like i said earlier the advanced key for me is a luxury i didn't mind paying for, i think the ease of just walking up to the car and just pulling the door handle to get in and pressing the auto start button on the console to start the car is cool, wether its cool enough for people to cough up the £425 for this option is another matter. i have found lately that i dont use the door handle much to lock the doors but rather the key fob, now some of you might think that is strange, i dont use the fob to open or use the key to start but use the fob to lock, this is mainly because i hardly use the car myself as we have 3 kids im probably the 1st one out of the car then have the keys in my hand to open the house doors, i found myself standing near the drivers door at 1st waiting for everyone to get out the car and close their doors before i pressed the door handle to lock the car. sounds strange but everyone to their own

I just started the electronics while sitting inside so that I could roll down the window and try the outer door handle without using the interior one - even now the doors are STILL locked.
i'm confused!!!!!
If someone can tell me if the following sequence of events would work with advance key, I will add the option.
Scenario is have house and car key on single fob, and leave home and lock front door, car is locked, and put key fob into my man bag/laptop bag and then hope this would happen.......
1. walk up to boot and can open up without using key fob
2. Put bag into boot and close boot
3. Open drivers door
4. Start car with button
5.drive to work
6.arrive at work, switch car off with button
7. open drivers door, get out, close drivers door
8. Go to boot and open boot, remove bag, close boot
9. Walk away from car and car locks itself, once out of range.....
Or for final stage would I need to lock car with fob?

I reckon you will have to either lock the car with the fob or simply touch the door handle to lock the car, which is easier!

one thing i have just tried and it works a treat
the car is locked, you walk up to the rear of the car and you can open the boot. then when you close the boot the car is still locked

Notice the flash of the indicators to show alarm is on?
I do wonder what happens if the keys are left/put in the boot by mistake?
If its anything like my old Prius, it won't lock if there is a key inside. I found that out when I left my spare in there when I first got it. They do think of these things ;-)
If I reversed onto the drive it would be key fob, pull on frontwards and it's touch the little indentation on the handle
i hope that the fob is still in range in the boot as that's where I put my laptop bag, and that's the cool bit being able to start the car without the key being in the main cabin........will have to pay a visit to the dealer in the next few days to have a play with one, if they have one available, unless anyone else on here can confirm.

Guys, guys, guys, chill out. Look at the video I shot and you can see how sensitive the car is to having the key inside. Like me and Peterdona have already said further back in the thread, if you lock the car then open only the boot, you're unable to close the boot lid with the still inside - it pops itself back open.
And just to reiterate the other thing we've both posted about - it doesn't lock once you're simply out of range (that would be dangerous - unless you tell the car otherwise by tapping your lock button twice on the door / fob, Audi's locking system activates the deadlock by default, so any kids etc. inside would be trapped simply because you'd gone more than 1.5m or so).
However, cars these days (at least as far back as my Fiesta from 2006, and including the new A3) lock themselves after about 10 mins of engine inactivity. That's nothing to do with the advanced key, though.

Thanks, strange as it sounds I wanted to be able to leave the key in the boot and drive off.......off my additional options list now, despite still thinking its rather cool!

Ah-hah, the devil is in the detail... I said you can't *lock* the car doors then open the boot and leave your key inside. If the doors are unlocked when the key gets chucked in, I think you might get away with it.
I'll give it a go when I get out of work tonight.
Would the issue here not be that you'd need to go to the door, unlock the car, go to the boot, place bag in, then return to the door to get into the car?

Tru dat - I guess having the key inside isn't enough to say "i'm here!" or car jackers would be able to get in too.
To unlock the car all you need to do is brush your hand on the inside of the handle, so if you approach from the front to go to the boot then it's really no hassle. Otherwise... Hmm.

Good video, thanks for posting. I was surprised they haven't changed the design of the key to that of the A5 etc without the flip blade

Not sure what happens with a hatch or SB, as the tailgate doesn't spring open, like a Saloon boot lid!

They wouldn't as the A5 has a dashboard slot for the key rather than the 'older' 8v with the column lock.
I noticed some problems on my keyless. I often have issues to open and lock the door on the passenger side(in my case the right door).
Sometimes it doesn't work to unlock/lock the door. Drivers side works mostly fine (sometimes there is the same issues also). But mostly ok.
Talked to a technician about it. He checked for any error messages in the system but there was none. The antenna should be in the handle and apparently there can be some issues if the paint is too tick. Quite annoying when you have to use the key, when you have keyless.

Might sound stupid but have you tried chucking a new battery in the key? I honestly can't see paint thickness affecting it... You can surely only be talking 20-30 microns dft difference in the tolerances...

But yeah, haven't changed the battery. But the car is only 3 months old...So the key battery should not be old. But who knows. Maybe I should try.

Gotta be worth a try... Could just be a duff battery from the supplier... I had problems with keyless on my old Astra VXR and that turned out to just be the battery dying...although that was 3 yrs old when it went. You might even find that taking the battery out and putting it back in might "reset" the fob (Although don't leave it out too long... As it may then need recoding!!) and fix any bug that there might be...
