A few exciting RS related comments in evo this month:

"Think of the TTRS Plus as a junior Lamborghini Gallardo and you wouldn't be far wrong" high praise indeed from Harry Metcalfe. They still only rate the TTRS Plus as 4/5 stars though saying it's + Shockingly fast cross-country but - Shockingly expensive for an Audi TT (and that a Cayman is perceived more as the 50K car). If I didn't need the practicality of the RS3 this is the car I'd have bought.

"the Eagle F1s allow the car to move around much more freely and it now feels much more nimble down tight, bumpy B-roads. Hurrah!" the Audi RS4 long termer has been transformed by adding a set of Eagle F1s, high praise for these tyres. A set of these or the Michelin Pilot Super Sports is the best way to get more from your RS.

"The M135i felt oddly unpredictable in the way it would break away and was even trickier to gather up" Turns out their long term BMW M135i is a bit of handful on a wet track (who'd ever have guessed that!) even in the hands of evos experienced racers. As the headline says "The Honeymoon is over" for the M135i. Lucky we live in a country where it doesn't rain much them...oh wait... I'll take quattro and all flawless all weather pace any day. The RS3 was peerless on a wet track.

Elsewhere the A45 AMG is causing a lot of chatter with it's 4.1s 0-60 and 12.6s standing 1/4 times. What amazes me is the RS3 seems to have been forgotten in many of the comparisons with most talk of how it compares to the M135i. In reality the AMG will crush the M135i on road and track but the journo's will still say they love the BMW because it's RWD and has a manual box, until they take it on to a wet track of course. The other comparison being made is with the Scooby Cosworth STI - 400bhp and cost £50k when new and universally slated as a bit of a duffer. Even with 400bhp the Scooby is slower than the AMG and once again forgotten RS3. Neither would know which way a lightly tuned 400bhp RS3 had gone. When the group tests start I hope the RS3 is wearing some decent F1 or PSS rubber to make the comparisons fair.

Hi Mark,

Could you suggest them to make sure they include the RS3 on MPSS? You could even suggest adding the 1M too as a "how the oldies compare to the new generation, blah blah blah" ;)

I'd write to them asking why the neglect to mention the RS3,also mention you write articles for magazines as well

Good idea Stephane, I will suggest it! You never know. I'll offer them my car to use if they can't get one from Audi!

I'm guessing they are holding material back for the group tests but all the same the lack of mention for the RS3 - which they like rather than love (quattro and paddles will never get their full approval) - is a mystery.

Thanks for the confidence in my writing but the evo boys are imo the best in the business, along with Mr Harris and his videos, I'd like to be that good!!

Yep they are very good at it,some journo's have cars they hate I guess

OUR wonderful Audi RS3 is not currently available NEW, which is probably why Mercedes Benz waited so long to introduce this beastie: AND that says it all for me… :o.k:

NO offence to Mrs. MBK intended, each to their own… but this 2.5 litre, 5-pot Audi unit, combined with the 7-speed DSG; is most probably the BEST power-train I've ever been fortunate to experience for overall road use!

As for the 'ORIGINAL' RS3 brakes, I just love 'em!
:salute:

I agree with John the RS3 is the complete, all weather, practical performance package. Every other comparison from £25k to £60K comes with some sort of compromise in my view. The TTRS Plus being compared to a junior Gallardo says everything about the performance on offer.

The good news with this AMG is it keeps Audi on their toes to improve the next RS3! My Mrs really liked the C63 AMG it was a close run thing, the C63 was just a bit too bling for us and shockingly behaved in the wet. I won't complain too much if it's what she does buy and she seems pretty set on it.

If anyone out there is waiting for a mint, one-off Cornflower blue, low-mileage RS3, to come onto the market before 2021... :tumble:
