well after lots of reading about having the grill wrapped, replaced or plasti dipped and having my lovely husband chewing my ear off constantly as he hated the chrome i decided to give the plasti dip a go. I have to say i was really pleased with the finish. There is a nack to painting with it i think as its so not like spray paint ! I have sprayed the bottom of the chrome window surrounds too but ran out when it came to the tops so will post pics of that when the next lot of plasti dip arrives!
I want to reveal the silver rings but chris likes them black so for now i guess the black is staying!

Not only do i have a happy husband but i think it looks quiet cool too ! here you go :0)

Thanks for the possitive comments guys , Ash I figured it would be easier to spray it all together and then peel off the rings after ;0)

Leave the rings looks much better imo

Are right ok did you remove the front bumper and take the grill of to do it?

we were going to remove the bumper but decided not to. We undid the three bolts on the top of the grill, slid a large piece of card down behind the grill but in front of the radiator as far as the filler plate and then put lots of folded paper up behind from the splitter making sure that the radiator was completely covered sticking it down from the bottom and masked the rest off the the best pic but gives u an idea

Ok seems an easy job to do did you spray the splitter aswel or do they come that colour

Nice job.. I'm about to do mine on my Akoya Silver A3.... I have never sprayed anything in my life.

I think the key is keep shaking the can and make sure you apply thin coats and make sure you leave 30 min or so inbetween to let dry!

I tried

And I failed.

I applied the first coat a bit too thick and noticed a little run so I had to peel it all off and start again but that means taking all the paper off, all the tape, cleaning it again, drying it again and then putting the newspaper and masking tape on AGAIN :keule:

I think it may be easier for ME to remove the bumper and grill and do it like that, bear in mind I'm only trying to do the chrome outline and not the whole thing so I have to put paper in the middle of the grill let alone outside of it :(

Oh no! either way you'll need to mask it up. to be honest i thought i would have a couple of runs but it smooths its self out. really weird stuff! luckily it peels off easily ha! good luck next time :0)

good luck next time :0)

If there is a next time :lazy:

It would be easier just to do the whole thing and then remove the plasti dip from the Audi Rings like you said, but where do I put the cardboard? I undone them 3 torx when I opened the bonnet but it didn't budge?

Aaron

you should be able to just lift the plastic up enough just to slide the cardboard in, you have to wiggle it about a bit as its a bit fiddly but took no more than 5 minutes :)

HI guys, new to the site and just bought an A3 3 weeks ago. Mine is also in this colour and the first thing I wanted to do was get rid of the chrome on the grille. The problem I now have is that im getting a few silver spots appearing as I only used standard Matt Black from a spray can. I am thinking of Wrapping it in Carbon Fibre now but I really do like that look from the dip... Where can I get it from? Thanks.

Heres a pic of mine...

I plasti dipped my front grille and rings, easy as peas and looks great. Get it from the plasti dip site, although stock sells quick
