A3 vs S3 A power to weight thingy (cant think of a title thats best I can do lol)

Today I cleaned the car, discs went rusty colour (as they do).....so I just went out to shine the discs a bit, gets round the corner pullig out on to the main road (A63) and a rather nice looking silver 02 plate S3 8L with black roof and wheels passes, oooh I thought.

He wasn't supporting the ASN gang tattoo on his car BTW lol.

We ended up doing what you do, right foot down. I thought he would dust me, I thought wrong! I was attached to him! granted I couldn't get past but I was there just a wing away.

We ended up at some lights in town and he said "what u running" I proceeded to tell him the usual 1.8t K03s AUM s2kfilter std exhaust (till moday) and a map last time I checked was 203bhp (using maf values).........he was smiling till I told him that figure.

I asked what about you and he basically had everything inc miltek bla bla bla (very nice car tbh)......then the figure 330bhp to which I said calmly but smugly "wow really? I did quite well didn't I then?"

Then the lights changed and I quickly told him to visit ASN.

So if I have 203bhp and he had 330bhp how the fk did keep with him? Is this where the power to weight kicks in? or has my engine got a secret stash of nos? or is it he's not giving me a real figure? is he a pants driver? I dunno. I did notice he had a dodgy bottom end rattle when he set off, but that's it.

If he had a genuine 330bhp he'd of left you no problems.

My A3 which was 192bhp could keep with a standard 210bhp S3, there was nothing in it...

With the figures you've quoted, weight wouldn't matter

no way he was running 330.....maybe a stage 1 but there's no way you would have kept up.

it would be like you racing a standard a3

I'm sure Jardo will be along soon enough to tell you straight. I'd say he's bull****ting or it was running like a bag of nails. No way you'd stick to a 300bhp turbo'd car, if it was NA you might stand a bit of a chance
 
He doesn't have 330bhp.

Simples.

Removing the gearing from the equation the A3 could have *roughly* 50bhp less than the S3 and not get lost. Which tells me that he just had a stage 1 and was full of bs/thought it was the fastest car in the world ever.

Doesnt gazz and s3dave have silver s3's with black roof's? Just saying lol.

I can't comment about an A3 but I've gone up against a 200bhp Ibiza that's been completely stripped out and caged. We went to Bedford Autodrome last year and I could only real him in and pasd him above 100mph as I got into 5th gear!

So I think it is possible for a much lighter, less powered car to keep up but remember mine is only 300bhp and the Ibiza was completely stripped.

My ibiza - 620bhp - 1000kg

all thats lacking is traction, lol

and thats where quattro comes in, from standing start or wet conditions, otherwise once rolling, power to weight prevails

I had a guy in an Accord type r tell me his car was 440bhp turbo'd and the fastest thing in the world ever. So I let him pull out first and tucked in behind him.

He flashed his hazards one, two, three then put his foot down. I saw the car pull and heard it kick into vtec so I knew he was trying.

I had passed him before he even turned his hazards off.

About a week later I saw it for sale on Hondas Of Devon Facebook page. It was up for £1200, so I just asked "This is the one I saw briefly at the lights the other day? 440bhp turbo jobbie; where's the turbo gone?"

Matey deleted it then listed it on eBay a few days later.

Poor lad :(

if someone asks the power of my car, I give them the dyno figures but I would also add, "but every dyno is different and 281bhp is the most my car runs at that time in those conditions so who really knows?" I had a little play with a silver A3 with yellow tints on his headlamps, sounded pretty quick so I assumed it would be stage 2. Anyway I was on actuator pressure (albeit 1 bar) and was up his trumpet. That was pretty fast though, I did lift off a little in 3rd so I wouldn't hit him but never the less I was pretty impressed! the 1.8t engine is really good. Puts other newer engines to shame!

I always tell strangers I have 210bhp, this way, if I get blown away, no one posts up they just slayed a 300+ bhp S3! Lol

Would'nt "dare" more likely... get your **** handed to you.... Remembering its as fast if not a little faster tha tufftys GT30 S3 currently... and its 'only' on a k03... LOL

Beaten by a K03.. and a Lupo.. the disgrace of it :p

haha- every FWD/RWD owner loves a good old 30-70 sprint but when it's traffic light GP the majority bottle it.

you will be surprised...
Lupo 0-60 dash is 5sec, and thereafter does'nt hang about either :)
severe traction limited, but has gear based boost so not completely uncontrolled.. chirps in gears 1-3 then ful monty 4/5

with its aero... probably 130-140mph.. On its old K03s when first built it was ~200bhp and flat out at bruntingthorpe was 130mph..
100 bhp more now but I doubt it will make hige difference to top speed. Its shaped like a rounded house brick lol

long time ago since I did the PVW Magazine shoot out in it.. It was vs a MK1 K04 225 motor, which it beat in every speed category :)
I dont remember it being scarey.. 130mph not that fast.. its aero sux tho.. lol, like a brick wall it hit back then..
