Evening all :)

Had the S3 a couple of weeks now and loving it!

I ordered audi ami/USB cable 4f0051510p blue collar, listed on audi site for the s3 2009>, my car is my2010 and got the genuine cables new for £18 instead of £50+ i lthought bargain but received today, plugged in and nothing.

Ami source lit orange just says please wait... And nothing.

Take it I have wrong cable or there is a problem with my Ami?

I then fired her up to see if it made a difference and being the first time I have started without music playing I noticed a very faint tap from the engine/gearbox which was heard less with clutch depressed, I can only describe as quiet flywheel chatter.

Engine was cold and searching suggests release bearing/input shaft however being a very quiet noise I wondered if this is a common characteristic of the car rather than a fault?

I had similar noise on my previous Astra vxr but input shaft/release bearing were fine, had faint whine in 6th though and turned out to be common bearing issue.

Other thing I've noticed is going over bumps or bumpy roads there is a squish coming from front shocks as they absorb the bump, I get it from my caddy van and have heard others which do the same so know it's normal on them but unsure if it is normal for the audi also?

Only audible with windows down but rear doesn't seem to do it. Searches came back as bushes need replacing but I can't see how the bushes would affect the shock squishy noise which it seems to be.

Going to try some wd40 and see if I can narrow it down!

Hopefully these are all characteristics of the car and being new to me I am just over analysing everything little noise!!

Looking to take to Mrc tuning soon for health check, milltek, filter and map and want to make sure everything is sound and if not spend money on that rather than spending money on toys first!

Any advice greatly appreciated :)

The cable is listed to work with the 8P so that shouldn't be the problem, which apple device are you plugging into it?

Thanks for the reply, I was trying with 4th gen iPod touch not even getting a charge. I have also tried my IPad and mobile through USB and nothing happening.

The day I picked her up whilst learning all the functions of the rnse I noticed that the Ami was lit orange and said initialising although nothing was attached and I am getting the same now, once device is plugged in I select the Ami and it says please wait... That's as far as it ever gets.

Have been researching Ami problems and seen that it may require an update but the only updates I have found date before 2010 when the car was built so I don't think that will solve my issue!

As for the other concerns I had I think they are just down to new car paranoia :)

Update unlikely, what's the rns-e firmware version under the Car menu?

Could very well be the cable itself, have you got an iphone to test with, friends, family member etc?

Got this from the menu;

SW - 0150 HW - h03.

Tried resetting the Rnse by holding power button but as soon as switched back on the Ami still lights up orange with initialising next to it even without a cable plugged in!

Would Vcds shed any light on the situation?

No iPhones between my family and friends apart from iPhone 5 which I'm sure I read are not compatible with Ami.

Happy to buy another cable but don't want to fork out for another to find the Ami is faulty!

Thanks for the help :)

Well for sure the firmware is few years out of date as we're on 0220 now & yes ami works with I5 with the lightning adapter.

VCDS may show an error yes, but ideally testing with a cable for ami 1st, maybe worth a go & another iphone/ipod to eliminate the obvious.

Doesn't it have warranty from seller or private purchase?

Right got a call for phone upgrade today so iPhone 5 being delivered tomorrow but I guess it will be similar software to 4gen iPod touch so won't connect if software on the ami is the problem nor if its the cable.

I take it the only way to update to 0220 on the Ami is a trip to audi? Given the crap with Oxford Audi I will have to go further afield lol.

Searched high and low seems USB stick works but says update 2008 on the audi.de site plus I don't have USB stick. The other option i saw was the 2013 map disk which I don't plan to buy as the 2010 version works fine!

Need to find someone with an a3 ami lead around Oxfordshire ideally to eliminate cable before I faff about with software.

Warranty wise will give the seller a bell about it but would prefer to avoid the 4 hour trek if I can resolve myself somehow!

The battle continues, probably easier to buy a milltek and boycott the iPod for the exhaust note :)

Thanks again for your input ;)

No joy with the iPhone5, also got another cable and same initialising... Crap!!

Narrows it to the Ami unit or software tried contacting Audi regarding update but just get ignored.

Going to try removing ami unit see if anything looks dodgy and try to get it hooked up to vcds.

How much do you sell the vcds kit for NHN?

I can always come out & try & fix it for you, I have ami kits with me to swap if need be & test along with anything else that would affect it, I'm confident I could resolve it for you, PM if interested.
