The first 77 days of waiting have been pretty tough especially all the agonising over "have I selected the right options" especially on suspension set -up, which resulted in a relatively late change, others that were seriously considered but not added - advanced key and most recently adaptive xenon upgrade. Choice of car was never in question, although was momentarily almost swayed by the thought of getting a year old ex trade show Q3, but I just love the completely new car sensation.

so only 99 days to go, hoping for 1st September collection which will require a treck to sarf London from leafy Hertfordshire.

June will pass ok, especially as I have an R8 track day next week and a new kitchen being fitted ( small price to pay for getting away with a new car).

August has 3 weeks holiday and then a couple of weeks of continually counting the minutes and occasional calls to the dealer to check all still on track.

July is a problem though, a few bbq's will help but gardening just does not do it for me.

Personal touches to still sort out over the next 14 weeks (all comments gratefully received)

1. What s line key ring to buy
2. What tax disc holder to buy
3. Do I fit chrome tyre valve caps and if so what ones.
4. How the hell can I remove the sun blind sticker without leaving unsightly marks.

other bits

1. Can I find someone to buy my existing car in last 2 weeks of August at same price as px to the dealer making even more
2. Praying that no one else in the work car park also has a 63 plate on show on 2nd September, want to be centre of attention for at least a day

And one I have no control over....... Will the service light come on in my 8P in the next 99 days

Will update this thread as other random pre ownership thoughts go through my head

Interesting thread, im going to look forward to the regular updates, 99 days sounds a long time, but it will soon pass. Happy countdown. I think im going to need to find a special piece of music to do justice to this thread, lol. :) x

First July thing to keep me occupied has just been sorted......Day trip to Le Touquet early July ( disguised as wedding anniversary day out!!), will be in the current 8P 1.4TFSI but will be a benchmark for the new car.

The trip is bit of a busmans' s holiday for me as I do this route at least once a month down to close to Dieppe. I usually get a hire car (had some dogs and some top class cars for this journey) but am planning to take the new SB middle of September for bit of run out on the A16 toll road so will be good comparison.

The R8 track experience was absolutely brilliant, boy is that thing quick, made my 1.4TFSI seem like a Citroen 2CV on the way home.

The kitchen fitting is not going quite to plan including one rather expensive hiccup but that's another story at least the time has gone pretty quick and combined with work has meant I have not had much time to research tax disc holders, key rings or chrome valve caps.

All the talk ( and music) of the new car owners has been great reading and I just wish mine was sooner.... I now have a cunning plan to get a much quicker delivery.......watch this space.

Are you going to secretly hijack one? Keep this to yourself, but there are a few deliveries of D****** grey cars up for delivery!

Looking forward to update on your countdown. :) glad you enjoyed driving the R8, they are awesome machines, they drive so great and its effiortless. :) x

I'm not sure stealing from the dealership counts as taking delivery lol! Hope it works out for you and you get it earlier!!

6 laps was just not long enough, interesting thing was how familiar a lot of the interior and set-up was compared to my a3 and how quickly I felt at home in it. Will do it gain but a much longer session next time

if I told you I would have to kill you :) might take 7-10 days for things to be a bit clearer but will post here once I know something firmer.

Daveotto, sounds you had a great time.......not that I'm jealous! Was the R8 Daytona Grey? Interesting that the interior is similar to the A3.

Brilliant Black, it was really just the instrument cluster and stalks were standard Audi when I was expecting something a little different.

I was sat in an R8 at the dealership the other day. The lock/unlock buttons on the door looked very familiar.

The A3 interior possibly looks better though! The R8 is a bit dated.

I am so excited, just got my car, and now a proud owner of a brand new Daytona Grey SB to the spec I wanted even down to the roof rails will just have to get used to the left hand drive

Tried going direct to the manufacturer but ended up going to a reseller and got a 25% off list price and a special edition, one of only a thousand

Quick photo from my phone, better photos to follow ,and out for a drive before it starts raining

Ok all- these are my choices to go with the long awaited car and all on order along with £50 of cleaning products to go with the £40 ish already spent on wax and polish etc.

Day trip to le Touquet in the current 8P 1.4TFSI on Sunday as benchmark for the new car and then I am really struggling with stuff to keep me busy until holiday - at times September 1st seems close but on days like today it's forever!!!

For the door keys

For the car keys

tax disc

valve caps -really not 100% on tese by can always go on the mountain bike if I don't like em

Starting to grin as 1st September collection is confirmed

Dealer phoned today and car is being built this week, 1-2 weeks ahead of schedule. Had a discussion on whether I could possibly get my hands on it before end of July but its touch and go with an estimated 3 - 4 from now to being at dealers so opted for the safe and confirmed 1st September on a 63 plate and with limited selection of dealer reg plates as its also my Year of birth.

Must be a nice feeling that you car is being built, imagining the Daytona grey being sprayed on.......the roof rails being attached.. Lol

Any ideas for your reg plate? Maybe OT63 DAV? If I see that reg I will know it is you...lol

Just going to wait to see what the dealer can offer and if anything even marginaly personal will select it.

Did look at a private plate but to buy something like OT63 DAV costs around £400 and I can think of far better things to waste my money on and not really in to the private plate thing unless you can afford something really obvious...would love to be able to afford DAVE 1.....we can all dream

Dealer called this morning "good morning sir, things have moved on rather quickly and your car will be with us tomorrow for prep and could be available for collection before the weekend should you wish to collect before your holidays......"

Went through several rounds of YES/NO/YES/NO.....I'll call you back ......and after almost as many deliberations as deciding between SE and Sports suspension have stuck to my guns of 1st September.

I am gutted and excited at the same time knowing the car has been born and will be in very safe hands once it gets off the transporter tomorrow but I won’t be able to see it for another 48 days compared to 4 days if went to get it Friday.

In reality the only day I could realistically pick it up would have been Thursday week, whilst I was in West London. I would then had 2 days of driving it before leaving at the airport for nearly three weeks and when I return would have had maybe 4 days driving around in her before another business trip for a few days which takes me up to 1st September give or take a day or so.

On balance for the sake of maybe a week’s driving in just under 7 weeks I opted for 1st September and a YOB "63" plate.......I must be mad after almost exactly 4 months of waiting.

What would you all have done?

I'd have done the same. For the sake of a week's driving, I definitely get the new reg.

Had exactly the same debate on my delivery date which was originally to be September as I didn't want a 13 reg but was offered earlier. After originally saying 'no' I found the temptation was too great. So having found a suitable private plate decided to take it early and hopefully will be getting it next Tuesday. With all this good weather the opportunity to get out on the road was just too much to miss!

However to get delivery and then have to leave it parked up for so long would mean the 'straight from the showroom' freshness would be lost unless you can keep in a 'clean room' while not in use. So on balance a good call ... and if you need a 'head' rather than 'heart' reason the later reg date will be better on the residual value when you get that far down the road.

Was definitely a heart v head decision. I had not thought about the weeks of airport car park grime....good call.

Enjoy your day next Tuesday and welcome to the forum

Not just grime, just general TLC - at least you know the dealership will look after it, a lot more than an airport car park would anyway! What if the person who parks next to you decides to leave some nice dents in your doors?

Dave, all things considered, I would have done he same. However, I know it must be agonising knowing you could be driving it soon!.........but only for a week. Something to really look forward when you return from holiday.

Looking forward to it already, more than the holiday ( don't tell the Mrs)

Vast majority of folk agree its the best way to go but think the dealer was a little disappointed as expect he will be having a fair few conversations like mine in the next couple of weeks and taking a dent in his monthly bonus but will have a bumper September.
