Hi All,
I cant seem to find on the service book when an S3 (59 plate) needs to have the timing belt and water pump replaced. I believe its 5 years or 60000 miles. Can anyone confirm this for me please? Any reason apart from the obvious to get them replaced sooner? I haven't read any horror storys about belts snapping before their time.

Cheers!

I always get the whole lot changed at 60k or 4 years whichever comes first.

5yr or 60k is a sound plan. A belt can snap at any mileage..it's often pot luck.
Local indy charge me £330 all in, incl VAT for the two belts, water pump and pulleys.

Thanks for that. £330 sounds like a good price from what I have seen so far.

Thanks for the response Chris. Is that your own person preference or the Audi guidelines?

Own personal preference confirmed by my service advisor in Audi.

75k or 5 years whichever soonest.

What's yours at now Colin?

I am thinking along the same time frame/mileage as you mate just don't want to part with the cash unless its really necessary. Im going in to Audi tomorrow so ill ask the service department whilst I try and get a module replaced under warranty. :banghead:

Well depends how quick that goes up, but a friend of mine whose a mastertech at audi could come along & do yours if need be if I'm coming back for anything :)

I'll ask him what he would charge.

Definitely interested only problem is I need the booked stamped and a VAT invoice mate. I suppose it would also need to be on the Audi computers as well. Warranty rules lol.

Whilst we are on the subject is there anything worth uprating near the belt and pump whilst they are being done? Is there an uprated belt or water pump or any need for either. I presume there would be a better belt but cant see the need for a better pump lol? I am planning at someone point go to stage 2+. Just not now lol.

Only do about 7K a year normally. I intend to walk to work some times now to keep the mileage down. I should be walking there all the time as its only 20mins but I enjoy my sleep too much..

Mine is 5yrs old in September but only currently on 28k.

Anyone any idea how much a stealer would charge for belt, pump, tensioner, cam follower etc?

I'm guessing about £600 :(

Audi fixed pricing "Cam Belt" £439. No further description on what that includes but definitely wont be including the water pump.

Audi done mine all in including full cambelt kit and waterpump for £300.

Had a full oil and inspection service done at the same time.

As HNH said and the Audi site also says 5 years or 75K miles for belt.

That almost seems worth doing as a precaution then. Which dealer was this chris? With my luck I can guarantee now where near me lol..

I should add I am in NW London...

I wouldn't go anywhere near Watford Audi. Aylesbury quoted me a very good price when I was looking for the change and like NHN said, it is 75K or 5 Years

Is that the audi warranty or aftermarket?

Got the Audi warranty until August and then it will be aftermarket. Its the aftermarket company that asks for the VAT invoice, book stamped ect..

Dont bother with Aftermarket - total waste of your time and money.

WarrantyWise done me out of £300 and 4 wasted months of too-ing and fro-ing when my Megane (full Renault history, 79k, 2007) suffered big end failure when it was 2 months off being 4 years old. They said it wasn't sudden (well it was!) and that was that. Money down the drain for the warranty and had to fork out for a replacement engine and all the labour.

Not to mention 4 months of depreciation on my A6 doing 600 miles a week during that time as I didn't have a replacement.

I've had Audi Extended Warranty on both my Audi's (www.audiextendedwarranty.co.uk) and not one problem, never one claim rejected and all I have to do is sign a document and thats that.

I have a note scrawled in my service log at 45k saying "Water pump and timing belt changed at dealer expense" ... Now im just over 60k and due a service not sure if I trust that note ...

is there any way to check this out?

Sounds suspicious 0o - why at 45K and that too at dealer's expense? Which dealer is that good?

If it's with Audi, ring them and they will tell you, if not on book already.

Audi's book price iirc is £430+water pump, so your looking around £530-£550 fitted for the whole lot. I paid £430 inc water pump @ Preston Audi, great service. Cambelt is usually 60k or 5 years, but believe Nigel is right, around 75k on the A3.

My local Audi main dealer just quoted £549, so you're spot on.
