Hi SJW. Well no is the short answer! The car was specced and afterwards my broker was informed of the free sat when he placed the order (though we now know it wasn't officially ordered with audi and then it was publicised in brochures etc. I understand now why I am amongst the first with a cod engine. That actually means from order to collection was less than 3 months, the first few months were dead months as the 'order' must have just been sat around until Audi decided to open the gates (AFTER the deadline)
 
You spec & order a vehicle in January as far as you are concerned. They took the order from you. How Audi decide to process this based on engine availability should not penalise you. If your dealer said the sat nav is being thrown in for free for ordering before the end of Feb and this was conveyed to you, they should honour it. Had any money exchanged hands between you and Audi in January leading up to the end of Feb? Did money exchange hands in March??? If money exchanged hands in Jan this is the start of the transaction. Audi should have made clear (and to cover themselves) that the free sat nav will not apply if you want Cod. Simple as that. I would push the dealer for retro fitting and suffering the cost. They can sort out with Audi UK. If they better communicate they will avoid such situations.
 
I've got a COD on order, so I'll also be really interested to know what you think of your engine once you've had a chance to drive it a bit more.

With the Sat Nav, I think it was an offer to try to encourage people to order before there were any Sportbacks in showrooms for them to look at. They turned up in showrooms middle of March, so I think that's why the offer ended end of Feb. It's just coincidence that the COD engine came available to order just after that.

I can't quite remember now, but I didn't think they'd announced the price for the COD until it was available to order in March. Did you know the price when you ordered? I think your query would have to be with the dealer or broker-whichever took your deposit. Audi themselves weren't accepting orders for that engine, so it's not really their fault if a broker or dealer has taken a deposit on the basis that they'll order the car when they can. Audi wouldn't have known about your order, and there were no brochures listing the COD engine together with free Nav.

If the broker took your deposit and said you were getting Nav, then I'd think you'd have a good case for getting them to pay for it.
 
Not to rub salt in :) but I ordered mine mid feb and got a built date. Then in mid march changed the order to include COD. I.e you could have done the same and got free ShatNav aaaand COD.

Anyway, if you have an iPhone get the Waze app. Better than audi's offering and it's free.

Nice one - shame the dealer/broker didn't steer Moonlight in that way. I had settled on the 2tdi so my order was straightforward.
 
whaaaaaaaaaaat!..lol yeah that does rub salt in...in fact it rubs it in with a foot!...I was that overjoyed yesterday that I started to let it go....but this morning I 've been on to the broker again....he's back on with the dealer...I've emailed Audi complaints dept....I'm not sure where the responsibility lies but it aint with me!...surely its between the dealer and Audi?...I think my broker was misinformed also...

I'll look at waze......saying that I don't really need it lol....just wanted it

Anyway I'll keep you posted..I'll start another countdown! lol.....as it happens I need to pop back to the dealer to pick up a blue cable....I wonder if it fits around his neck!lol
 
Yes, definitely kick up a fuss about it. The confusion will be between your broker and your dealer. You say you placed the order with the Broker in January, but it's likely that one of two things happened:

1) The broker didn't place the order with the dealer until March (when the COD became available and the Sat Nav offer had ended)
2) The broker placed the order with the dealer in Jan, but the dealer didn't submit the order to Audi until March.

The dealers have to place an order in the build programme, and this is then accepted by Audi a few weeks after placing it. Audi won't accept orders for engines / cars that aren't available yet, but this doesn't stop dealers taking 'orders' and just submitting them when possible.

Who's at fault will depend on whether it was scenario 1 or 2, but it certainly wasn't you. Audi UK may be unwilling to assist in this, unless it's purely out of good will. Good luck, but don't give up until you've at least got a contribution towards having it retro-fitted.
 
Looks like option 2.....I have spoken again with the broker who is a bit of an 'old school' type chap...he had documented everything....ordered 25th Jan...and an official order was accepted a week later...with notes of 'free sat nav upgrade' attached to it.

He fought my/his corner and won!.....sd card ordered today...car being collected and 'fitted' next week...free...as intended...I can now rest easy.....(now whistling)

All is well again in the world.

I'd like to thank...everyone for the support that gave me the determination to carry it forward...the back room staff...my wife for standing by me..........lol ( I don't have a wife but that's the usual speech)

Wow, great result Moonlight. You be dancing in the moonlight real soon, its good that you will have the new car grin back. What we need now is a new countdown thread. Wonder who is next? :) x

Good stuff - glad it's worked out for you. And good that nav is just a software upgrade now, so they won't actually need to mess around with the car!

Was there a price released for the cylinder on demand when you ordered (25th Jan)? Or did you order with price to be advised later? I was waiting ages for the COD to be released before I ordered it in March.

Either way it sounds like the dealer messed up by accepting an order for something they couldn't order from the factory for a couple more months, but promising you a time-limited special offer. Glad they've made good!

My dealer has said the same thing - he'll follow me to the fuel station to fill it up (He agreed a full tank as part of my deal - worth asking about for anyone ordering). I prefer it this way - Better to think that you'll be the first to properly drive it rather than have some salesman razz your new car around to the fuel station before you arrive!

ha not yet...have had couple of brief moments which widened the grin...just been stuck in traffic for 2 hours!...left me with more questions over the MMI!....shuffle and artwork to look at!

errr no! lol...I took a gamble on the increase in price!..I've just collected the blue cable from them....they confirmed it will be early next week and kinda gave me the impression they were blameless....it matters not now!

What about ringing the dealer ahead of time (I'm ringing mine tomorrow) to make sure you get the right colour MMI cable?

its been a long countdown thread Mark, think we started it on 27th june, has been fun, im getting excited to see the new car as much as you are to collect it. I dont think i be able to sleep with all the collections going on:) x
