Traveling home today on a back road and ran into a pothole that gave me a flat instantly swapped it over for my space saver as the rim of the alloy had cut through the bead if that wasn't bad enough it has also cut done the same damage to the rear passenger tyre now I need 2 225/40/18 s the front is probably covered under a 1000 miles has anyone claimed from the local council and been successful ?

Report the pothole 1st under another name or ask a friend, take some pics & then ring them to report it again as some councils are ****'s about having someone report it initially before they will accept a claim.

They are terrible round my area, just a few weeks after I got mine I had to replace a tyre and rear spring. All the best with the claim, none of mine worked!

Check out BBC Watchdog programme a few weeks ago. Dude managed to make claim for his son's BMW.

I have successfully claimed going back 10 years ago, take picture of the hole, take a ruler with you, take a picture of the wheel and blah blah blah

I tried a few years back,i was on my way to vw festival and hit a pothole.i took photo's,measurements etc.
i made a claim with emailed pictures, went on for weeks.....the women who was dealing with my claim ruled that they wouldn't be paying out as the pothole was 'repaired' in a reasonable time! I was livid!!!!!
I told her i would be taking advice on this matter and she replied "you can do what you feel neccessary but you wont win"!
If i was face to face with her i would have ripped her head off!

I have no time for councils/politicians anymore.........they are a shower of **** all ******* in the same pot!

I claimed a couple of years back, buckled an alloy in 2 places and blew up tyre on an astravan.

I wanted the tyre tread to be the same either side so I claimed for a new alloy and two new tyres for the front, totaling £300 they didn't even quibble about the other tyre.

Take photos of the damage, the pothole, depth, location and get receipts for repair. If the pothole has white lines around you will win without dispute as it has been acknowledged but not repaired. If there are no white lines you can request reviews of that road from the council under the freedom of information act as stated on watchdog the other week and if the pothole was acknowledged in the road review but not repaired then again you win.

If neither of the above apply you it becomes a little more complicated for them to admit liability and you could stand to lose, you could report it first then claim but not sure if they would contest dates etc, Usually their rule is if they weren't aware of it previous to the complaint then they won't accept liability for the damage.

On your council website you should get the details for the local highway company.

Best thing to do is be persistent, I hope you get it sorted!

take photos and photos with a tape measure and report to council ive done it 3 years ago I paid up for a new alloy and 2 new tyres . took 6 months

Just back from kwick fit £350 pounds lighter however on the receipt reason for replacement stated as impact damage I have photos and my damaged tyres.

fingers crossed I will get £££ back road tax due soon at £260 a year lol.

round our way there are plenty marked in yellow paint, but they take weeks or somtimes months to repair. Worth noting down another location , some of our potholes cant be avoided and its a case of crawling through them. If i ever damaged a tyre id just go use the nearest marked pothole and report it, but generally i avoid claiming anything like this where it can be helped. I have no time for the government.

you will need to keep the damaged items

Has anyone replaced the front passenger side rear wishbone bush as I think this is also damaged due to the pot hole what next eh.

Reported the pot hole today and they are sending a claim form out I called them at 9 and then got a call at 11:30 from the guy sent out to inspect it to find it had been filled at 8:30 this morning sounds suspicious to me.

Funny thing was when he phoned I was working five mins from the pot hole he said he couldn't see it so I met him at the site walked up to it and it was filled however when I showed him the photo of it on the previous day he couldn't see it due to the bright sun so he opened the back doors of his van to get some shade and it had about ten empty buckets of cold tar repair , I quizzed him on the fact it had been conveniently repaired but after seeing the photo he called round his colleagues to see who had done it or was he acting but he said one of the repaired it at the back of 8 I passed it at 8:20 no sight of any vans .

as long as you have pics you will win

I recently won my claim! Make sure you REPORT the hole first as a 'responsable driver', if the hole is not filled in 7 working days, make your case. (The council cannot be held responsable for something they didn't know about!).

My compensation was only for £76, but its taken me 6 months to finally recieve the cheque (i sold my car the same month!), and around 4 emails a month chasing, chasing AND chasing up my case, but they had no other option but to accept it, as i had pictures and reciepts.

FIGHT THE POWA. its worth it.
JJ.
