before i start weight saving my S3 my car has a sunroof, i didnt buy it with the intention of stripping it out but if im going that route i need to delete the sunroof.

i know of a company thats done it to a mates porsche - no idea on the cost.

id rather not just pop rivet a metal skin over the hole - still needs to look decent.

any ideas that dont involve totally replacing the roof skin, if i were to do that it might aswell be in carbon fibre (i was going to do that to my mk2 bam golf as there was a company that did them for about £600)

I would remove the glass and motor then silicone a piece of polycarbonate in the hole. Skylight FTW

When will people stop using delete in the wrong context because it sounds better :(

Wow, what a thunderous piece you are.

Thread derail engaged.

Delete = computer function associated with files or text.
remove = taking your sunroof out of your car.

just saying. Anywho I'd get some aluminium speed tape and just tape it up. cheap + hecktic chrome racer-boy look effect.

2 birds 1 stone.

What he said.

What I find laughable about this is that you know of two companies who could do the work professionally, but have posted on here to a bunch of amateurs who will all tell you to bodge it before picking up the phone and speaking to them.

Ring up the companies that you know can do the work, and talk to them. They are professionals, we are not.

It is that simple.

I must warn you though, **** with the bull and you get the horns. Gobbing off at me will not be a fun experience for you, because I am filled with common sense and an analytic ability to match a NASA scientist.

dictionary meaning of the word delete - to remove or cross out - exactly what im doing removing it

either way - i think everyone knows what i am asking

Two seconds, I have got a life to go and live. I will be back in half an hour to review your response.

Love Scullies. Xxx

never said either

you managed to reply before I did, I should of used the quote option.

back to you car, I think you going to need a fabricator to sort it out, or a new roof panel. Sounds like an expensive weight saving cost, you can think of it as paying for liposuction for you car

Jardo is right here, your not exactly deleting it, rather replacing it with something else. Either way again just call those companies you have in mind and get some quotes. Why are you getting rid of it though? Soley for weight loss? I'd cut a bigger hole and pop a nice moonroof in, sod the weight, just get more power! :)

agreed the cost could well be too high to save 10-15kgs - even if it is up high.

its one of those if i start to weight save things it just runs away with you - just seemed like an easy amount of weight to lose without thinking of the actual cost of doing so (and doing properly)

Are you planning on a track car?

i never even planned to buy the actual car....

a mate called me up and offered it to me in the morning, brought it up to me and i bought it in the afternoon, i only really bought it for the engine to put into a Lotus Elise, i break cars all the time so knew i could sell the rest of it and effectively get what i needed for free, but it needs a better turbo so i thought of putting that on and running the car for a while, then im thinking of saving some weight and its all gone from there, if i was planning a track car S3 i would never of bought one with a sunroof. Hence its a bit of a compromised car if i did one, but its what i have now so i either go ahead or just enjoy it for a while.

Im looking to put the Gtx2867 turbo on - T3 fitment as i have the manifold and external waste gate for that fitment.

Aiming for 400hp - need to get back in touch with Bill @B5

Best bet for 400bhp is a Black Widow TTRS K04 Hybrid using a TFSI unit.

Dan is currently developing one on Prawns track car; it could have the potential for K04 spool up with GT30 power.By the time you have fitted rods and done all the supporting chassis modifications it should be nearing its tested and ready to go stage.

from what i have read on here the tfsi K04 downpipe is very tight on the haldex cars.

My car already has forged section rods and 550cc genesis injectors, just need an inline pump and 4bar for

I cant be too difficult or expensive to have a fiberglass blank made for the sunroof. It could look neat, and would allow easyish swaps between sunroof and blank.

Im fond of the idea anyway

theres a guy where my unit is that is a fibreglass guy (ex F1 back in the day) ill ask him

good idea

hmmm, thats what i was trying to avoid anything bonded or riveted to the roof.

Couldn't agree more, I hate the the use of the word delete in this kind of context, it drives me insane!

The dictionary I looked at added..."something written or printed".

Back on topic, before you have a hissy fit at me too, I kindof liked the idea of a clear perspex jobbie, like a mini glass roof. It'd be just like those nice new modern cars have.

If your still thinking of putting the engine in an elise is it really worth your time, money and effort?

I would just use the money you could spend on this idea and make the engine even better or add nos for ****s n giggles, just my opinion.

All sed though a real carbon roof would look good but then i'd want a bonnet, tailgate and wings to match lol.

why not just remove the M&E & leave the glass where it it, cant weight much more then 4kg for the unit alone.

its the glass and frame that weighs the most, the motor is not alot on its own.

just remove it and leave it out!
sorted, cannot get lighter than a whole load of hole! :undwech:
also, every hole is a goal......

Sunroof out, metal panel welded in place. DONE!

Failing that get one of these companies you speak of to do it properly.
