What is it about genuine Audi parts that they are so expensive? Is it make or are they really that much better?
From my experience price difference is up to 60%.
What do you think / know guys?

They're that expensive because they are genuine, made from good materials and made at a high standard.

All the cheap things like, skirts, spoilers etc.... are made cheaply and most of the time dont fit correctly and need double what you paid to fit them!

Buy cheap, buy twice IMO.

(Says me running rep alloys :faint:)

Which is why we got to TPS to get genuine parts at discounted prices! Or buy used, depending in what you are afte?

Yep - as jojo said....

TPS or second hand.....

There are some things that are ridiculously priced IMO - the (Hella?) OEM lights in the 8L S3 are £500 a piece...so £1000 in headlights will be added on a bill if you have a front end crash! I mean considering you can get S3's from as little as the late £2ks now- that's mad!

Also explains why there are a lot of nice Audi's being broken all the time - means more parts for us though :D

Alot of my non-VAG mates have always gone on about how I'm always broke or have large garage bills....

Now two of them both have a Leon Cupra and Golf GTI on the Mk4 paltform....they have started to understand why after coming from Jap stuff

If you know the right places to get genuine Audi parts they don't have to be that expensive

and a b7 wing mirror glass is 52+ from audi
i got 1 from GFS fot 18+ and its in oem box

Is it not the same with most genuine parts though? Japanese car parts and even Ford parts costs loads from the dealer!

Haha- yes in a way....but the OEM parts are that crap that it doesn't make much difference if you buy a part of ebay or from the dealer! You're more than likely going to get something of equivalent quality anyway :D lol

It's like anything, sometimes OEM is just a rebranded item from a OE supplier (say Bosch sensors that can be had from ECP for much less than OEM but are exactly the same item!), you juat need to be savvy. Certain things have to be OE - anything cosmetic for example (can't beat OEM fit) and certain other critical engine/driveline parts OE is always going to be better quality. You just need to smart as to where you spend the extra on OE and when it's ok to save your hard-earnt and visit ECP/GSF.

Slightly off topic. Shotgun cartridge comparison. Gamebore white gold £5.20 a box. Kent Velocity £3.80 a box. Same cartridge, both made by Gamebore in the same factory using the same components.

If they are the same thing does the brand name really matter, like OEM and Bosch?

Of course not, if you know for a fact it's the same as OEM! Same thing with cambelt kits, if you but a Gates cambelt kit, it usually classed as OEM, as they manufacture the OEM kits, but buying the Gates kit, you lose the Audi/VW logo on the belt.

Seriously? The Bosch sensors are one of the main items I will always buy OEM of tbh.

Been there done that with other makes of sensors from ECP/GSF for various things on my vehicle and they have failed within a few months and/or been poor fitment - considering some of the sensors are a PITA to change and get to, it makes sense to just fit the genuine part.
