Hi all,

The glovebox in my 2004 A3 8P 3 door drops down sharply when you operate the open handle. Is it possible to replace just the gas strut rather than the entire glovebox unit and if so does anyone know the part number?

Cheers,
Jimbo

As far as I'm aware the part is not sold separately. Most people just repair the existing one.

Yes, remove glovebox, separate the broken part from the brake element, super glue the 2 parts together on the lid to give it a position, then coat the break in araldite going up/down the shaft as such or some 2 pack resin, allow to harden for 24 hours, whilst this is drying open the tube/brake element, whack some grease inside, work back/forth, then refit the tube lid & test in hand its moving, then refit to the glovebox, make sure the lid of the tube is fitted the right way round or the glovebox light (if fitted) wont work properly.

Also if you cant be bothered to repair, I have some gloveboxes available with working arms etc :)

Thank you very much for the instructions. How much is a glovebox? If I can afford it then it might make more sense than trying to repair it.
