will this work on my car

May only be good for generic fault codes, buy vcds genuine cable if you want to do it properly.

I have an app on my iphone that apparently works with one off these

Think its called logworks by innovate motorsports !!

problem is the A4 of your era isn't obd2 compat, so it depends on the protocols on the device if it will talk or not

I couldn't get mine to do anything, when I asked on here the general consensus was that it wouldn't.

Its specific VAG protocol. You may get a few functions but doubtful, I couldn't. Any DBW a4 and B6's will work with it FWIW

It does say can obd2 and eobd ??

also says kwp2000 i dont see why it shouldnt work but id stick with whats best £10 lead and free software !!!

I'm running the torque app and a cheapie BT dingle on mine. Unfortunately the iPhone doesn't support serial bluetooth so has to use a wifi variant. I'm DBW and it shows a lot of info, admittedly some things still missing.

DBC cars only support KWP1281 afaik, KWP2000 is only supported on DBW ECU's

Confused.com lol

Even more confused. Com is that keyword 2000 actually becomes an ISO protocol to handle the comms, ISO9141 with a 5b initialization at a 10.4k baud rate if memory serves... :D older vw had a native protocol that wasn't obd compliant and didn't meet emissions legislation, hence the change to KWP2000
