I've just bought the gateway pro BT kit with the cradle for the I phone for my 2003 allroad, it has the symphony 2 head unit with Bose. I was wondering if any one has experience with this set-up and could give me some feedback on it?As my steering wheel doesn't have phone controls I know the phone side of the kit won't work, what would be involved in fitting the MFSW to a '03 plate Allroad? Cheers Chris.

Depends on the mfsw wheel you wanted, if the newer style then that's a fun job to do as requires others parts of say the 8P chassis to make work to register the signals.

Older style with 4 spoke airbag requires a bit of work but doesn't look very nice, not sure of the total costs of top of my head, PM me & we can work it out for you.

Putting the genuine steering wheel on is not that difficult to do, it depends on your requirements for auto controls etc, if you have an auto box. The slip ring requires at least 2 pins free, preferably 3 for the wheel controls lin bus and power.

Finding a suitable controller is the hardest part, I bought one from the states for about £45 + shipping & taxes and the A6 wheel was about £40. There are plenty of controllers on ebay, but you need one that supports can bus for your symphony II and dension setup.

Basically what you are looking for is the 616 variant controller. 4B9 907 487 F

The wiring is straight forward enough.

Car has a 3 spoke wheel with tip G'box controls. Not sure which steering wheel to replace it with looking for as standard as possible.

Well you would have to find a 4 spoke MFSW with TIP controls from ebay, there are a couple on there for around £100. They never made a 3 spoke MFSW in single airbag configuration required for your car.

I have just put a 4 spoke MFSW onto my A2, I had a 3 spoke wheel with MF but the airbag light kept activating in cold weather and of course no guarantee that the wrong type of airbag would work in a crash and the installer could be liable for any injuries if the airbag does not deploy and the insurers investigate.

So I would get the right wheel for your car, 4 spoke MFSW with single stage airbag and TIP controls.

I think this is the right controller for you....

And for a steering wheel... well your looking for something like this but with paddles just above the buttons...

Thanks Craig that's some good info, I'm guessing that this will all need coding to the car. I quite like the 4 spoke mfsw but that rs6 is a bit pricey.

Should roughly be coded already if you have a controller from an existing car. May need a bit of tweaking afterwards.

I have a good write up but it's in German, but it shows the wiring and a lot of information I can send you.

Half way through fitting the Denison unit at the moment will post some pics when finished the sound quality is good with my iPhone. And DIS on dash works. Next step is MFSW to get the BT phone side working, might have to put that off till we've moved house though as it could be quite expensive.

Make sure it has the latest firmware installed, the GW PRO had a tendency to flatten batteries in Audi's.
Joy just fitted it and hid box behind the glove box will have to pop it out to do the s/w download. I've already downloaded the software from there web site. The kit is really good came with the iPhone cradle and was straight plug and play. DIS shows track info and can skip tracks using radio controls. Will check if there's a drain tomorrow does anyone know how long the shut down time is and roughly how many amps parasitic draw a 2003 2.5 tdi allroad should have.

I'm using a 616, but I think for the can bus and auto box you need a 619, I've only done this once on my manual A2 and the 616 was what I used.

On that link I put on it says 618 controller for tip-tronic but I think if it says can and tip-tronic it would be OK

Just had a thought Chris, if you have TIP controls now then surely you have a MFSW controller in place.

With VCDS you can check and connect to the controller and see if it can be programmed for RADIO & TEL buttons. If it can then it may be a simple case of swapping the steering wheel.

Good point Craig I'll have to have a look under the dash and see if there's a controller fitted to the relay plate under there and if so what type. Cheers Chris.

Well MFSW not needed now just tested the BT and phone function works perfectly so don't need the steering wheel. It has a external microphone so like a standalone BT kit. Overall pretty happy with the dension set up, sound quality excellent easy to fit and cradle looks good so doesn't spoil the interior.

On the phone I have it set so it doesn't lock so just 1 touch to answer a call which keeps it legal.

The only way it is legal is if the phone is physically inserted into a dash mounted cradle, which I believe yours is, otherwise touching a phone at all whilst moving is illegal.
