Hi

Am new here and looking for my 1st Audi.

As I know very little about car mechanics and have a tight budget (or none should anything go wrong), I have narrowed my search to a 3.2 Quattro Tiptronic.

I would love a S4 / RS6 - but a £15k budget would mean an older car (I prefer a B8).

I chose the 3.2 coz the 2.0T is turbo and just another component to go wrong?

Would appreciate help in what I should look out for when buying a 3.2 Quattro tip?
And potential known issues with them.

And anyone LPG them before?

Cheers all.

The 2.0TFSI is a cracking engine (well apart from the oil consumption problems that they all seem to suffer from!).
Quite a few of the guys on here have had remaps which apparently, in the case of the REVO, transforms it into a bit of a beast!

I personally would prefer the 3.2 v6 but most people here prefer the 2.0 tfsi.
with the 3.2 coupled with DSG, the DSG can be remapped to make the car go quicker.

The 2.0 TFSI is amazing.
It does use allot of oil but now mine is at 21000 miles i must admit is calming down using allot. You can Revo Remap the engine to 300 BHP like mine and the performance is immense !
I think more people prefer the 2.0TFSI and i think it will be easier to sell rather than the 3.2 once you have finished with it.
The 2.0TFSI is also cheaper to run than the 3.2 in emissions and fuel economy. The 2.0TFSI has also got more torque but the 3.2 has more bhp at 265 Bhp but the 2.0TFSI can be remapped past that if you are interested in a remap.
The turbo also sounds nice on the 2.0TFSI and has a lovely whistle when remapped.
My advice is you test drive both and see which you think is best because different people like different engines.

Cheers guys.

Some say the standard 3.2 have a nicer sound thn the standard 2.0T?

i did have a look at the figures, thy look quite similar in performance / mpg / tax / insurance.
Based on 2008-10 figures?

assume the newer models with start/stop is better on the wallet?

Would a remap void the dealer extended warranty?

heard of some mappings that come with a switch (which u can flick to switch to standard box)?

If they can prove it has been remapped they will void your warranty i suppose. Mine is remapped and still in warranty and i have had it back for bits such as the dynamik body kit coming loose and not had a problem.
Yeah. Some people prefer them but some people prefer remaps.
If you are going to go with one of them then take a look at Diesel Tuning UK LTD | Improved Diesel Performance And Economy | Digital Diesel Tuning Box and find 8k 2.0l tfsi and 8k 3.2.
I cant see any figures but if you give them a ring i am sure they will give you the figures you will gain.

Mpg is the same between the two? Really?

I was looking at the 3.2 when I bought mine but ended up going for the 3.0Tdi because it's much more tunable and get better economy than the 3.2l for sure. And actually makes a pretty nice noise when you sink the foot! :)

I thought i saw on Parkers 3.2 abt 29mpg
and 2.0T 30mpg (pre start/stop)?

i could be wrong...

Ahh that's the b7 your looking at i presume ?

If you are looking at the B8 the "Start/Stop" version then here are the figures between a typical Automatic Saloon 3.2FSI and the 2.0TFSI.

3.2 FSI
215 g/km Emissions Band K

Fuel consumption (urban)21.6 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban)40.4 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined)30.4 mpg
0 - 62 mph6.4 seconds
Top speed155 mph
Cylinders6
Valves24 v
Engine power265 bhp
Engine torque243 lbs/ft

2.0 TFSI
175 g/km Band I

Fuel consumption (urban)30.1 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban)44.1 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined)37.7 mpg
0 - 62 mph6.5 seconds
Top speed150 mph
Cylinders4
Valves16 v
Engine power211 bhp
Engine torque258 lbs/ft

Also just bare in mind if your looking for performance then you gain considerably more figures from a remap on the 2.0TFSI than you can the 3.2FSI.

Here some examples:

I would not recommend LPG at all. I know 2 firemen both brothers and the both say whenever they attend a car fire 95% of the time it is due to LPG. The gas heats and expands. I suppose it would be okay if it were done professionally but still i would never have it done even if it were.

Are you looking for an Auto. Is Quattro Compulsory or not ?

Cheers Dynamik!

Sorry my fault - has another look at Parkers - so confusing!

Wow - 7mpg diff!!!
OK - I want the 2.0T now!

Just test drove a 2008 A4 3.2 Tip Quattro (B8?)
Wasn't that impressed with the low power - but nice sound when window closed.

I like my 2012 A4 1.8T Tip courtesy car more!

With a £15k budget.
I like better mpg / insurance
But must be auto/Quattro (prefer Avant).

So what do u recommend?

That FIRST link is the car I just test driven!!! Lol

Yes mate - way out of budget.
Not sold on the grille look.
Its only a "S" trim?

At least the stereo buttons on dash (the car I tested today stereo button next to gear stick - 2008 model).

This avant also has the small gear stick?
My courtesy car 2012 had bigger shorter gear stick (auto)?

Cheers mate for looking!

Okay no problems.
Its an allroad that one.
The Buttons you see on the dash will only be next to the gear stick if the car has got sat nav and there will also be the extra button "Nav there and something else i think cant remember.

The smaller gear stick is the manual and the bigger gear stick is the auto along with the paddles on the steering wheel.

The 2008 S-Line Quattro Tip 3.2 i tested:

Ahh okay.
So are you putting a deposit on the one you had a test drive in ?? ;)

Nearly did - but they couldnt come to a price I like!

Can I ask - I like the lights/DRLs on that car I driven.
Which cars have them?
Certainly the newer courtesy car didn't :-(

And how do I spot a B8?

Dealers never match the price you want. Watch now they will ring you up everyday offering you better each time when eventually they reach your price. Always happens with me !
Find some damage on it like a stone chip or a kerbed wheel or a tyre with some low tread and ask them to knock abit off because of it and it usually works.

The Car you drove was a B8 With the LED Daytime Running Lights. The Led brake lights and Daytime Running Lights come standard on the S-Line and you do not get them on the SE.
The Courtesy car you have is a B8 (Facelift) basically an updated model of the B8. You can tell if it is one of them with Running Lights it has got which is solid rather than dotted Led. Again, the Running lights come with the S-Line.
The B8 is 08 Registration onwards the one you test drove. 62 onwards is the B8 Facelift the (the courtesy car)
Also the B8 Facelift (Courtesy) has little tweaks on it like the Running lights, different grille + front end, White Led temperature digits.

This is a A4 B7. 2004-2008. These do not come with Led Daytime Running Lights as standard and do not let anybody tell you different if they come to sell it you.

Cheers!

I prefer the B8 pre-FL!!!
am I different then?

I have a feeling I might settle for that car I driven -
if they ring me with a better offer!

But I think I need to test a 2.0T now.
And I prefer avant too...

Are Audi extended worth paying for ?
Or someone like warrantyDirect better?

No problem my friend :)

Well i suppose that's your opinion. I still love the B8 Pre facelift but you get used to seeing them so when the new one comes it i suppose its like a change if you wish. But with mine as it is special and there is only a limited amount then it does look amazing. I would only swap it for a facelift if it was an exclusive one. I also love the S4 Facelift one with Coloured Super Sport Seats as they are something quite special again, so i might be in one of them next i don't know. Well its either a S4 Facelift Jaguar XF or Bmw 330d X drive.
Click on my signature and have a look at Pictures of my car if you wish.

I do like the look of the A4 you drove today though, Looks well specced and a good car for the money.

Keep a look out there might be something you like better turn up. Have a go in 2.0T though before you make you decision as it is a fantastic engine. And about the Warranty, sorry Im not the person to ask for that

Most people prefer the pre-facelift B8. Nicer lights and fog lights.

Defo try the 2.0TFSi. I LOVE the power and I 'only' have a standard one. The guys that have had theirs re-mapped absolutely rave about it!

Don't go after market warranty. Not worth the paper their printed on!!!! Trust me I know. My car is out of warranty and Audi have paid for virtually anything I have needed done on the car as good will because I have kept up the service history with Audi. I wouldn't bother with a warrenty personally. Just keep up your Audi service history.

Yeah that's correct ^
Has it got Fash ? (Full Audi Service History)
Keep servicing it at Audi and keep your mileage down and get your MOT there and they will look after you if anything goes wrong.

I have just seen this on the bottom of the Autotrader advert "All cars price checked - minimum 12 month platinum warranty included - all cars history and mileage verified - buy with confidence. Whatever your motoring needs JUST SEE JCT600."

Get an MOT at audi and if anything needs doing then use that Warranty to repair whatever it is.

Thanks Scottish!
I like the FL fogs though :)

So u suggest no warranty at all?
And go to Audi for service (or Indy)?

Am thinking about remapp.
But would insurance shoot up?

Car body work looks mint, dynamik!

Wot does your plate mean?

I get mine serviced at an indy because my mate does it for me cheap but uses all Audi genuine parts etc.. It worked £400 cheaper for a set of tyres with my mate doing it rather than Audi. I cant really comment on the warranty i am not sure sorry. And the insurance don't know about the remap and they wont find out either hahah ;) My Registration is G9COD and Cod is fish as i own a Fish & Chip Shop.
If you get a remap it will only make a tiny difference to the 3.2FSI but if you get a 2.0TFSI then you can get a Revo Remap like me to 300 BHP and the car is out of this world. 0-60 in 5.5 from original 6.6.

U recommend that 3.2?
It do sent even have rear parking sensors :-(

Service history:
15k Audi (Milton Keynes)
31k Audi (Milton Keynes)
38 Audi (York)
2 owners

Is there a section here on dealer reviews?

Good Audi Service History there.
It does have parking sensors ? thats abit of a let down ! I suppose you could get them retrofitted but that is another expense again.
And i don't think so.

Nah it dosent :-(
I was surprised for a S-Line!

salesman said he could fit some (Vauxhall ones)-
Not sure if he meant FREE or at a cost ...

One thing I find the Tipronic a bit strange.

When u start car up on a slope - the car rolls down the slope until a few seconds has passed?!!!
Do sent the Tipronic has a torque converter?

I meant to say doesn't doh ! I am surprised too.
I wouldn't get any vauxhall ones on if they are free or not tbh.
i did notice that one at grange but I saw it doesn't have nav (buttons round gear sticks) and no leather and no avant and no running lights like you want so I left it. That one at grange though is still a lovely car.

Not sure about that. Never heard about that.

Sorry - it was the courtesy car that did that (multitronic auto?)
Some say multitronic not reliable?
Tiptronic OK?
S-tronic the best?

Excuse my nativity - but what's special about your car?

Audi have fixed price servicing that is very reasonably priced in fact they were CHEAPER than a local Audi 'Specialist'. I have to agree with the MOT from Audi. I've just booked mine in for one with Audi for the fixed price of £49 and they told me if anything goes wrong within the year, with anything they have tested, they will replace it free of charge.

I spent 7 months looking for a decent 2.0TFSi S line with Sat Nav/right colour combo, before I found mine. Never mind one with Quattro! The extras were so expensive new that it's very hard to find a decent specc'd one.

WOW! :)

I thought Audi dealers don't score well with JDPowers survey?

Its always Lexus no.1
And Skoda is doing well too.
But Audi way below - am I missing something here?

Audi have bent over backwards to help me with my problem with my A4. They even gave me a brand spanking new A6 S line Avant to run for a month whilst they sort mine out. I got a bill for nearly £6000 and without me even asking they offered to contribute and left me with a bill for £255!!!! And the time before that, they fixed my car for free (the repair should have cost £370!). The even pay for a taxi to take me anywhere if I drop my car off, and always fully clean it and valet it for free. They have always managed to make me feel special. Can't fault them at all!
