I had a boost leak on my 2006 A3 and had a read around the web and found that the seals wernt rated very well.

i bought some new seals and replaced them and the sound i though was a leaky seal was still there......

i was out in the car yesterday all day in the sunshine :) and the noise got really loud. After inspection found that boost pipe after the intercooler had half come out. i popped it back in and 5 minutes later BANG..... it comes off again........

i got home and had a better look...........

Worn ^^^^

the lugs that the clip round the intercooler socket hold on to had worn right down and wouldnt grip the hose.

im now waiting on a new one from audi £32 get it on thursday :)

yh i had that happen to mine last week... random pop while driving away from a traffic light. what a poor design! not even a jubilee clip to secure it into place.

how do you get to the intercooler? i think mines come off too

interesting this, what sort of noise were u getting before the pop?

A compressed air leak would be the only way i could describe it every time the
Turbo was boosting and then sounded normal on tick over

Thats exactly what im getting, it ruins the sound of the turbo do you agree? and it makes u embarrassed to put your foot down.

did replacing the pipe sort this out?

Iv been driving round cautiously for the past 4 days and didn't blow The pipe off
got it fitted today I have full power again
Its still quite noisy turbo wise but all bkd turbos are noisy there renowned for it
But not the same air leaking noise as the new pipe sorted that

i agree, the turbos sound like ****. My girlfriends dads bmw turbo sounds lush. jealous

old thread to drag up but, i've lost boost up until around 2500rpm.
although mine is a 170, I've ran DPF cleaner, blasted the car and ran EGR Valve cleaner... still the same. Feels like the power is urging to release, but nothing... think it could be something similar?

Not sure in how your boost pressure is regulated on the 170s maybe worth looking for a split in vacuum hoses.....

Might be controlled electronically though but still best having a look first may be something small ....

Just had the fuel filter out, it's jet black with crud all round the bottom, can't even see to the bottom of the canister it's black!
Hopefully this is the cause...

I'd clean the entire fuel filter casing and then fill it with injector cleaner before replacing the filter.
