My A3 modifications and Facelift

It depends what you want to spend and what you class as 'smooth' mate.

I have coilovers which are dropped about 65mm. I mostly do motorway journeys and to be fair, the ride isnt that bad. Obviously hitting a pot hole or a speed bump its alot worse than standard suspension but i'm just more careful.

As coilovers are adjustable you could just raise them if they're too harsh.

Cheap coilovers only last a couple of years realistically so if you're not prepared to change them that often i'd go for more expensive ones with a longer guarantee.

As for springs i'm sure which ones are best but i if you use the search engine on this site there will be a fair few topics mate. :beerchug:

mmm well it seems like i'll struggle to get just springs that will give me a lower look. the lowest i can find are 45mm. the extra 10mm lowering compared to my 35mm springs wont look much better. I'll have to shop about a bit. . Cheers

No problem, any more queries give Damian@DPM a shout.

plastidipped centre caps aswell. it's great how audi designed these centre caps. . the chrome audi rings and chrome ring just pop off. . .real do..:yum: Also forgot to mention have fitted Racemax wheel spacers on front and back 10mm and 12mm. Thanks to Greame at GNJ Motorsport . .

After months of deciding, I've bit the bullet and booked the car in for a vinyl wrap. It was a tough decision but i thought what the heck. I've had the car for four years now and i never usually keep a car for longer then 2 years. I really like the car with it being a very low mileage diesel its very reliable and economical for work and with what i've spent so far it looks pretty good. i wanted to keep it but change something to keep me interested in it. The colour . . . well lets just say it's a bright one. . . It's one of them you either like it or you don't. . (Marmite rip off) :sm4: Pics to be added soon. . .

So . . here are the pics of the vinyl wrap. It's probably not to everyones taste lol, but it's turned out better than i expected. Feel free to comment . .3738394041424344454647484950515253545556575859606162636465

The Wrap Looks Like a Good Job. Very Clean, Definitely not that colour!! What is it Parrot Green?? But Each to their own... Definitely will stand out!

It's Hexis apple green. Hexis being the manufacturers name. It's the closest match to the signal green colour that Audi offered on some models and was popular on porsches. Yeah i'm quite pleased with the workmanship.

Can I ask you a questing about your rear suspension? Do you wheels catch on the outside on the wheel arch?
yes mate they do when go over bumps quickly. I've even taken the screw out that it was catching on before and it still scrapes a little. But it is only very slightly and it's not doing any damage to the arch or tyre.

Like the colour! Where did you get the wrap done? That's a good price!

Love the colour mate! and what you have done r.e S3 bumpers etc!! If youhow much has it cost you to get it looking like it is from double grille?

That is decent on price! Hmmm.....maybe thinking about getting mine done. Would love to get mine done in matte black

Are you doing the wingmirrors in black to match?

Nice :icon_thumright:

Cheers pal.

That looks like a great job on the wrap, pretty decent on the pocket too.

I like the colour
Thanks.

yeah its been costing a bit, but it's like every so often. not sure how much its come to yet. would dread to add it all up lol but yeah it did start off as a fully standard car with double grill . .

yeah matt black is fair nice . i might get the roof done in that. i got the mirrors wrapped to replicate the S3 look. i'm pretty happy with them . .

Im not the best with mechanics of cars but where abouts are the screws located and do I need to remove the wheels to get them out?

if you look along the arch lip where it meets the plastic inner liner theres usually a couple of torx drive screws. if it's been catching on them you'll see them marked shiny silver where the tyre has been polishing them . . just take em out. don't need to take the wheels off.

Thanks mate, I might be plasti-dipping my wheels this weekend so I suppose I can get better access when I remove the wheels

gstar wraps in Lancashire. Decent job for the brass. .

Where about in Lancs mate? I'm in Horwich, where are you based? Might look into getting mine done, are you happy with the work?

any pics of the inside of the doors boot etc

cool. did you get round to plastidipping the wheels? all mine have starting peeling in various places now :faint: so i'm painting them matt black this weekend . .

He's in Nelson. His website is G Starwraps Vehicle Wrapping Vinyl Wrapping Liquid Wrapping i'm pretty happy with the work and for the price i can't complain. Some of the edges could have been finished off a bit better, but I can sometimes be too much of a perfectionist. . .

any pics of the inside of the doors boot etc

Haven't really taken any. . Doesn't look to bad with the car previously being black. Would be a bit odd if the car was say red or blue . . depends how fussy you are :ermm:

Nice bit of reading... You've done well with your car... the ammount of money you've spent though, you might have just been able to buy a S3...

Apart from that, well done... enjoyed reading this and that colours great! I've got a sprint blue S3 and wouldnt have the balls to do anything like that!

Only thing with the s3 tho, anything apart from oem just looks ****....

Wish i'd facelifted my old split grill 2.0tfsi quattro now... loved that car but knew the cost would have been too crazy to justify....

Thanks pal. Yeah i'd love to have an S3, but it's not only the buying cost but the running costs aswell. . fuel would be the killer for me as i do a lot of miles. So just making the A3 Diesel look a bit better was the option for me. Also my tax is dead cheap. .

I do tend to agree with you on the mods. I'm still on the look out for genuine s3 sideskirts and spoiler. . the aftermarket ones i used aren't the best looking . . .

Have a few more mods to add on. .

Audi logo puddle lights. . . These were fairly simple to fit. Although i had to buy some contact pins to put in the connector plug. Couldn't get the exact ones so had to modify some that i bought from an electronics shop . . . Thanks to RobinA3 on his fantastic write up.

Also with the plastidip just randomly starting to peel off my wheels and shrinking on the curves. I had to pull it all off and decided to just rattle can them matt black. Also bought some green high temp brake caliper paint off fleabay. . Nearest colour i could find. . Green kicks a**!:eiertritt:

Just seen this, wrap looks class!

Quick question, how many cans did it take to Plasti Dip the wheels? Looking to do mine in the next couple of weeks.

Cheers pal. I probably used 1 can per wheel. I bought a box of six though. i'm not sure but i think you get a discount if you buy six. . .but this stuff didnt really work for me and i ended up painting. I may not have prepped correctly but hey ho. . .
Looks beautiful mate, well done. Love the color

Cheers pal.

Just had a look and you do get discount for 6 so I'll probs just do that. A bit bored of my wheels at the moment so want a change in a bright colour but don't want it to be permenant.

Very nice looks so different.
Is the opel badged GSi a real one ie XE?

Nice i had a 1992 one till April 2008, badged as an opel

Did you have to swap anything else on the front end to get the bumper to fit? I'm sure I read some where that you had to change the bonnet also?
