I have ordered my new A3 with non smokers pack. Does this mean I will lose that cool looking cup thing. Much appriciated.

ebay for £15... though it's been 6 days since I've ordered and haven't even got a notification that it's been dispatched yet.

I originally ordered the non-smoking pack but asked the dealer to provide the ashtray with the chrome/audi logo on collection. I forget who set up a thread called the Snagging List but in that thread it covered the non/smoking pack and what you would lose/gain. I think it is worth keeping and echoe the thoughts of others that it does double up nicely as a place to store lose change etc...

The chrome Audi logo on it does look a nice touch in an already great looking cabin.

Cemerson - why have you ordered it from E-bay. I asked the dealer for it despite the fact I had selected a non-smoking pack. Can you not ask your dealer to provide?

Perhaps, but I'm not too fussed. I'm already going to be asking for as many different AMI cables as I can, don't want to push it :p

I'm happier with the 12V 'socket' as opposed to a cigarette lighter so I'm glad I did it this way round in any case.

haha - that is one area I slipped up on. I should have asked for as many cables as possible. I understand that you do not want to push your luck. :) I've recently got the iphone5 upgrading from the first iphone4 and the AMI cable does not connect to it. Can only connect via USB or bluetooth. No biggie really and I am sure I can get an adapter or something later on.

Fully understand regarding the 12V socket. I actually thought when I opted for the non-smoking pack I would get the 12v instead of the cigarette lighter and obtain the ashtray from the dealer. Quite strange that the car had the cigarette lighter in place. I think this might have been the only part of the order that was incorrect. So for those choosing the non-smoking pack you may want to double check you do not have the lighter on collection.

I've done exactly the same cemerson, and for the same reasons. I ordered mine 5 days ago and it hasn't dispatched yet either.

Same here, ordered mine 6 days ago from a seller called "Hanban*10" and still not showing as dispatched.

Are you guys on about the ceramic mug?
I was looking at ordering one of those, might not now :S!

No we're talking about the black/chrome ashtray that comes with the smokers pack.

I just got an e-mail in the last hour to say it was dispatched.

Yeh I'm not worried about getting it, but definitely not shipped as fast as they said on the page - this will be reflected in the feedback :)

i am in dispute with my dealer, I made a request for both the red and blue cables to be supplied with my car and I had the reply " all cables are available through the parts dept. at an additional cost"

When I picked my jaw off the ground I emailed back saying they should supply at least the red FOC. As usual I haven't had a reply.

Has Audi issued anything saying what should be supplied, does it say in the manual?

I haven't collected the car yet, build week is next week, I contacted them to finalise details i.e. no dealership sticker, ring me with reg. numbers available. And in this email I asked if they would supply both red and blue cables with my tech pack.
I am still waiting for a reply, but going on past experience, I will need to send multiple requests to get an answer.

In which case you should find it comes with a blue cable as a minimum, and some dealers are swapping it for the red cable. I can't remember anyone saying they had both chucked in for free, but you might be able to negotiate it. I had the costs from the dealer last week for the cables, and they are about £35 each.

I have the tech pack, so shouldn't I get the red cable? I was trying my luck getting both, but didn't expect the dealer not to supply any unless I bought them. Tech pack £1500 and they expect me to pay for a cable to use it. Lol

I thought the blue was for normal system, red for tech pack. It defeats the object of the tech pack if you can't display album art work etc.
again £1500 premium other standard system you expect to get the better cable.

The only relevant bit I could find in the brochure is:
"Audi Music Interface (AMI) – provides connection to Apple iPod from 4th generation and Apple iPhone, as well as USB storage media and MP3 players"
As all A3s come with AMI, you should get sufficient cables to do all of the above.

If I can just tack onto this thread as it seems quite appropriate...

Has anyone with the 12v socket in the boot checked if it's live when the ignition is off or whether the ignition has to be on?

Got a funny feeling it's the latter which is really annoying.

(I can't check right now as the car is at the dealer and I'm just curious)

Good question and brings us sort of back on topic.

I am hopeful it is always live because the official Audi cool box has a feature to prevent deep discharge.

Yeah I'm sure it was always live in my old cars but not sure about the 8V. Was away at the weekend at Le Mans so in a field and dependent on cars for power and all the sockets in both a Merc C Class and VW Passat needed the ignition to be on to work which was totally useless as you couldn't leave the car when charging stuff.

The boot socket would be ideal for putting stuff on charge, hidden away in the boot, then locking the car and leaving it.

I'm sure the normal system displays artwork too. The cable just denotes the phone / iPod compatibility. Blue for older generation without artwork, red for newer with artwork.

I was given the red cable with my car, asked for the blue one as well, parts chap appeared with the cable " that'll be £36 please" I declined the offer. Was told iPhone 5 cable won't be available until September, Bought a lightning adaptor cable that attatches to the red cable and it works fine.

The dealership should give you the option then, not just supply it with standard blue, old generation apple devices when most people will have new iPhone 4 etc.
But to say I need to pay for a cable is wrong.

what happened to good old customer service, the days when the dealer would throw in a couple of goodies, tank full of petrol, flowers in the back for the wife, now it's, lets see how much money we can make! Sod the customer there just the cheque book.

You should get at least one of the apple device cables and at least one USB cable. Otherwise the brochure is misleading.

i could have had the blue instead but the parts man said it was the red one I would need. This works ok with my iPod and my iPhone 5 with the adaptor. I must admit I thought they would of just given it to me but never mind.

Well the brochure says provides connection to USB storage devices and MP3 players.

And 'MP3 Players' I'm going to argue means I should get the standard audio jack one too...

Well the Mrs tells me my ashtray off eBay has arrived. She says its got ash in it, which doesn't reflect the description of " new".

Oh... mine is marked as dispatched, so may get it later today. Will have to see what it's like.

There have been a few other threads about the cable, andmost, including myself, received the cables with car on pick up, even changingto the red with no problem. thought you received it as part of the deliveredcar?

Regarding the non smokers pack, not sure why you'd spec it,as i thought instead of a lighter you just got a cap to go over the socket?still works the same with or without lighter?? and you don’t get the cup, whicheveryone then seems to want. wouldn’t it be easier / cheaper? to keep smokerpack, get the cup, then just ask for the cap and remove the lighter?

I didn't know if the 12V socket was wired/fused differently to the lighter as they have have different power requirements... and also didn't know if it would be a flip up cover for teh 12V socket (not as easy to retrofit) or just a plug... and didn't know the ashtray was a separate item that's easily removed - didn't want a built in one. Doesn't really matter which way around you do it I think.

They don't make it exactly clear in the book do they !!

Retrospect is a wonderful thing, I would leave it selected next time. My ashtray from EBay arrived today, fab looks good and a bargain at £15.
