A few exciting RS related comments in evo this month:
"Think of the TTRS Plus as a junior Lamborghini Gallardo and you wouldn't be far wrong" high praise indeed from Harry Metcalfe. They still only rate the TTRS Plus as 4/5 stars though saying it's + Shockingly fast cross-country but - Shockingly expensive for an Audi TT (and that a Cayman is perceived more as the 50K car). If I didn't need the practicality of the RS3 this is the car I'd have bought.
"the Eagle F1s allow the car to move around much more freely and it now feels much more nimble down tight, bumpy B-roads. Hurrah!" the Audi RS4 long termer has been transformed by adding a set of Eagle F1s, high praise for these tyres. A set of these or the Michelin Pilot Super Sports is the best way to get more from your RS.
"The M135i felt oddly unpredictable in the way it would break away and was even trickier to gather up" Turns out their long term BMW M135i is a bit of handful on a wet track (who'd ever have guessed that!) even in the hands of evos experienced racers. As the headline says "The Honeymoon is over" for the M135i. Lucky we live in a country where it doesn't rain much them...oh wait... I'll take quattro and all flawless all weather pace any day. The RS3 was peerless on a wet track.
Elsewhere the A45 AMG is causing a lot of chatter with it's 4.1s 0-60 and 12.6s standing 1/4 times. What amazes me is the RS3 seems to have been forgotten in many of the comparisons with most talk of how it compares to the M135i. In reality the AMG will crush the M135i on road and track but the journo's will still say they love the BMW because it's RWD and has a manual box, until they take it on to a wet track of course. The other comparison being made is with the Scooby Cosworth STI - 400bhp and cost £50k when new and universally slated as a bit of a duffer. Even with 400bhp the Scooby is slower than the AMG and once again forgotten RS3. Neither would know which way a lightly tuned 400bhp RS3 had gone. When the group tests start I hope the RS3 is wearing some decent F1 or PSS rubber to make the comparisons fair.
