I have read the stickies on fitting the front mount intercoolers to the s3's, but think I've missed where it says if it's a good idea to remove the connecting pipe or not?? I have just fitted an ah v2 to my car and in doing so have obviously modified the front bumper support bar. The thing that concerns me to be honest is that there isn't anything strong and structural infront of the engine now, as I've removed the connecting boost pipe! Am I wrong in doing this as I've also had to relocate the power steering cooler pipe too?! :/

Its not structural (A3's and other Mk4 chassis cars don't have this or anything like it fitted)... the LCR has an alloy pipe version of this and is held in with clips rather than bolted on... removal is completely up to you... I have removed mine and there are no adverse affects... Prawns A3 (arguably the best handling A3 on the forum) doesn't have one...
You will of course (as you have noticed) have to make a bracket of some description to support the PAS pipe... I made a small bracket for mine...

Use the cross pipe as an additonal CAI to the filter area, if you have a cone style filter, and you should do 
You can have CAI feed from left and right sides of the bumber with some additional piping.
Could also use it to direct more air onto an side mounted oil cooler.

Ok thanks for your comments guys.. Much appreciated!! I noticed that other mk4 plarform cars dont have them but was just concerned as there's nothing infront of he subframe to take the stress whilst cornering etc. I've cut my bumper support bar righy down to the point where its only purpose is to hold the cooler in place lol.

It's about 6 bolts, easy peasy. It's just fixing the pipes some how. I might just bust out the tie wraps.

Mate ive not been on the spanners since christmas properly and when I did last month it resulted in me been £200 lighter due to me disturbing my mates **** up that he did on my sump haha.

It's **** easy dani. 3 bolts either side. On the passengers side there's a plate that holds up the plastic under tray thing, just pop that back on. Make some brackets like tuffty as they look simple enough! I'll probably do mine in the weekend.
hehe same here. "Oh ill do it next time, CBA doing it this time, I'm too hungry" lol. I always end up saying that to myself!
I've been saying that about everything I've done to the car whilst the projects lasted.. Hence why it's taken coming up to two years to complete it lol

Out of interest while it fresh in your memory can you elaborate on how you did the brackets to hold up the PS pipe? did you use ties or fashion something more substantial?
As gonna have a mini tinkering session 2moro after work and this defo looks like a good job to do so any pointers would be v useful.

Cable ties are a mans best friend
1 tie round the plastic section of the water pipe that goes into the rad on the passenger side. Then a 2nd on the drivers side through a hole in the rad fans casing stuff. Nice and tight. All good.

I thought about a bracket but just couldn't be ***** and cable ties were quicker. I'll keep an eye on it to make sure its ok.

Cable ties FTW
Removed said pipe on both mine and Futures cars last night. Took about 30mins per car once up in the air on stands. Used 2 cable ties and the PS pipe is nice and secure.
So well worth the effort and I have some more bits to add to the collection in the shed

Well finaly got my lazy **** into car mode after losing interest.
Removed the pipe today, nice and easy apart from the searing sun, even made a proper bracket for the pas pipe, no cable ties here haha.
One thing though, mine pas pipe is looking shot to ****e, its heavily rusted, whats the procedure for renewing this?
Ooh and how much easier is it to get to the oil filter now, worth doing it just for that.
