S6 towing the S3 looks awesome lol.

Didnt realise how much power this thing was running, oh dayum! Bet you surprise a fair few porschers etc in that!! Looks really clean too, good work! What an S3!

Thanks... she is a bit of a sleeper... (exactly what I set out to do)... Saturday wasn't a total bust though, I managed to scare some bloke trying to impress his 'girlfriend' in a Ferrari convertible (no idea what Ferrari it was, they all look the same to me...) either way he went for it and I was pulling away from him... his face kinda said it all and he slowed down again no doubt being told by his passenger to stop acting like a **** lol...

I was about to say that up until 10 minutes ago, no one had mentioned or congratulated on the great figures the old girl put out!

Id be very happy with those

Thanks all... I would take those figures with a pinch of salt.... dyno lottery applies but she is still in the 400hp/330ftlbs region currently. .. comparatively on the day I made second highest power with the TT we built coming first and she made more power than the mapped TTRS's that were there. ..

Plans are a foot to achieve my goal of at least 420hp consistently at as low a boost as I can.... the lupo will do 300hp all day long on Bill's dyno every run even consecutive runs... I plan to have that consistency but with more power obviously.

Like Karl said congrats on the figures (i know lottery applies) but iirc yours was pretty close to hollies which is running a bigger blower so in comparison thats a win :)

tuffy, is your keyboard broken ??

Not like you to just throw pictures up.:(

Is that a water pump leak?

I wonder why Tuffty would have boxes of parts in one picture and a stripped down block in another..... Beats me.....:respekt:

As you may have already guessed from the teaser pics I am building a new bottom end for my car... I have been wanting to do this for a while... no particular reason (like one is needed after all this) but seeing as the head and its components is essentially new then I wanted a newly built bottom end and of course it 'might' involve a certain TFSI crank :)

Basic spec is 82mm 9.5:1 CP pistons, IE rifle drilled rods, ACL main and big end race bearings, TFSI crank, ARP main studs, ARP head bolts, balanced crank and rod/pistons, dual doweled crank pulley, new oil pump, new oil pickup, new crank seals, new oil pump chain, new oil chain tensioner, new water pump, manual cam belt tensioner, new crank pulley bolt...

I chose 82mm for a few reasons (rightly or wrongly), no need for a special or NA gasket to accommodate the extra bore, I wanted CP pistons as they appear to get good write up and Arnold at Pag Parts swears by them, I couldn't get a lower comp ratio piston without them being custom to accommodate the increase in compression the thinner gaskets would have provided and I didn't want 8.5: or more than 9.5:1 comp ratio, 82mm means a capacity of 1960cc vs 2008cc and figured I make decent enough power on my current 1781cc setup... hindsight being what it is maybe I should have gone 82.5mm or even 83mm but meh... its done and tbh I am not really bothered either way..

I was going to rebuild using my current block but as a good friend pointed out it will make an easier swap and I'll be able to sell on my current bottom end... considering most of that has done no more than 15k miles it made sense (so watch the classifieds :p)

Parts are dribbling in but hopefully the block will be off for the rebore and a clean in the next week...

Will update as and when...

Going for a blast down the sprint for old times sake then??... :)

I wasn't going to say anything and let you all speculate but tbh between the tial breaking off and the coolant hose splitting I am not really feeling the urge...

I have a few things I want to re-do while the engine is out... you live and you learn with these things and stuff breaks, you fix it/make it better and move on but while there is doubt in my mind on a few aspects that need sorting out then I am not entirely happy to push things... don't get me wrong I am happy enough to drive the car 'with spirit' but launching a 400hp awd car that actually hooks up does take its toll and it makes me cringe every time I do it...

We shall see... will check the car over to convince myself and who knows on the day maybe I will... but I reserve the right to decline... until next year of course lol... :D

do you still have the N/A cams in tuffty?

Yeah... dunno if I am gonna change back to my stds or not yet... we will see... might bang the std exhaust back in and leave the inlet..

Proper cams may be an option at a later date but no actual hurry for that tbh...

Yeah i remember you saying you might drop the stock exhaust cam back in.
With the stroker on the way, you can keep the N/A cams in without a worry in the world of losing low down/midrange

Cant wait to see the results

More parts...

Block should be going off next week to be bored, will also be getting the crank pulley double dowelled... will do an initial build to make sure pistons clear the squirters etc then the crank, rods and pistons will go off to be balanced..

are the rods not already balanced within 1g tuffty?

Ive often wondered what is done when crank AND rods and pistons are sent to be balanced. I understand what they do with the crank and with the flywheel on it. But what is done with the rods and pistons? My brute rods came all within 1g.

From what I understand the piston/rod are balanced as an assembly end to end... obvs the rods themselves are pre balanced so this should help but makes sense to balance as an assembly..

I am not getting the flywheel done as I am still on DMF and this will just not work in a balancer... I have no immediate plans to go SMF but will be interesting to see how well the clutch has faired when the engine comes out...

Tufty whats your views on the topran brand? On vag talk their seems to have been several failures all Involving topran oil pumps,!

Got one in my current engine and seems ok hence using it this time around... guess it depends on what is defined as the failure... oil pumps are a fairly simple piece of engineering... not much to go wrong other than wear
