Just one question tho, is it supposed to be a smooth finish?
Mines has a light textured finish to it which on the grill looks good but I was expecting a smooth finish. When I was spraying you could almost see blobs of paint flowing instead of a mist, I tried a conventional aerosol tip and varied the distance but it came out just the same. I had considered doing my window surrounds in it but not if it's not going to be smooth.
The stars on your number plate reminds me of the stars on old porn mag.
Did you use a new fresh can or was it a old one that you used before?
I did my window rubbers with a rattle can and it came out very smooth, most people can't tell its dip but I did loads of thin coats and also did a couple of sprays away from the car to clean the nozzle between coats.
I did my grill with it too, its lasted nearly a year and nearly 14,000 miles. I tried to do my surrounds with it but couldn't take the masking tape off without pulling the whole lot off, ended up wrapping the surrounds instead.
did you wait for the dip to dry before peeling?
Try it while the dip is still a bit tacky and not fully dry.

All of the info I have read on this stuff it doesn't give it a perfectly smooth finish so I guess it's normal!
Plastidip.co.uk is where I get mine from when they got it i in stock, which is not very often.
A smooth finish on plasti dip is possible but it depends on your application. Rattle can or sprayer.
Every time I've used plastidip it gave a slight textured finish, I think they sell a "glossifier" which gives a smoother finish on top of the regular plastidip
Glossifier is their gloss coating to give the dip a gloss shiny look and remove the matt.
The glossifier can be smooth or textured depending on your application again.
Did you buy a matte Plastidip? I did and mine looks exactly the same but that is the result i wanted. As above, i'm sure some lacquer or glossifier will sort it!
All plasti dip is matt at the moment, only way to make it glossy is to use the glossifier.
Don't use normal paint lacquer, I tried it on a grill and it went a little funny.
Glossifier wont sort out a textured finish, it might enhance it.
I have been farting about with ye old PD for a few weeks now. I can't get anything but a slight texture after spraying using the black standard version. If you use thinners on a finished surface and you are careful with it, you can achieve a very smooth surface by gently going over the surface with your rubber gloved finger, dampening the surface . Am not convinced that it's a lasting solution to my front grill, bumpers etc however, it is a low cost option and I love the idea that if you don't like it you can just peel it off without any hassle. Also it's a good solution to checking out how your car will look without the costly spray paint route.
I would go carefull with the glove to try and smooth it, you might over do it and generate low spots.
But its removeable, so who cares. :thumbsup:
A trick I heard is to use a paint roller with some thinners on it and slide that over it to flatten and smooth.
I've not attempted this yet.
