hi
does a B6 have the capability of needle sweep and can it be switched on with vcds?

also, is it possible to make the dash lights permanently on with vcds? the needles light up all the time. when driving through the nearby woods i can't see the dials, just bright needles

i'd be happy to buy vcds if i know i can do these things with it :icon_thumright:

cheers

Im sure someone will be along to advise you shortly if its possible to do. If your decide to purchase genuine vcds cable, site sponsor NHN supplies these. :) x

In theory there are four lighting modes, which can be changed in adaptation channel 19 of the instrument control module.
From the VCDS website:

Mode 0: Nothing lit until ext. light on
Mode 1: Pointers lit all the time
Mode 2: Scales lit all the time
Mode 3: Pointers and Scales lit all the time

I always assumed that "scales" meant the dials, but I have tried to change this from mode 1 to mode 3 and it doesn't seem to make any difference. I don't know why, but would be interested to hear if anyone has had any success.

As for needle sweep, I don't think that is possible on the B6.

no needle sweep on the B6
but yes you can have all the dash on all the time
if you havent got VCDS pop over to sheff after weekend and ill sort it you
cant do it this wek im working in germany

How do I get the dash to be on all the time mate?

Yes mate, bought it from somebody on the GolfGTi forum who works for VW

That doesn't necessarily mean its genuine, wing me the serial number & a log so I ca check for you to be sure he hasn't sold you a snyde.

An employee at vw told me vcds is banned from the workplace lol wtf

That's just dealer snobbery, I've sold Audi dealerships vcds & load of technicians, they looked at it like this, VAS/ODIS 10k, vcds £260, any kid could do the maths on that one lol.

Sorry I didn't explain well enough, he had VCDS and has just got a job with VW so he had no use for it any longer

Why he got rid of it is beyond me, he cant take vas/odis home with him & dealer wont allow loads of private jobs either, so his major loss that's for sure.

It came with the Ross Tech papers mate, a blue sheet and the other was like an instruction sheet. Not at home at the moment so can get you the serial number later if you want? He said he wouldn't need it anymore as only used it on his own car which he can now use at work

PM it to me, then you have peace of mind, just remember, as its used the support doesn't follow from Ross-tech, this costs $99 to add to your cable for yourself.

What does that mean to me Nigel? Will it matter if I don't take the support? I didn't know about that, I'll have to look into it. I'll see if I can get the serial from my mrs and PM it to you mate. Thanks

No you don't need to take support up, just advising if you ever need support from RT, then it would require this at 1st, before they will provide support.

OK, thanks for the heads up mate. Appreciate it. I'll see how I get on, there's plenty of support from forum members such as yourself so I'm guessing I should be fine without it. I'm trying to get the serial for you now, is there any other way to check if genuine? I've had it connected to my car and ran the tests, it worked fine. I also coded something's and cleared some fault codes, would this be able to be done on a counterfeit cable buddy?

Keep this discussion to PM's from now on fella, as cant discuss this further as its against site rules.
