when it was ticking over it was throaty but not too loud once you were up the rev range it sounded sweet and had a goof throaty noise off it.
