Sounds like you got a good deal. I wouldn't worry about the repair mines going better than ever now. 2500 miles and still full if oil.
Like above you get 2 years unlimited mileage warranty on the parts. I checked if labour would be covered to repair if a part failed and audi confirmed it would.

I'm still waiting to get mine back. They have had it over a month but they are just waiting on parts from Germany. At least I'm racking up the miles on their nice new A6 and not my car!!!
Surprised they have not offered a replacement engine are they doing a full rebuild of the cylinder head valve stem seals and such ?
not sure. They did say they were replacing pistons and crankshafts and maybe something else.

Another update, almost 4000 miles since the repair and still full of oil. Think it's safe to say the fix works if anyone is worried about it.

In my experience they were also half the price for me but wish I'd gone to Audi after the poor level of work & bad after service ...

Here was another thing I found later ... The importance of aligning hoses and using correct fixings....
If your planning on keeping long term I'd go to Audi ...
I once had an engine/turbo/injectors/clutch all done on a VW at main dealer, YES it cost an arm & leg but good after care and ZERO issues plus 2yrs unlimited mileage warranty ...
That didn't look overly good 
Currently back in discussions with Audi, trying to see if I can get the price down a bit, anything under 2k and will go to them to be sorted.
Should be getting a call back tomorrow.
It's getting too expensive to run with the amount of oil it's drinking.

It is difficult to plow the kinda of £££ you or others and I did, I know mine is a total different engine/issue that was being fixed ...

I really booked in car thinking this is a project, they'll take engine out and we can really work on it and after a bit of settling in I'll go for a great remap from them ... they let me down big time!

You must be beginning to forget what it looked like, going to need some love with a clay bar when it comes back I bet.
I thought they would just slap a short engine in and be done with it.
What I also want to know is how bad the head and the cat will be on mine.
It must of been doing this for some time, so they have to be pretty clogged up.
It has also picked up an issue with not telling me when it needs it's 1lt drink, have to go in and keep checking manually.

Yeah too right! The pity is, I'm now about to go abroad with work for 6 months so I'm not even going to get to appreciate it!
Well finally got my A4 back yesterday after the engine rebuild. It sounds like pretty much the whole engine was changed. It sounds a hell of alot nicer now as well. It emits a nice roar from the exhaust under acceleration which it certainly didn't do before!!!! Has anyone else found this since they had the same work done?

I've booked my A4 in today for the first part of the oil consumption test. Its going in next Monday (12th Aug) to have the test. Apparantly they do a diagnostic check and then top the oil up the maximum and then require me to drive for 600 miles. Thats at a cost of £99.
I did question what happens when the MMI shows empty before the 600 miles and was told that I'd have to do the full mileage before returning - I'm a bit concerned about that as I'm down to 300-350 miles per litre recently so will be someway below the minimum before taking it back.
They won't comment at the moment on how I might stand re any good will gestures towards the repairs. For info, my car is a Apr 2009 2.0 TFSI currently on 124k but with full Audi history.

No I wouldn't add any oil myself, just I know it will need some way before 600 miles - It was just that when I asked the question they said that I would need to continue to drive it until it had done 600 miles. My worry is if I'll be causing any damage to the engine. Based on my using 1l per 300 miles, i'll be a whole litre under the 'minimum' by the time i've done 600 miles - That wouldn't bother me so much if the car was under warranty and I knew for certain that Audi would be addressing the issue but I'm well out of warranty and didn't even buy the car used from Audi either so I'm kind of hoping on some serious good will gestures but don't want to have caused damage incase this doesn't happen - No way would I be paying over £1k for the repair, yet alone the full £4k - £5k repair. If I can't get the repair completed for under £1k, I'll simply sell the car on as it is, as reluctant as I would be to do so but I couldn't justify spending that kind of money

The initial offer that was talked about was Audi covering 70% parts and 50% labour costs - That'd leave me to pay around £1900 for parts alone, plus how ever much 50% labour might be which is way to much - They're going to have to seriously up the offer for me to go ahead with the repair. I'm due to have a conversation with the Service Manager again tomorrow

My final bill was over £6000 but with the goodwill (mainly thanks to full Audi Service History) I ended up with a bill for £255! I know somebody got it repaired for FREE! (and it was also out of warranty!). People shouldn't have to pay as Audi know this is a major problem with the TFSi engine!!!!!
I see Audi have stopped offering the 2.0TFSI for sale. I wonder if they have finally relised theres a problem with the engines!
Mine is booked in for a new engine this Friday, decided to take the plunge. I'm looking forward to seeing how it drives next week.
Having my oil test done on 23rd, Audi have said they will pay for all parts and my extended warranty from the place I bough the car from will pay for the labour so shouldn't cost me anything..... I have used 5 ltrs of oil in 1300 miles so it seems mine is really bad then!
Yours sounds similar to how mine has ended up, my official figure tested by Audi was something like 221 miles per litre

Im currently thinking of buying an a4 petrol as my daily commute (4 miles) simply doesnt justify a diesel. I am looking at 1.8 T FSI as insurance is lower. Does this problem also commonly affect 1.8 together with 2.0?

No, just the 2.0T FSI (and I think I'm right in saying its only the 211bhp version of the engine)
I think you are correct rudders, I have had many different versions of the 2.0LT in other cars and never had this issue before. Can I just ask has anyone found this also effects fuel economy, as mine is terrible!!
From most of the comments i've read from people who's car have this issue, fuel economy normally seems ok. In fact, I've seen several people say it's dropped AFTER the repair. For info, mine generally averages 34mpg around town, and on a long steady run i get low 40's mpg.

I wish i had the luck like above. Bought mine from a local garage and using about 1ltr of oil to 450 miles :/ The car has done 100,000k but is in mint condition with a full audi service history. If i can put up with the oil consumption is the engine ok otherwise to do so?

this was my initial thoughts as well, but over 12k miles the oil consumption increased by over double to around 1 litre every 220-240 miles, and the car has started to run a bit rougher, smoke more, hesitate etc etc so I don't think it's something that can be left indefinitley Either be prepared to get it sorted, or sell it on before it gets worse. I wish I'd have sold mine on as soon as I became aware of a problem and saved myself being in this situation. I just hope it's all good after the new engine is fitted tomorrow

£2k. It's a lot, but I was kind of left with no choice, I doubt it would have sold privatly so would have probably had to put it in the auction to make next to nothing. I was lucky to be honest though, Audi's offiial good-will ends at 5 years or 124k miles. Mine is an April 2009 so almost 4 1/2 years old and had done bang on 124k when I took it for the first oil consumption test. I think the sooner you approach them, the better offer you will get. The other thing to remember is that the good-will is mainly from Audi UK, but your local Audi dealer will also contribute.

Ive emailed audi customer services but might pop to my local audi dealership now to get it booked in to get it on the books because mines a 2009 with 102,000 on it so might be pushing my luck.

Went to my local Audi dealership and said to them i would be interested in getting the car serviced in the future there to make it sound like i meant business in the future but also said the car was using ALOT of oil. So the car is booked in on Tuesday for them to give it a once over and look for oil leaks etc (which i know it doesn't) and then go from there. No doubt it will cost me for this first work to be done but at least its on the books then.
