Anti-corrosion warranty results - Please post here

I didn't pay for the roof rails to be done but I paid for the rear quarter work to be done again so it all matched.

Audi agreed to take my car back in to correct the roof repair they did, at the same time looked into repairing corrosion under the paint on the other side lower rear quarter, and driver door. Quoted £800 but only have to pay £240 for the work, however the body shop agreed to pay my contribution as I had to return for the original roof repair! Im quite suprised they have agreed to do this as it was a different side and panel on the car, but happy none the less. Booked in begining of april. Lets hope they get the roof right this time!

DETAILS OF RUST FOUND - Both sides of the roof, on the outer edges of the roof gutters, towards the rear >> n/s = 6" long | o/s = 3" long.
TIME TO WARRANTY CLAIM FROM FIRST NOTICING IT - 4 days (my entire ownership up to this point!).
HOW LONG YOU HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME - 4 days.
DEALER APPROACHED - Colbornes Audi Guildford.
OUTCOME (APPROVED, REFUSED) - Approved. 2 Options offered:

- 70% good-will contribution leaving a total of £330 to pay.
OR
- Have a £150 service and health check and the paint work will be FOC.

REASON FOR REFUSAL - n/a.
DATE OF CLAIM - November 30th 2012 (Images lost due to change of body-shop manager) - Resubmitted Jan 10th 2013.

I'm pretty happy with that outcome, tbh.

This is rife amongst VAG cars.....I suffered the exact same issue on my wifes Passat.

Please Help front wing corrosion


The car is a 53 plate VW Passat and the front wings started to rust from the inside out. This is part of a poor design feature from when the car was new, and probably can relate to yours too.

I claimed and initially was told it was the paint warranty ( 3 years ) and not covered.

I fought and they eventually offered 50% good will, further negotiations got them to offer 70% goodwill. After telling them I was not interested in their goodwill and I wanted them to honour their 12 year anti corrosion warranty, we slowly made progress.
I had to stop just short of taking them to the small claims court and they then coughed for a 100% TOTALLY FREE fix.

PLEASE PLEASE DO READ the link and all the posts contained within, and follow them to the letter.

If you do and are prepared to go to the mat, so you don't have to fork £200 - £300 as part of your contribution for something that should be resolved for FREE under warranty, you will win in the end I'm sure.

DEALER APPROACHED: Giltrap Audi, Auckland, New Zealand.

OUTCOME: It took around 6 weeks after photos were taken by Panel shop, before approval was given. I pay nothing!

DATE OF CLAIM: Jan 2013

Car went in to the panel shop today for two weeks.

Anyway I am concerned that it won't get done even if Audi HQ approve. It looks like one side has been resprayed maybe. The lacquer around the window looks iffy and the warranty guy said only last week the body shop turned away a car because it had been sprayed previously, even when HQ approved the warranty claim.

Oddly, he did check paint depth and it was on the high side but on every panel. The iffy lacquer is on the rear window off-side, no where else. The paintwork in general is great for 12+ years.

Question: what paint depth readings have people got on there A3/S3?
I need some figures to compare.

Mine was slightly different, audi acceptable paint readings i was told was between 100 - 200 - in certain parts my car was 800.. Indicating it had seen paint. So they didn't even take pictures, just rejected the claim straight away.

TBH, when my car was checked in, it gave a high reading on all the panels. The assessor said it wasn't unusual for cars to be taken off the production line and redone. My car was likely to be one of them.

What can I say if Audi state that the roof rail issue is not through-rust? Because my understanding is, it's not!

Had mine about 2 months put in a claim for roof rails 3 weeks ago.

Came back with me having to pay £340 contribution!

How is this fair? How can I argue it been on the phone with audi UK already for 40mins. Didn't get anywhere.

The only thing you can do is take it to the small claims court & get an independent assessor to look at it, not the ones they send, they are contracted and are paid by Audi on a regular basis, can you imagine what would happen if they held up all these claims? Audi will say no all the way!

i had a problem with some paint that Audi had done on my car and the body shop and Audi said it was an acceptable repair.
I had endless phone calls with Audi I got referred to their inspectors they use. Helpful bloke from pvwi came and inspected the car that evening I had an email from pvwi siding with me.

the body shop had to rework the car.

My advice is to phone pvwi and talk to them they won't send anyone if they done think you will win. And I got the money back from the inspection.

I had rust on the roof rails on my 2001 Audi A3 1.8T Sport done under warranty in February 2010. Just noticed that the rust is starting to come back on one side!

Not had a chance to read through the whole thread but has anyone else had this happen?

Yes, as its less than 12 years old...

Good luck.. Majority of people in the thread had to pay 30% towards the work.

Hi guys,

owned my s3 8l 2001 since January this year. Noticed the rust when buying the car but didnt have time to follow it up until recently. When contacting my local dealership and going through a garage and finally Audi. The declined my request to offer me good will compensation. The garage has quoted £380 to spray the rear top quarter and replace lh trim. Not the best result but not too expensive either.
just thought I would post encase any was wondering what would happen if your can was just outside the 12yr warranty!

Sent it in this morning, They are also going to check the coilpacks under recall but Im pretty sure mine have been changed already and any other recalls it may need, I never asked them to do that but its nice to see someone go the extra mile.


They also gave me this 4k miler to drive about in while the work is been carried out.

Update

I got my car back this afternoon. I cant tell where they have painted but the corrosion is gone so that means its a good job. They also changed a coilpack then they cleaned the car inside and out. I have to give it to Micheal Moore car sales(Audi Athlone) I have never come across such customer service. From the initial contact to me hopping back into my own car it was top class and I would recommend them to all the Irish guys. I was a non paying customer but felt like I was collecting an R8. Excellence beyond excellence in relation to their customer service and quality of their work.

Still waiting. Audi haven't even bothered replying to the dealership at York. My first contacts was nearly two months ago. Audi York say just have to wait, but now my cars out of warranty, although I made them aware and submitted report while it was still covered.

Who can I complain to, if not Audi dealership?

Do you mean they said that its a paint defect rather than through-rust?

Who is the dealership you are using? Or are you dealing direct with hq?

Keep at them and if its under warranty why are people paying towards it? Been fobbed off if you ask me. Mine was sorted free of charge quarter blended in and all. Even gave me a brand new golf to tip about in. Stick it to them.

I'm currently having fun with Audi over getting my roof gutters sorted under the 12 year anti-corrosion warranty. I've had my car inspected at Harwoods Southampton where I was told (wish I'd recorded the conversation) that mine was indeed a case of corrosion from inside out. They took pics etc and sent all that off to Audi. Audi have come back with the usual rubbish, a 70/30 split and saying it's a paint issue. I have sent an email to Audi customer services highlighting the fact I was told it was corrosion from inside out and that there is no consistency in dealing with this situation. I also attached a scanned copy of my letter from Harwoods which I hope will make them change their minds. Whilst it says all the 70/30 gumph Harwoods have written this on my letter 'Roof corrosion - £291.22 plus vat'. So I have it in black and white that Harwood believe that corrosion is the problem and this is what they are quoting to repair. So if I have to go the courts route they'd take one look at the letter and simply laugh at Audi as their own bodyshop has stated it's corrosion.

We will see! If I don't get a reply to the email by tomorrow I shall be on the phone to them. On this note is anyone that has had their claim sorted 100% under warranty willing to scan their documents to show Audi did this work for the same problem 100% under warranty? Hoping it wont go the small claims court route but you never know!

I've had a little email traffic with the bodyshop but sadly they are not willing to cover the 30% Audi UK (VWG) want me to pay. The edge and fold reason was brought up but I pointed out that any panels that have edges worked should have been re-treated to prevent corrosion prior to painting. So in my opinion a totally unvalid excuse / reason.

As I'm a union member I have access to free legal advice so this is my next step. I did email Audi UK on Monday last week which highlighted numerous points but I haven't heard anything back as of yet. Once I've had a chat with a solicitor I'll take things from there!

That was from audi in Stockport. Pretty disappointed with them to be honest, specially as around 70% of my service history is actually from audi.

Service history has nothing to do with making a claim against the 12 year anti-corrosion warranty, it is becausee they are saying it is your paint that is the issue and somehow it is magically corroding?! how paint corrodes I do not know though. My car is approaching 65k and the last two stamps aren't Audi ones but I've still been offered the 70/30 split. There is no consistency at all. It is up to you what you do but I'm quite determined to get a 100% payout. We'll see what legal advice I get later today.

I've just been on the phone with Audi and sadly they are sticking to the fact that it is edge and fold techniques used during the manufacturing process that is causing this issue. By that they mean that on an 'edge' somewhere the paint has flaked off allowing water ingress and thus causing the corrosion. Personally I cannot see how paint has flaked off in an area that has a rubber channel and metal strip placed over it?

Has anyone ever removed the strip and seen the construction of the joint in this area? I've dug up a little information but all this information points to is the fact that when bent the zinc coating applied to the panels becomes damaged and potentially this is the point when the corrosion starts! right back on the assembly line before it is even primered / painted. I've also read that there was an advice note issued to dealers in March 2005 reference this issue. I don't suppose anyone has ever seen this or have a copy of it do they?

Audi have given me information to visit PVWI to gain an independant report however I do not see how this can be independant if they are advising me to do this? Does anyone know of paint specialists in the Hampshire area that I could use to obtain a report as it seems that this is the route I am going to have to take if I am to get Audi to honour the seemingly worthless warranty.

HAHAHAHa this warranty is a joke !!! I took my 2002 A3 in for the bottm of the doors rusting. They cam back today asking for £845 contribution lol The car s worth £1200 !!! They said its a extrenal problem that damaged the paint hence cuasing the rust lol !!!

Total waste of time ad energy !!
