Non smokers pack in 8V

The whole central console area is a joke on the 8V and one my least favourite features.

On the 8P, the non-smoking pack removed the built-in ashtray and made a very decent-sized and useful central storage area for sticking wallet/keys/etc. On the 8V it's hopeless. As there's no physical ashtray to remove, you gain no more space via it's removal and instead of a useful storage area we have two pointless cupholders. I personally never have drinks in the car so that entire area has been rendered useless to me which I hate.

My ashtray arrived from Ebay this morning too, and it is indeed brand spanking new as advertised.

Back to yesterday:

what happened to good old customer service, the days when the dealer would throw in a couple of goodies, tank full of petrol, flowers in the back for the wife, now it's, lets see how much money we can make! Sod the customer there just the cheque book.

I may be the exception to the rule, but when I collected my car on Monday I had the leads that I'd asked for, a set of mats, a 3/4 tank of fuel, no dealership stickers, and fancy little (ad free) keyrings for both sets of keys. My wife received a huge basket of flowers (putting to shame anything I've ever bought her!).

I was also 'forced' to have my photo taken with my wife and son in front of the new car so they could give us a photographic memento (I hate having my pic taken!).

Cheers, Paul.

I think you'll find you're now on the Dealer's Facebook page lol

In which case you should find it comes with a blue cable as a minimum, and some dealers are swapping it for the red cable. I can't remember anyone saying they had both chucked in for free, but you might be able to negotiate it. I had the costs from the dealer last week for the cables, and they are about £35 each.

Mine came with the blue....picked the car up with my I phone 4s in hand...blue didn't have the artwork...so they swapped it for the red...on arriving home my old trusted I Pod wouldn't work with the red....so rang Audi and they gave me the red....so I HAVE BOTH lalalalalaaa

You must ask for the picture and post it on the forum. Lol

Better still tell us the dealership name and we will find and post it on the forum. :jester:

i also never have drinks in the car, hence me buying an ashtray to fill one of the holes,I don't smoke either but the lid on the ashtray looks cool, and I'm sure I will find a use for it.

What I'd really like is to find a black understated cup thing, possibly with a lid, which fits snugly in the cup holder and in which I can keep loose change. It rattles around like crazy in the cup holders and is a pain to get out.

Is there no little compartment for loose change and credit card like on the 8P.....if not i am cancelling my order.

I only have drinks in the car on rare occasions but actually like the look of the cup holders when lit with the interior light pack but think they are actually pretty useless unless you are an American on a 1000 mile road trip and need space for the endless XXXXL Starbucks

search on eBay for "audi mug to go"

I also do not smoke or have drinks/food in the car so I will be using the chrome/black ashtray cup for storing loose change. Easy to take out the ashtray cup and empty coins into hand.

What cupholders? All I have in mine is two illuminated house key storage pods......

The last person to bring a drink into my car up-ended it down the side of the passenger seat (the car was literally 4 days old). They spent the next 30 minutes cleaning it up and have learnt their lesson - no drinks in the car!!

The ashtray is cup shaped and sits in one storage pod on the centre console. Lift the chrome lid to the ashtray to put coins in it or potentlly fill it with liquid and drink from it. I will not be doing the latter.

Totally agree Mjcourtney. Years ago I once had a car which was brand new and after a few days a friend got a lift from me and managed to spill coca cola on the fabric/cloth and drop some chocolate flakes from a mars bar which also marked the same cloth. Never again. I may accept mineral water at a push... lol

Then there is car sick and when they get older it is mud and grime from the football pitch and chocolate Maccy D's milkshake and chewing gum.........only 18+ years of ruining your pride and joy before you see the light again.

Yep, well said Dave...others I have loved are, there is no where to change the baby, we will have to do it in the back of the car, my wife does this regularly and I end up finding all sorts in the car.

Luckily I am almost out of the woods - one is now drving themselves and the other is old enough to know the value of what they are messing up and potentially ruining

Got my ashtray today, looks new, it's quite nice!

Going back to the cigarette lighter, does anybody know why the manual tells you not to use the cigarette lighter as a power outlet, (without going and getting the book I think it says don't use for extended periods). I asked at the dealers and they didn't have a clue and I can't find anything on the tinterweb about it.

I'd like to kmow too. Perhaps it's just a different rating of fuse. To be honest, if they'd put the same warnings in the brochure as they put in the manual I'd have gone for the non-smoking option anyway - I wouldn't miss the 'ash tray' that much, and would prefer a power connection that's 'approved'. Perhaps that's another argument for putting the manual online, so that we could check these things out before purchase.

I think that was possibly what made me pick the no smoking pack

Not having a manual online is the one thing that does really bug me.......and can't think of any reason why not, could easily spend hours digesting the contents

If you select the non smoking pack what happens to the cigarette lighter in the back?

I couldn't agree more! I could while away my waiting hours learning how to use everything rather than asking so many questions ;)

Looks like I missed out on the continuation of this thread. Totally agree with the comments about my predicament and babies and what liquids/food/mess may grace the interior of my car. I can assure you, my wife and baby will be picking up the tab for the cleaning bill. If I stick to my guns, none of what SuffolkAudiMan/Daveotto have described will be happening in my car!!! Wife is getting annoyed with me telling her not to scratch interior door handles and scuffing the front door speakers with her feet when she gets out of the car. Dont get me started on her putting her fingers all over the dials on the dash and centre console. Those nails can remain retracted to herself!!! I'm sure Audi never intended for the dials to be operated with long nails. Ooops, looks like I lost it for a bit there. Oh my neighbour told me I have an OCD with the car. I apparently take too long detailing it. Only managed 6 hours on saturday and 40 mins vaccing the front. Hardly overdoing it. Back on topic:

My understanding was that the non-smoking option would remove the cigarette lighter /ports and replace with power connections. I overlooked the possibility of a cigarette port/lighter in the back. Will need to double check if there is one in the back. Can anyone who is in the know confirm if the smoking pack puts a lighter in the console in the back? I have sat in the back once and didnt notice.

Apologies for the length of this this post.

haha - Belfin, you beat me to the punch there.

SJW,

If you're in to detailing then I'd recommend getting some gtechniq I1 and L1 for the interior. That's what I'm counting on to protect my seats and carpets.

Audi replaces it with another 12v socket.

Cheers, Paul.

In mine, with the smokers pack, the back lighter has a 12v logo on it rather than a cigerate logo like the front one. not sure there is any difference other than that, ive used both to charge phones and had no proplems.

I'm sure Audi wouldn't put an entirely different wiring loom in just for the non smokers pack so I'm sure it's fine for most things.
Ok maybe not a fridge/cool box but will have one in the boot for that ;)

Shows how much attention I pay, it's a dummy plug!!!

I chose the 'non smokers pack' and I had the black plastic plug (above) fitted in the rear socket, and the chrome topped plug fitted in the front. Haven't even noticed if I have a socket in the boot!

Just checked the spec in the catalogue again and the S-Line lists the rear socket as 12V and you also get 12V in the boot ;)

Yeh, it comes with the Storage & Luggage package which is included with S-line, because you have to select it when you have leather seats.

i am in dispute with my dealer, I made a request for both the red and blue cables to be supplied with my car and I had the reply " all cables are available through the parts dept. at an additional cost"

When I picked my jaw off the ground I emailed back saying they should supply at least the red FOC. As usual I haven't had a reply.

Has Audi issued anything saying what should be supplied, does it say in the manual?

Update: The dealer has now said he will supply the cables and the ashtray FOC. (No smoking pack selected on order) But he is still maintaining that the mmi system doesn't come with cables as standard. But I am Happy.:icon_thumright:
