Hello!

If i leave my car for about 2 days, it'ss hard to get it to start.
I have to hold the key for about 15 secs, then it starts. I also get a message in the display stating: low oil pressure.(this goes away when the engine starts),it also generates alot of exhaust. my local audi garage has run diagnostics on, and they claim the starter isn't doing enough rpm(230), it's supposed to do 280?

When it runs idle, it sounds like the engine is not running propperly, if i push the accelerator once, everything is fine.
The car runs just fine.

Any ideas?

Car: Audi a3, 2005 mod 2.0 tdi quattro (8P)

Does is start ok when hot? Are the glow plugs operating? Does it make a difference if you prime the fuel pump by turning ignition on a few times before cranking? does it make any difference if you let the plug glow for 5-10 seconds before trying to crank?

When shutting the engine off does it judder with the clutch pedal up or down?

Welcome to the site.

Well starter for sure could be 1 issue here, aswell as battery, oil pressure warning maybe related to battery being low as such from cranking, hence why when charging again it clears, could also check cam timing is correct, as mine was of by a fair bit from the cretin garage that sold me the car, who did a shoddy cambelt job, so cold starts were not the best & took a minute for the timing to sort itself out apparently allowing me to pull away, ran perfectly during the day afterwards, cambelt change by a professional sorted that out 100%.

Multiple things to check & wouldn't hurt for starter/battery replacement on a 8 year old car.

When the engine is hot, it starts on the first try.
The glow plugs we¨re replaced in december.
I have tried to prime it before cranking it, same result, same with letting it glow for 5-10 sec.
I also bought a new battery in march(the starting problems we¨re fixed for a week, then it came back) bad alternator?

The engine acts the same way wether i hold the clutch in or leave it when shutting it down, it does rattle a bit.

The newest thing with the car, is that when it¨s 15 degres celcius ++ the intercooler runs like crazy (if i turn of the aircon, it doesn¨t:S)

Thats not the intercooler its the aircon fan, its a sign that it needs regassing i believe.

ok, is the aircon fan inside the intercooler then? because the sounds comes from the spot where the intercooler is, and it sounds like a boeing 747 at takeoff.. ill try an regassing and we will see!

Thx for fast and good answers so far, really apreciate it

Yea mine has just started doing the same thing...plus the fan turns off once you hit econ/turn off blowers.

Year of car?

How olds the battery?

Maybe needs a new starter.

Has it had any work in the last 6 months?

Need to check a number of above to see if it helps.
